Why Sales Reps Are Missing Quota Right Now

I have been working in software sales for 4.5 years and promoted my way up at the same company from SDR to AE.
My goal is to become an enterprise account executive, which comes with a $250k OTE minimum
I found this data on revpue showing the top enterprise tech sales positions & their OTE’s & percent of reps hitting quota (in order to be valid response there needs to be at least 5 real reps responding). My observations is that even with a high OTE if you are not hitting your quota you do not make anywhere near that amount. Even the Google’s & Amazon AWS’s of the world.
The question is why sales reps are missing quota right now.
Rep perspective: most reps are blaming the market with bad economy, some are blaming poor leadership, or books of business
Sales leader/company perspective: the companies are blaming the reps for not working harder, & also problem the economy
Everyone is blaming everyone but themselves. I believe it’s important to take absolute accountably as a rep for the good & the bad.
I have 3 recommendations to improve things.
1. Change our internal language (I have to go to work vs I choose to go to work), wealth is gratitude
2. Recognize that sales is not equal outcome: we operate in a performance based profession, there will be winners & losers. Think about nature & animals, Sheep vs wolf or lions vs gazelles
3. The only way to improve our circumstances is by improving ourselves, our mind is like a garden

Bro ! Thanks for the tips ! I've applied a good few of them and I started managing my SDR better . I'm 187 % of my December's target already . I thought December is going to be a month where I'll just give up half way through because of people's perception of it being quiet. I am looking forward to 2023 big time

It's not uncommon that I re-watch certain videos as repetition drives internalization for me. I'm all about giving myself the hard truths, and when they come from you, I trust them because I know it's legit 🙏🏾. Definitely will be watching this several more times.
