She’s actually the bigger person for suggesting that. She has such a big heart and knew the person who ended up with the short end of the stick would feel bad. the utility room doesn’t even have a window. Wtf? SM is a big company why can’t they give them a 5 bedroom house or two flats? They can certainly afford it. It’s the biggest company and red velvet are making more than enough.

@@user-ly4wt9xp4i Would you rather to have 2 houses but the company deduct it from their earnings, meaning they take home less. every thing they use is not free, it comes charged to their expenses, sure SM could give each of them a flat and a personal car, but if that mean they have to work another 5 years to repay all that i think the girls would rather share in flat for the time being.

Ashley Chong please try to understand that she didn’t choose the utility room because she’s smart or has ulterior motives. She did it because of the goodness in her heart. After all, there’s nothing compared to one big nice room where she gets all the privacy she wants, she clearly doesn’t get any privacy at all for getting the common room and the corridor

yes and it’s hard for them to have their own house. they have to be ultra successful to afford one. and actually, it’s similar financially. idols get paid like college/uni students a LOT of the time if they have part time jobs (idk about idols who are on the top of the charts a lot tho) and I’ve heard that for some idols, even a cafe job gives you more money than their fucking celebrity job.

I wouldn't be surprised if the girls move again in the next year or so. It would've been good if SM gave them a bigger apartment especially when you listen to the full clip and know that all of the rooms were too small when they put their closets in. I guess at least they all have their own rooms now, in the last place everyone shared except Irene. Hope Red Velvet get some more space in their next place.

@University student in hiding ho ho ho I think that applies more so for groups that aren't as active or where the members have purchased homes. For groups that have like one or two comebacks a year its true but with Red Velvet they are actively working together for at least 9 months in the year with no members having purchased a house yet so I think this is their main staying place as I've only ever heard of them saying that they visited home for a bit not that they stayed their.

usually the next stage after getting their own room, would be to move out of their dorms. if the members are rich enough, they will soon buy or rent their own apartment or move back to their parents home, and live apart, and have the manager pick them up separately.

Ok I can’t believe this. I know that compared to the other idol groups from smaller agencies, their dorms are already considered luxurious, but still, I expected more from a SM group that’s doing well. How can it be that one member has to sleep in the utility room, and that the other members’ rooms are too small for comfort after fitting closets in them? The fact that SM didn’t do anything even after the girls expressed their dissatisfaction is upsetting. I’m glad Joy spoke up about this, because it seems like most agencies only do something when their artists throw them under the bus publicly on broadcasts.

Because apartments are expensive in Seoul and most are small anyway. Finding a 5 bedroom apartment is really hard and most are maxed at 4 rooms. Sm wanted to keep RV together so they can travel and pick them up easily for work.

your dog speaks chinese you shouldn't use YG dorms as an example bc they literally live in apartments rather than dorms. Even when BP just debuted, all of them had separate rooms, which is basically impossible for Korean standards. YG is not a good example to compare to but they can be the standard

Rooms in Seoul are small in general. And it’s hard to find an apartment with 5 bedrooms. Also they are idols so they cannot just simply find an apartment randomly and move in. According to what I know SM purchased a building several years ago and it is used as dorms for SM trainees and artists. So basically all the apartments in the building are the same. And it’s about the time that members are going to get their own property and live apart since they have debuted for a long time now. Although RV is very active now, they are not in Seoul for most of the time. Especially last year and this year, they are busy with their concerts and variety shows so most of the time they are not even staying in their dorms😂 I think it’s enough if they only stay during comeback

@@pikapika4110 Well gfriend live in 2 apartement in the same building and they have 6 member. And source music is not a big company like sm but i think they treat their artist better. At first gfriend live in a small dorm with 2 room where there is 1 room shared for 4 member. As their group growing they move to a bigger dorm where there is 3 room and each room is shared by 2 member. And now gfriend live in 2 apartement in the same building and have their own room. At least sm should hear their artist and give them what they want because they get money from their artist.

vanessa Gi I think that’s why SM made them stay in 1 house so that they can keep bonding before they move out. But let’s be honest, it might be a while before they move out, I mean they don’t have to pay for rent or electricity or anything so they’ll keep living in the dorm until they truly wanna be free , BUT ITS NICE THAT THEY ARE STILL TOGETHER. I remember SHINee only lived in one dorm and that Jonghyun and Taemin had to share a room and Onew had to share with the manager while key and Minho got their own rooms. And onew and Minho still live in the dorm (aka smart boys because they are saving a lot of money just by staying at the dorm and + there’s less ppl so it’s basically ur own house rent free and u have a cook/maid too I mean WHAT A LIFE) but yah Red velvet is lucky cause they all have their own rooms hehe

A few SNSD members stayed together (Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon) even when most of the others moved out. So even if they have a choice, some might want to still live together.

@@kingchoisan i was wondering the same thing, but i figured they were counting it as in they are starting their 7th year together? 2014 was their 1st year together, 2015 was their 2nd, 2016 was their 3rd, 2017 was their 4th, 2018 was their 5th, 2019 was their 6th, and so 2020 is their 7th.

