There are two in my driveway. 210,000 & 160,000 miles. Just oil changes, tires and brakes. I do get temped by fancy features of newer cars, but I remember my Tahoe and Infinity QX80, and the lure is gone. I'll take reliability over gadgets any day.

I think Toyota has sat on their rear ends too long. No excuse for such poor fuel economy, low hp, a 5 speed transmission!?, and well behind state of the art tech. The only advantage this thing has is anecdotal reliability which is based on vehicles produced years ago.

I love my 2016 4runner trail with kdss, she's all decked out for overlandding in which I do a lot of. This is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned, she's coming up to 54000km which is nothing and it still drives the same as when I bought it new. The only thing I've replaced is a new battery last year and a drivers side mirror that stopped defrosting, that's it. But the best part is, she still looks in showroom condition due to me taking great care of it. She's a keeper.

4Runners are simply the coolest truck/suvs out there and no one can really debate that statement. My brother has one, me, my brother in law. We havent even Offroad together yet. It has a gravitational pull to its owners and makes you smile every time.

Traded in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, diesel for a brand new 2023 SR5 Premium 4Runner. In love, great ride, much more comfortable seating and ride than the GC. Thought I would really miss the GC but the only thing I miss is the power rear hatch. The 4Runner surpasses all of the new Jeep GC in comfort and PRICE!

I’ve wanted one of these since I was a kid. I remember when I was about 11 or 12 seeing a white 4Runner at the Toyota dealership and thinking man that’s a nice truck. I’m 35 now, and it’s still a pretty expensive vehicle but I’m not too far from being able to afford a new one. I’m not one to spend a lot on a car but I think the 4Runner is worth every penny.

I love my 2020 TRD Off-Road. I don't put a lot of km on it because I work from home. So, the poor gas mileage hasn't been a major problem for me. It's fantastic on road trips. And it's very useful during Canadian winters. If Toyota produces a hybrid version of the 4Runner, I would consider trading up for that. But, in the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy it.

I’m guessing that I may have to buy the 4Runner in Alberta and have it rust proofed there- then drive it to British Columbia for the break in.😊

@@jsnow6925 I was looking at used models but I found a '23 in the color and trim I wanted with no MSRP mark up. Brother in-law works at the sister dealership and told me that it was a "mistake" order. The factory didn't send it with extras like KDSS, black TRD wheels, step sides, etc. People around here want to drive off the lot looking extra cool so the dealerships make a point to put out models that look TRD Pro-ish and put the markups on those because they fly off the lot. This one came in and they just wanted to get rid of it and make room. Timing was perfect so i went brand new. That is a good point about pricing. I noticed 5 year old TRD Pros going for more than my brand new ORP

Just bought a 2023 ORP precisely because it DIDNT have all the ‘top tech’. We spend a little more on fuel up front, but the reliability will offset that over the long term. This is a vehicle for someone that is going to keep it long term. If you get a new car every 5 years then you are better off getting something else with better mileage.

Basic/simplicity is what gives this platform the title of reliability. There are less parts to break and replace. I once rented a BWM that had an electric gas cap and the hinge wouldn’t. How am I going to go to my destination without fuel? There is a market of people who don’t really care about fancy tech, and just want something they know works, with little to no maintenance. Toyota is just that.

@mexassin replacing batteries from hybrid and ev motors are expensive, along with other things that can fail with new technology. Spare parts are cheap and plentiful for the 4runner and it doesn't break down. Saving on repair cost outweighs the poor fuel economy. Over the period of 20 years you'd save so much more, even with current fuel prices.

Gas is as expensive as it has been in awhile regular 87 $4 * 20(gallons)= $80 (range about 300 miles)but is not going to make or break you . Say you have a 10 gallon tank that gets 30 mpg . So $4*10=$40 (300 mile range). Yes double but if you fill up 1 time a week $160 more a month, fill up twice $320 . Most of you prob spend $5 a day on coffee ($150 a month) . It is all relative …. I am never driving a damn Prius. Not to mention premium gas is more common in newer cars so closes the gap even more .

Modify your 4Runner, and you're still under the MSRP of modern competitors. With basic maintenance the 4Runner will run forever, which the competition can't say. 4Runner gets built in the same factory in Japan as the Lexus.

It took me 3 months to find my 2021 Trd. I wanted specific color and the 4wd shifter is a manual shifter compared to a knob. After June of 2021 which is the beginning of 2022 everything becomes a knob shift for 4wd 😢 Edit: Also ive drove the Prado in the middle east, practically the same. I just didn’t care about wrecking the prado during those times. 😂

Same vein as that it's essentially a better 4Runner with a V8, but the Lexus GX460 I would consider the most reliable new car you can buy. It was rated #1 most reliable this year for a reason.

I'd actually add that a LIMITED 4Runner is a very bad purchase. A base 460 is more well equipped with more modern features than a full trim Limited 4R. However that reliability may be a different discussion 15years from now if those electronic creature comforts don't hold up like the drivetrains have proven to do.

One of my uncles has had a 4runner with a brush guard, for like the entire time I've known him. Its survived florida heat, parry sound winters, and probably a spotty maintenance record (the guy's soo confident in the thing he's a lil loose on the maintenance schedule). 8 year old me thought it was the coolest car, and 12 year old me was disappointed we went 2wd RAV4 instead of a 4runner or sequoia. 28 year old me though, learned what we paid for that RAV4 recently, and questioned why tf we paid even that for a base RAV4 in 2012...

I had a 2018 TRD OR. Great, rock-solid TRUE SUV. But it was not a great travel vehicle. If you travel around town and short commutes and don't care about fuel economy, then maybe, yes. But for long trips at highway speeds, 70+mph, it struggles to maintain constant speed, even with cruise control and fuel economy suffers. It is, however, a purpose built off-roader and that's where it performs. I feel Toyota will ruin the 6th Gen by placing the 2.4l Turbo Hybrid into it. I really hope this isn't the case. I have high hopes for it along with the next LC that will come to the US. We'll see...

Reason engine is so reliable: large engine, low horsepower allows for overheating with no problem. The wires are thicker, better made than say American made cars that want to save money where able. The transmission and engine are excellent and the hydraulic steering fits in so well.

LOVE our '05 with 152K. Just won't die or break down. But, as others have noted, the horrible gas mileage has her sitting in the garage most of the time while we drive our hybrid RAV4. To the point that last year we only logged 1200 miles. Would I sell and buy a new SUV...Nope. I could NEVER replace this work horse for what we have in it. The cost of a new 4Runner or Highlander would never compensate for the crappy mileage, besides, I beat this thing like a rented mule, something I would not do with a new SUV.

I'm not sure atm, I picked up a 2019 4runner 30k miles. I've had multiple suspension issues and now have another metal clanking sound. Plus the steering wheel shakes at certain highway speeds which I hear has been a long time issue on the 4runner forums. I like the vehicle but if it keeps having issues it won't be sticking around.
