The Best PSP Battery To Buy In 2019

Ойындар

In 2019 we don't have many PSP batteries to choose from, so here's the breakdown.
Edit: it looks like a few people have bought the old-stock "Sony" battery that I recommended and it's starting to look like it's fake. The play time is reported to be around 1.5 hours.
Spoiler: Buy KMD or "New" old-stock (likely not) Sony batteries.
(likely not) Sony is here: www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-Sony-PlayStation-Portable-PSP-2001-3001-PSP-S110-Rechargeable-1200mAh/113492849345?hash=item1a6cb372c1:g:zcgAAOSwBZBcI~2S and here: www.ebay.com/itm/New-3-6V-1800mah-Rechargeable-Battery-for-Sony-PSP-110-PSP-1001-PSP-1000-FAT-US/123564686824?hash=item1cc5077de8:g:1IgAAOSwukZcI~yi

    Yep. Bought an "Insten" pack in 2018. Barely put 40 hours on the PSP after installing it and it took a shit. PSP doesn't even detect it anymore. Amazon is recommending it as #1 for some reason. Don't waste your money.

    Btw, there’s no such thing as a battery that’s never been charged. Batteries are always charged at the factory before being shipped. And they CAN swell and explode even if they’ve never been used. I have a PSP 3000 that I never opened (still factory sealed). I was saving it. So I know for certain that it was never used. But after watching a few swollen PSP battery videos, I got nervous and opened it just now to check. I was devastated to find the brand new, never used battery puffed up like a balloon. 😭 Thankfully, Sony packages them with the battery separate, NOT installed, so my PSP was not harmed (thank goodness). However, Nintendo ships their handhelds with batteries inside them, so if anyone has limited edition GBA SPs or 3DS’s, you might want to inspect them and remove the battery if you want to protect your investment.

    Thanks for sharing. Yeah, the Sony "Stamina" one you showed here works great for me. I moved to Moscow, Russia from the States last year and it's the same battery that I see available here in most shops, same packaging and everything and priced for $8.00. I have two of them, but plan to grab a few more while they're still available.

    So to add on to this comment after 1 year. When I got my psp from japan it came with a Insten battery in which It died when I stoped charging my psp for like maybe 2 months. And now the battery the oem psp 3000 battery as he shows died on me. It could of died from old cells or never being used and the oem battery he claims as oem died on me on the 10th day of owning it. For those out there do not take my word your battery could work it or not but buying a psp battery in 2021 is a gamble. So As he warns you and I warn you too even some oem batteries don’t work. So don’t think just because its oem it works like new it doesn’t not all of the time

    Folks, Cameron sino is the way forward! I bought a battery a few days ago and I’m speechless! 4:50 of game time on my first charge. For a 1200mah battery, that’s bloody impressive. My variables; no umd use, full volume, wlan off, medium brightness, and playing a game download of the psn store. The battery I bought was made in 2014, but they are still producing them to date, check them out people. I’d rate it a 4.75/5. The only issue with the battery is it is a mm or two too wide. My battery door is ever so slightly raised. You can hardly see it, but you can definitely feel it ever so slightly. It won’t bother most people, but I have really bad ocd, and even then I’d rate this battery so high, because after all, buying a battery in 2020 is so difficult and the cameron sino battery performs so well. I actually bought a Sony stamina pack prior. I paid £24 ($30) for it. It was a completely legit import which was fully sealed and needed scissors to open, unlike the fake in this video. Unfortunately as with any old battery, I was playing the lottery, and unfortunately I lost, it wouldn’t boot, nor would it charge.

    My PSP-1000 still has the original battery from ~2005-2006, still has good battery life and holds charge well, no signs of bloating or wear, but it's getting old, so I bought a KMD battery before I watched this video and the contacts push themselves out and don't make contact, and then I have to open up the battery and push them back down while putting the battery back in. This could be an isolated incident, but the construction is cheap and doesn't hold up too well. I'd steer clear of KMD as well.

