It is a shame, But completely unsurprising. The woke crusaders are trying to go after every single game/game franchise out there, So at the end of the day the best thing to do is just to stick to the older games in my opinion. Ever since they've been pushing woke messages in video games I've been focusing on older games and I've really been enjoying either revisiting the older games that I grew up with (Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress, Bioshock) or visiting older games that I haven't played but have high praise.

"How did the parent studio go under because of one failed game?" - It didn't. It went under because of a series of poorly managed choices. The talent that used to exist were gone, or have moved beyond their interests in the past. They then wanted to make games they wanted to create, but players didn't want to play. Lack of leadership and so on. What actually killed the studio was that the Saudi investor pulled out last second which lead to the collapse. They had mismanaged the company to the point the investor was the only hope they had.

Can't get jiggy with it. Played the beginning about 5 times. Each time something grabs my attention more than the game. Now it's sitting in my library. This was legit this week lmao

I remember the Devs saying it gets better after a while trust us. So I thought and hoped that maybe the trailer was a miss direct, maybe after the first mission the camera pulls back and it's Shaundi playing a video game, throwing the controller saying "This sucks" or something equally as witty, but that never happened. I didn't mind the idea of a reboot, I was even prepared for new characters, I just wasn't prepared for these characters, or the story, or the writing.

I was planning to actually watch this one (as opposed to listen to it in the background like I do with most video essays on youtube, haha) but for some reason I find the editing style in this video very jarring. I'm only 4 minutes in but the fact that every 30 seconds there is a sequence where you just show a single word at a time over a moving background while you talk is giving me a huge headache. Really unfortunate because I have some truly amazing and terrible memories playing this series and I was looking forward to seeing some nostalgic footage. 😅

I honestly would like a another game so the Saints Row IP doesn’t lay to rest with such a shit show of a video game reboot but at the same time how in the hell does one come back from such a huge disaster? Especially how cocky and arrogant the marketing team acted in the Twitter comments of fans like “haters gonna hate” and that one dev making the “Quit having fun” meme being completely tone deaf about the situation of the game. If you go into this game without the expectation of the older saints row games and kind of think of it as it’s own game it’s actually fire. I don’t understand the issues people are having must just be mad it’s not like the old ones cause this game is actually amazing if you didn’t spend 70 on it and can understand how to snap your aim and press L2 and X to quick turn in your cars. Well, I have a hard time feeling sympathy. They split the fanbase with SR3 and since then, one half of the fanbase, including me, told them time and time again to go back to the roots with the 90's gang culture. And what did we get? Aliens, Hell, Agents of Mayhem and the Reboot.

One of the biggest problems I have with the reboot is that enemy gangs still spawn in claimed territory

Why did the studio have to care what people thought? It’s always the people or “fans/haters” who ruin stuff. 😒

Saints Row franchise perfectly encapsulated the typical office composition 'evolution' of most surviving dev groups today; a team, initally founded and helmed by passionate geeks and nerds(SR1, SR2), only to be taken over by corporate dudebros(SR3), until those where slowly supplanted, and killed off by hipsters(SR4,AoM,nu-SR).

People often use video games (As well as movies, TV shows, Et cetera.) as an escape to the issues they face (Whether that be in their own lives or in the greater world), However when you start to go after these aforementioned escapes to corrupt and try to push an agenda that people trying to escape by participating in said escape then it utterly infuriates people and causes them to either boycott your product or simply stick to playing older games (Or both, Especially). So that is why Saints Row (And in extension all games/movies/TV shows that push a political/Leftist narrative) failed, Because people didn't want a game about some gangster Liberals who try to crusade against things they don't like and people they don't agree with.

Man the "go woke go broke" bullshit has been proven wrong time and time again what people and audiences really dislike is bad writing as opposed to leftist messages. While those things can sometimes overlap they are not the same thing. Along with that not all media needs to escapist fantasy devoid of political messaging. With games especially it's more about the level you as a player engage with those themes. You can choose to treat very political games like fallout new Vegas and bioshock as fun sci-fi action games whereas people like me choose to think about the themes and political messages, and id argue neither of these approaches are necessarily right or wrong

The first Saints Row was the most gangster one, not overly comedic or goofy. All about gangs and turf wars. BUT... the second one was my favorite and the best in my opinion. They added so much. It was the perfect blend of comedy and action.

I loved Saints Row 2. It's a game I still like to go back and play every once in a while. I spared myself the torture of playing Saints Row 2022. I would still like to see a new Saints Row game. More so a reboot of the first two games, if that's possible. Just use the same world. Make the cities more robust, allow for more NPC interaction, accessing more buildings, newer vehicles. The game already had a good assortment of weapons.