So the girls asked SM to give them two apartments (since it's basically impossible to get a 5 bedroom apartment in Seoul with the same sized bedrooms) but SM wanted them to live together. This really is the fault of SM, and as others have pointed out seems to be the norm there. I hope I don't see people sending hate to the other members about this situation (I've sadly seen some comments degrading others), it wasn't of their own choosing. I think Red Velvet moved into their new apartment at the end of 2018. In their previous apartment Irene had her own room, Yeri and Joy shared a room, and Seulgi and Wendy shared a room.

I can understand both SM and RV's side, SM makes them stay together so that it will be easier to pick them up for schedule, guard them from sasaengs, etc. I also agree that getting two apartments for 5 member-group, isn't efficient. Groups with separate dorms need to make time to gather around to keep the teamwork going. I personally think it's fine as long as SM still give them time to go home sometimes and be with their respective family.

sy l tbh red velvet is lucky af. They all got their own rooms. SHINee didn’t. They’ve been living in the same dorm since they debuted. Jonghyun and Tae had to share a room and Onew and the manager had to share a room. I mean there’s kinda no point in moving to two houses with only 5 members....... if there was 6 of them then that’s different story.

I can see that you have not probed that much unto how most of the entertainment companies treat their idols huh. The industry is much harsher for girl idols since they have to meet this ridiculous weight standard, they literally starve the girls to near death all the while practicing/training day and night for every single day. Only ent. Company that i know that treats their idols as humans is BigHit entertainment.

@@HackerArmy03 but Jimin starved himself for 10 days for Blood Sweat and Tears promotions. Also members have said in their rookie days the managers would monitor them when eating, they even called jin a pig. Also I'm pretty sure at 16-18 they didn't have abs and muscles naturally, so they probably were encouraged to work out to look more attractive. It's harsh, not as bad as other companies, but still harsh.

@@ghostofmisao. I'm pretty sure It was not at the order of Bighit for Jimin to do it. It was because he was really insecure of himself back then. Labelling himself as "fat" while in our standards he's really skinny as heck. For the Jin thing, I'm 95% sure it was with the members when they were having this game of roasting each other. It is indeed harsh, as at the end of the day, it's still a job. :(

Rain bighit is just as bad as any other company. it has flaws, plays favoritism towards certain members and has the boys on diets before. (also the seokjin and manager thing is true, but he got fired and is no longer managing the boys) but either way idols should be treated like human, i hope this kind of behavior in the industry dies down

The corridor becomes her closet and that one is the dead end corner of the house so no member would walk through corridor except they want to visit Seulgi's room. I watched 'eyecam' where Seulgi showed her room, it's tragically small but she has decorated it to make it comfy and I think it suits her well. Several members like Wendy and Irened even love to visit Seulgi's room to do livestream hahaha So yea she is kind and dont want conflict so she selflessly take the utility room, but she is also genius and creative human being to turn her disadvantage into something more.

I would still fight SM, rv is a 6 year group much older than rowoons group and that has brought in millions for SM the least they could do is provide each member a space to have their own privacy

Ok so for those of u who don’t know, Kpop idols don’t get paid a lot as everything is paid for by the company. So while you’re a trainee, the company pays for everything like ur education and ur dance classes and stuff so once u debut, you r in debt to the company. To pay that debt, the company takes the money from the sales of the group. I’d say that out of YG, JYP and SM, JYP is the fairest because they provide you with the living expenses you need.

Seulgi got the smallest room but everyone loves to hang out on her room(especially Irene and Wendy) . Joy even got jealous of Seulgi because Wendy would always come to Seulgi's room.

No, she said nothing about ulterior motives, she enjoyed her room and that she's the type of person who can live in small spaces. Fans kept making a big deal about it during her bday live and saying it was unfair that she was in the smallest room even though she is the one who chose the room, to avoid conflict

Winner only have 4 members and YG provides them 2 big apartments units after they complained. The reasons? They wanna separate the cats and dogs also they have a lot of stuff like clothes, shoes, and furnitures once I saw it on variety show before 2 members move out and it looked stuffed despite how spacious it is cuz it's the same one as Blackpink's. I can't imagine how 11 people can fit in one apartment. I'm glad everything gets better for them !

Glad each of them has their own room now. They deserve it. But thankfully they only have 5 members I remembered SNSD sharing only 3 rooms before. Taeyeon yoona and soo young got the smallest room and they had to share and now they each have their own house. Maybe red velvet will be like them also. But tbh the best memories of their idol life would be the times they are living in their dormitory together.

*UPDATE:* seulgi said that she has her own house right now🥺✨ edit: but don’t worry bc seulgi said that she often visit their dorm to hang out with other members🤧💗💛💙💚💜

Red Velvet is one of the most well known gg inland and overseas, yet their dorm sounds so.. crappy? i know apartments in Korea are expensive, but SME earns so much money with Red Velvet considering how every comeback is a success. Plus it's only five members.

I think they make a lot of money for the company, they deserve a bigger apartment.

thats not being smart it’s being nice. how could be that smart. her clothes is in hallway if you saw joy video in eye contact you can see seulgi clothes. imagine you have a visitor and they saw seulgi clothes there and the dust of the house is in her clothes plus she have to go outside just to pick her own clothes. thats not being smart she did that coz shes kind and she always think of others. yeah thats the personality of seulgi. kind and loving bear. sorry but for me it’s was a big sacrifice.

what better about that? if they have visitor all her clothes are displayed and the dust fr outside whenever they open the door and dust from cleaning the house.