    Just modded my best friends co-workers 1001 PSP (the look on his face when he fired up Sunset Riders on the snes emulator). He said the PSP had been gathering dust under his bed for years. I said we can fix that. In retrospect I feel the intro to the 6 million dollar man tv show, "gentleman, we can rebuild him." But I digress. He's so pumped he's going to buy another PSP off my friend. I want to make sure I get a solid battery as those emulators use up a little more overhead than applications native to the platform. Thanks for the review.

    To keep li-ion batteries from doing that you want to store them around 40 percent full. Keeping them fully charged or letting them drop to zero will often ruin them. You also lose a charge over time. So you have to turn them on every few months and charge them a bit.

Next time I turned it on it was about 5% battery. Could it have broken the battery? Ok so after over a year I can say this: KMD batteries do not last half as long as they advertize. The better batteries still are the original PsP ones. But they arent sold anywhere. And those few that still work are really annoiyng to use. I have a classic 1200 mha for the PsP 2000 and it lasts longer than the KMD even after a decade of use. BUT, it wastes energy even when not in use. Because I only pick the PSP up once every 2 months or so, I have to constanlty charge it. The only thing that seems to work for the longitevity of a PSP nowadays is the famed battery mod. But only a few can pull that off.

  • @tacosmexicanstyle7846

    @tacosmexicanstyle7846

    Yes! Also you can tell the fake ones as they are advertising batteries above 1800mAh - for clarity, you will never ever see a legit PSP battery above this amount because they physically will not fit inside the unit if they hold as much as they say they do. The actual battery cells will have significantly less than advertised. The PSP 1000 used 1800s and the 2000-3000s used 1200s, which is why the 1000s batteries were bigger. If you want more power the battery has to get bigger!

  • @TrackSol

    @TrackSol

    Several year later but you are right to a point. Yes the PSP 1000 battery is larger than the 2000/3000, but the official Sony STAMINA 2200 mAH battery for the PSP 1000 was physically the same size as the stock 1800 mAh.

    You actually don't want ION batteries to go to zero. They can be ruined. So if an old battery has never been open, the natural discharge could ruin it. That's why batteries based on this tech needs to have a storage charge and you have to recharge it to that voltage every few months to a year. Never store them at 100% or let them drop to 0%. Around 40% or 3.7 volts. Also storing them in a fridge, not freezer, can help them endure far far longer.

    Aight...so... where do I even begin... Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer batteries are supposed to be halfway charged while being stored. It is NOT GOOD to discharge them all the way to 2.4V or less. So, if your battery arrives dead, it has been stored the wrong way. Now, the reason why most of your batteries broke, probably is for that very reason: they are too discharged. When a battery is dangerously low on charge, the PSP will refuse to charge it up. Or/and the protection circuit inside the battery will do the same. You could precharge it with a lab power supply. You would have to charge the cell directly tho. Furthermore, if you still have your original battery, you could replace just the cells and keep the original protection circuit.

I can fully charge it and play games. it doesn't die while I'm playing games. I've just recently decided to use my psp game after it been just stored for so long 🙃 I haven't fully tested. because after I've grown-up to be an adult I just don't play games constantly as a did when I was younger 🤣 it just a big surprise my psp battery still good. I remembered longest I've ever used my psp within one day was maybe 10 hours one time when i was in high school marching band🤣

    Bro I just ordered mine and got here today. I was excited up until I put it inside the PSP and the cover is not closing.. It's a "new" swollen battery... no name. Just "Battery Pack" ... did you have issues with yours?

    I tried the Sony battery. The battery went shut down in 25% completely and never turn on. You think the battery is 100% but is only 75%. Never charge on a USB cord or it will broke the battery. I go for the KMD battery because it's made in USA not china

    Sadly, no. Nothing is as good as the original Sony batteries. I've heard of people using original Sony battery hardware and loading 3rd party batteries into them. They're rumored to work really well, but I have no firsthand experience with them.