The location of Santo Ileso had so much potential and an origin story had EVEN MORE potential. Unfortunately... The downside is the characters of SR '22 is the characters were pretty much carbon copies of the previous characters and Chidi from The Good Place

I played this game recently, the 2022 reboot, finished the story I can tell you guys, the game feels like watching a disney channel sitcom with curse words to sound edgy for teenage audiencies I guess (? Not recomended at all unless you are desperately waiting for gta 6 and already played most of the style of games tbh

3 was where the loss of identity started as Lazerzz pointed out. It was about gang warfare but the characters took it seriously and at 3 they stopped taking it as seriously where the MC literally references being unkillable. This said the stakes kinda drop even after watching Gat get stabbed who later comes back in 4. That said 2 people were dying left and right. No-one except Gat and the boss truely thought they were the shit but rightfully so they were both monsters. And even then they still watch carlos and aisha get murdered. Just go watch the brotherhood cutscenes and tell me that any of the other gangs after 2 had that level of depravity. Better yet ill refer you back to LazerzZ's Saints Row Retrospective

Replayed SR1+2 over this last winter. Good times. SR3 wasn't terrible but they started going overboard with the goofiness I think. I really liked the gang warfare aspect of SR2; I wish they did more with it.

I got it free on PS Plus and remenber the game telling me how to get money and one way was drug staches, boxes on People rooftops for some reason, before this I was already pissed with the game and when I went to grab the drugs, literally 3 or 4 houses all close to one another all with the same crates models and just one was collectible. It just broke me, I unistalled it immediatly.

What epic exclusivity does

Alternative Path of how Saints Row could of gotten back on its feet: I was hoping for this to be Johnny Gat surviving during the plane flight. In alternate approach of what should have happen in after SR3, it could have went as Gat survived some how and was led to a new location because of the oceans current. These past games could just be Gat Hallucinations after finally waking up to the situation he is currently at. During his recovery GAT heard about the news of the crew and what has happened while he was gone. I was thinking they could went with the approach and keep the roots going but in a more serious tone with the same attics it had from the beginning. The plot could have been GAT recovered and has entered in a land that could be a gold mine. The place could be a new location, with bigger fish to catch and new rivals and bigger opportunities. This was some thing I thought could of happened to bring the crew back to its core and having its roots combined with the name game play mechanics but keep it in a fresh nostalgic feel of how SR2 was and ride that.

Then look at the potential new players and went with the most corporate idea of a 'Hello,fellow youth' type of safe comedy nobody likes. "Hurr,college loans, amma right? And thats not counting bugs,glitches,errors that made you reset YOUR PC.. yeah,anyone would avoid it like the plague

I think I can give them ideas the game just needs to make the sci-fi stuff completely separate from regular gameplay itself, sr4 has one of the best storylines in gaming history if you look at it on pen and paper but all the superpowers and fighting aliens as a main story was just pushing it way past what saints row is really about, at the end of sr4 the aliens said they could save earth with time travel, going back in time means the saints could have alerted everything and continued living on fighting to dominate every street gang, possibly other country’s after they had to disappear or something who knows. Just ideas I don’t want saints row to end, I think even the movie still has potential

I loved sr2 and sr3/4 was an absolute banger for me. I don’t know what the heck they were thinking here.

All they have to do is make it gangster again🤦🏾‍♂️ why are they making it complicated.. a regular gangster saints row with a great storyline like 1 & 2 will make Og & New fans happy

I don't know how could they possibly be chocked that fans hated it. They were WARNED from Gat Out of Hell to the trailer. They decided to literally make an analogy with the trailer about how they would blow up the old gangsters in favour of having new, """"""""""hip"""""""""" ones that were trying to pander for a public they didn't even understand. The constant disrespect of the fans and the stupidity of disregarding your old, most loyal fans on a blind try to make a new series out of a very well established series, throwing everything the people wanted to see on the trash and listening to no one who would actually buy and play the game, that's what killed Volition. And they deserved it.

Gat out of hell was good only because i played scatman john music in the background while playing 😂

They actively spat in old players faces. The core of your audience. Really bad idea.

Saints Row 2 is still an amazing to this day. Gat out of Hell as a correction WAS a DLC first and foremost as it used your SR4 main character then they removed the DLC portion and made it a full game on its own even still the game is a lot better than base game of SR4

I would love to see saints row make a big come back
