It is the best game ever
I think the forest is far from an ugly game. When my friends from the desert or from the Low Countries in Europe ask me what the forests around me look like, I always ask “have you played The forest?” They did such an amazing job portraying North American eastern coast forests. Of course I’m from Appalachia so some differences in terrain but, walking through the woods in this game is almost photorealistic at times, and it almost makes me feel at home, like a kid again exploring the creeks and woods around where I live. Until the shout of a local off in the distance reminds me I’m not alone…then that comforting cloak of the forest smothers you…

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. My friends and I would play in forests when I was growing up. I agree ! The sound from this game was amazing. The sound where you walk in the forest and hear the leaves crunchy is exactly like it is in the game, as well as the birds and other stuff.
The thing that makes the cannibals so captivating is the Ai. EndNight did an amazing job utilizing the Ai in interesting ways. They can get scared and run off the get more reinforcements, climb up trees to watch you from a distance, build strange effigies outside your base in an attempt to run you off, they can hit each other and more. Not to mention the fact that as you get further and further into the game, different types of cannibals come out that make your job a LOT harder. In SOTF apparently they have upped the Ai a ton. Cannot wait.

Yes truly amazing AI they flank you effectively while you are fighting one of them. Other games have tried this but none like The Forest, the AI runs from you and does a circle before attacking from the rear.
Highly underrated game, that doesn’t get the love it deserves. Can’t wait for the 2nd one to come out. 😄 The Forest is a simple, yet complicated game. That really immerses you in the game. It can be clunky, but is still overall a fantastic game. And hopefully the 2nd one can live up to its hype. 😅

Playing the forest alone is scary while me and my friend made it our goal to collect every animal head in the game and put it on that huge tree on the shore where we had our base. That's the The Forest co op experience in a nutshell and it's just as funny as it sounds

The whole scenary with the boat the atmospher just made me sick.. and like paralysed of going in the forest so I stopped playing. Came back a year ago and put 100h on the game and I still always skip the nights and go overprepared in caves.

@@gokudomatic It was an afterthought but a very good one. I played this alone and in multiplayer a lot and honestly, the multiplayer aspect is the only reason I still play it. The story is really good for singleplayer but playing it again is also such a great experience to do in multiplayer.

As long as your friends play the game properly and don’t want to just dop logs. I played for a long time and was building a big base over time just to have a friend join me and start glitching logs in. I deleted that would and have not played the forest since. It honestly killed the game for me. The fact that people have gone nuts on glitches I am honestly slowly losing interest in playing games with other people now. Let alone playing them at all.

Its on sale on ps4 right now. $8. Seems totally worth it right?
I never beat the game, but I did plat a lot of it. And I can tell you, it scared me more than most modern horror games. The first scare legit got me to close the game because of how unexpected it was. I was exploring the world and came across a cannibal base, and being the moron I was, I decided to take on the group, and, of course, got myself killed. Now I expected to spawn back at the plane, however, instead I spawned inside a cave. I had no torches or anything to light up the area, but I tried pressing on. I ended up falling into a pool of water, and that's when I heard it. Growls and screeching that got my heart racing. I couldn't find my way out, so I just quit the game and restarted the next time I played.

Just climb up the rope behind you when you spawn in the cave.
One of the most underrated games of all time.🌳
I'm sure it has already been said, but Timmy didn't kill anyone. He was able to gain control of himself which is why in the next game he'll probably still be continuing to deal with controlling the monster inside of him

the forest is pretty buggy and i wish the VR support was better but the game is really good still and the art direction especially in the caved and on the mutants designs are awesome and creepy as hell. The cave with the corpses praying to a painting of a black object gives me chills in VR

@#facts pretty scary until you realise you just wiggle your wrist violently and even the scariest of genetic monstrosities fall. Caves still make me shit bricks though.
The Forest is one of the best games I’ve ever played, and I mean that 100%
south, in the bottom of the map, there is a tiny island, next to the beach with the boat. you can connect the shores with a zipline, which also transports logs, so you can buld a completly cut off islandbase which is 100% protected against the big mutants from all sides. helped me a lot.

