Why Solar Farms?

You need to make a small store with gas station burritos, cigarettes, and ice cold beer. Every man from that solar site will be at your store every day.

After the install is complete it’s back to ghost town. Solar lasts 30 years then they’ll be back to just swap panels which is faster than a new install.

This is true, you'd be amazed how much we have to pay for lodging (it's generally our companies who pay it and they will literally pay anything). That goes for solar, oil/gas, and wind. Sure there will always be maintenance, but there aren't nearly as many guys out there as there are for construction. So you if you have flat land, add RV parking, food, gas, all other convinces. Once the initial build is up (2-4 years) you buy more land down the road and sell the former rv parking spots. Then move the convince store location to a large trailer, and sell the construction company that building and then truck in the cheapest gas because they have the tanks for equipment. That's how a ton of people I know have become multi multi millionaires in a few years

Oh yeah that would be real smart let's build a building and put all this money up to create a store you're gonna need at least 500 K to do that just to have some business for about 3 months and after that it's going back to be a ghost town where nobody goes

In reality, they are a major producer of pollution in production and they do not off set the carbon output from their own manufacturing, let alone adding to green energy. You pr saw a socialist media video that told you everything you wanted to hear about solar and you take that as truth. Not hating on solar, I have a solar set up myself because after the investment, I literally do not pay for electricity. It’s a small set up too so I didn’t have to take out a loan for it because I don’t live an overly extravagant wasteful life. I just need a light at night, phone charger which is also my alarm and occasionally a small fan for when it’s 90 degrees, no ac. Have you considered removing and recycling you air conditioner? Storing the solar is always the issue, but apparently the Chinese figured out some kind of longer-term storage for it. There's nothing wrong with diversifying our energy infastructure but we need a new nuclear power station in AZ like a fish needs water. It would be cool if we could get some scaled up version of a thorium reactor (or several) and start processing the nuclear waste in NV.

@davidrubinstein5359hailstorms are nonexistent in large chunks of the country(such as the locations where solar is most effective) and even then it’s not that hard to figure out a solution for them, a low tech solution would be just to watch the news and have some $12 hr chump come and put sheet metal panels over them before any potentially damaging weather events. You could even install a roof over the farm depending on how it’s set up but you would be losing space efficiency because you’d have to do it in strips to avoid covering the panels with shade during the peak which is where most of the power comes from. We shouldn’t be discouraging power companies from experimenting and trying to find more efficient ways of generating power, the old ways are dangerous. Even if you don’t believe in climate change the health concerns from being next to a coal power plant are something that can’t be denied, the less cancer causing coal dust there is the better. Maybe solar doesn’t work out, but maybe in the process we find something that works even better. That’s how progress happens. People said the same shit about switching from horses to cars because horses were a lot better then the original cars were, but over time they got better. This is what’s happening right now, we are at that uncomfortable stage where the electric cars and the green energy is just worse then the old ways, but the potential is leaps and bounds ahead of those old ways and one day there will be people who view the skeptics of our time as morons.

Not to mention you are paying for it and it is a garbage product. You might get a discount on those solar panels, but you are paying way more in taxes to have them.

Solar panels are really shortsighted because right now there is no conventional means of recycling them efficiently or properly. So our recycling program is basically to donate them the Third World countries under the guise of helping set up their own solar programs, but really, we’re just dumping our old garbage on them. We’ve also been doing it with computers for years.

The problem with oil and gas guys is they don’t see themselves as part of the ENERGY sector. The entire industry should WANT to move responsibly towards renewable sources. These guys don’t care that oil will eventually run out, because their concerns begin and end with themselves and their IMMEDIATE descendants. As long as they can collect enormous incomes for labour roles they don’t care about the environmental cost.

I built a few solar farms. The company leases your land for 30 years and then has to develop it back to farm use if they decide not to extend the lease. Farmer is getting 500k per year for use of his land. That's a good amount to sit on your ass all day. The farmers or locals usually get hired to cut the grass/weeds and snow removal and get all the equipment they need to do the job paid for.

Why? They can't be recycled. They are full of toxic materials. Their materials are mined by children and slave labor. They degrade at 2-3% annually and are next to useless after 20 years. The converters cause serious health issues to people that spend any length of time next to them. There was just a big solar farm destroyed by a hailstorm. So instead of 20 years they got less than 2. Perhaps you are not as smart as you think you are.

Until they take up fertile farm land and destroy the environment for everything that did live there, and heat islands that will obviously effect the temperature of the surrounding area. Solar is a dogshit solution to a problem that's been solved already.

Also, producing electricity from solar panels succeeds at greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Not as though solar is pointless. Now let’s subsidize energy storage tech research half as much as we subsidize fossil fuels and solar will be taking over in no time