14:47 Timmy didnt kill anyone. Eric rushed to his aid and he stopped spazzing out
Everyday is a different experience. Playing with randoms is fun and different, sometimes you meet cool people and or trolls. Spear throwing, sword swinging, guns bows etc. duping. Awesome traps
Just finished the game, was pretty fun and scary. Definitely think SotF will be MUCH better. Didn't quite compare to Subnautica (I was playing this to scratch my survival crafting itch that I got from Subnautica years ago), but it's definitely a classic, like you said. I'm also looking forward to Forever Skies and am keeping tabs on Planet Crafter, both of which are more like Subnautica.
3:55 I nearly choked on my iced tea... The ease with which that cannibal runs through that goldfish pond into your base 🤣🤣🤣
this game was one of the best VR experiences i ever played. Highly recommended!
Here's a tip, if you build a TREEHOUSE, you basically safe lol Because they don't climb the treehouse lol They may smash your walls, and everything in your base, but they don't touch your treehouse, for some reason lol That's been my experience lol So if you come across too many mutants, just run back to your treehouse lol If they manage to follow you, they'll eventually go away.
At the end of the story, there's actually a choice that not many know about. You can also shut the whole thing down at a terminal to the right of the Big Red Button. Doing so will allow you to continue playing on the island if you wish to do so for whatever reason whereas using the device will end the play through.
I love this game but hell this game can be terrifying because you generally only hear the wind the grass and a couple other things but all of a sudden you hear RAAA! and then your being attacked and I often found myself not wanting to open the game no more just from know what's in the game and from fear that's what makes a wonderful game
In terms of Survival games that stand out, I think Planet Crafter is doing an interesting job. I am also a bit of a geography nerd, so seeing those sorts of things is neat to me, but having essentially shorter slices of different themes of gameplay over the course of a single game is a really neat idea to me
This is my favorite game right now. Played it years ago but I think I was just young and need that action (cod) now that I'm older (37) these chill rpg games are the best
This game is beyond fantastic. So so fun; and scary as hell. The cannibals are pretty freaky and cool, but the mutants.... First time i saw those, i was mind blown. Being a horror and survival game buff, this game quickly became one of my most favorite games ever. Especially knowing it came out in 2014. Yeah, the team that created this game is a team of champions. Lol
Never thought I'd check out a video game from a sponsored segment, but ngl that looks cool.
dude, I feel you in coop I'm too always running around screeming and no much help lol good to know I'm not the only one😂
Started playing this recently and absolutely love it! Can't wait for Sons of the forest!
14:45 He didn't kill anyone on the show. After it cuts to black, it immediately shows the player character caressing Timmy to stop his seizures.
I play the Forest VR on my old Oculus Quest 1 headset. Still lots of fun.
Can't wait for it's sequel
Playing the Forest with 2 of my close friends was the best experience I have ever had playing video games. The screams that us grown men let out in those caves, were screams of higher pitch than a bunch of little girls. THIS GAME IS A BLAST! I know a large portion of the fan base likes this game for the survival and building, and I do not like that because it paints the WRONG picture of this game. It is a horror game where you have to discover secrets, clues and lore. My favorite part of the game is getting lost in the caves and experiencing (what I can only describe as) blissful terror. And don't get me started on the story! The way this game tells the lore/ story through finding books, magazines, letters, images, videos, is SO FUN. I love getting little bits and pieces of the story as I play, and I especially loved the ending to the game and I love how big of a twist it is. This game makes you want to learn more about what is going on on this island and you want to keep exploring constantly because you never know when the next tidbit of information will appear. TLDR: IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THIS YET, GET A COUPLE FRIENDS AND PLAY!!!! Do not look anything up, do not build houses, do not watch youtube videos on this game. Just play it raw and experience the terror! I love this game and I cannot express how fun it is if you just play with the goal of exploration and finding Timmy!!! PS: If my comment makes you play the game, please come back and reply to me and let me know if you enjoyed it! One of my favorite games ever!

I am like you and although I did build a little, my main mission was finding weapons and Timmy. What I would do is build tons of small cabins (along side drying racks and fire pits) in strategic locations across the map so I can save. I never built any crazy bases because chopping down trees takes so damn long. I was like "I don't have time to collect 86 logs for a cabin, are you kidding me ?". I think people are using mods to build crazy bases, one dude on KZread even created a mansion. That would take so damn long and it would be tedious. Yeah, just build small cabins/drying racks/fire pits all throughout the map, find badass weapons, and then go save Timmy. That's what I did.
😂 3:50 "Stamina of a small toddler" Tell me you don't have kids without telling me you don't have kids
Fr I started out sleeping in caves while building houseboat, soon made my base in seashore near yacht since cannibals and mutants can't get through deep water
The fact that the chainsaw in this game is a vintage MC culloch 10-10 is amazing
The Forest is the only game where I feel like at home so much, knowing every small item's location, all cannibal spawning points & where they will walk. Counting days... At least I will have a game to play again for many years except for csgo siege and rust.
I found The Forest after having played Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero for a long time. Now I am getting close to the hours I played those two with The Forest. Really love the game :)
You really should consider making a podcast that would so so cool
Now we need, Why sons of the forest Will be great.

Great video 😊
I was 15 when the early access started...now I am 23...turning 24 in a few months...man time flies by. I will buy Sons Of The Forest right when it comes out. Cannot wait
I don't recommend building tree houses as one of the enemies can easily destroy them by running into the tree. You can also use his attacks for your purpose by leading him towards trees and using him as a personal lumber jack while blocking with a high-block weapon (turtle shell or rusty axe). Because of said enemy we usually built our bases on the goose lake, very far inside so the creepy mutants can't reach it.
Also is there a way to watch your playthrought?
How can you save a coop game ? My son and myself played and when he restarts the server all my stuff is gone and I can't start where we finished??
Just got this for 5 dollars on the PS store. Can't wait to try it out
ive always loved playing the forest!! im so ready for sons of the forest to come out on the 23rd!
Me and my friend bought the forest and are having a blast playing it. We spent around 12 hours building a huge base, walls, traps, 2 huge houses, zip lines to a treehouse. Then, a fatty and some weird looking spider thing along with 400 cannibals attacked. After we dealt with them, our whole base was destroyed. So we moved north to the snow area, and figured out we could make a water base which we did and it is so cool. It’s a buggy mess but still really fun
I've played the game multiple times i never fully understood the story thank u for this
That was a really funny way of saying ‘establish dominance over the local cannibals by eating their chief and absorbing his powers.’
The Forest is one of the only games I've played that actually has a great VR port/implementation
Tummy doesn't kill anyone on the talk show, he just spazzes out
I heard the rumor about the Forest 2 was about finding the lost daughter not about the cure and I think you just missed that part where Timmy stop his seizure when his father hug him.
The best bit about the Forest is its long tearm lastability and the scare factor that always has you on the edge of madness..its better in VR.

For some reason indie games are like that for me. The first 30 minutes I'm like "What am I supposed to do ? Where am I supposed to go ? This sucks, I'm bored. I can't believe I've spent $20 on this" and then if I keep playing, I start really liking the game. I felt the same way with a game called Visage and What Remains of Edith Fitch. For some reason I don't get that feeling with AAA games though. Indie games have to grow on you for an hour or so for you to like them a lot.
