I saw the film in theaters, so the beach scene was extremely harrowing. Especially with the large and clear screen and speakers that elevated the sound design

So what is the context of the song ''When I was older''? And why title Roma? Aren't these Asians?

My parents grew up in Mexico City and Roma was incredibly nostalgic for them. Their lives were very similar to the children and have memories of their nannies, maids and chauffeurs. I’ve been to their childhood homes many times and they are mostly the same as they were all that time ago and the same class dynamics. I appreciate Roma for giving me a look at the world my parents lived in.

One of my best friends is from Mexico and i watched this film with her. She cried non stop. She said it portrayed perfectly her life with her nanny.
The first time I watch this film it didnt feel like I was watching a movie, but more like i time travel back to Mexico in 1970. It feel like living day to day life with the characters and made it feel more attached to them. There's no huge character dramatic arcs but its the simplicity of the characters that made it feel relateable and follow the characters on their journey through the unpredictability of life. This movie and Boyhood are so similar in thematics but Roma is more authentic and haunting in its presentation
THIS CHANNEL IS REALLY UNDERRATED x2
What's your favorite moment from Roma? Or from Cuaron's other works?

Tough one, the ambush in the car long shot from Children of Men, Harry doing the Patronus spell agaisnt the dementors. Gravity's opening scene, the threesome from y tu mama tambien ugh so many to choose from, so hard to select which is my favorite. Cuaron is such a gifted visual storyteller and filmmaker.

The rejection from the guy that got her pregnant. It was so rough, so real. I wanted to throw my computer thru the window at that moment.

Great analysis of this great masterpiece!!! Not to dish it out on Korea (more on the Academy), but Roma should have been the first film to win both Best picture and Best foreign language at the Oscars... Thanx!!!
I absolutely agree. This was exactly the message I took from this film. We are all living in this fast foward times like life is something beyond us. It was really refreshing watching it as a reminder to live in the here and now.
If channels like this didn’t exist I’d never discover these kinds of films
The amount of work you put in every single one of your videos is truly amazing and your analysis is always on point! I love this channel and thank you for your work ❤️
What a pleasure to be taken through the movie by your words and film excerpt!
Thank you for this thoughtful review. It made me want to rewatch it. The symbolism in this movie is beautiful, and the cinematography blew me away. That camera work is so freaking good!!
Finally Thanks for this beautiful video
Beautiful analysis, I am glad your channel is starting to gain traction. I wish you the best.
It was a beautiful movie... filmed beautifully and only a small script its a visual movie that speaks for itself, it doesn't need a lengthy script... if you dont like subtitles its a plus as you get to read and still look at the beauty of the film. A film that shows people treating people well, with love and care no matter their station/role in life... they truly love Cleo and the other household help and vice versa. The young lad was talking to Cleo about past lives on several occasions and always interrupted - he had been a pilot and a sailor and he says when he was old Cleo was with him in that life and I wish they explored that more.....
Brilliant video essay! Makes me wish I'd appreciated 'Roma' a bit more back when it came out. Surely, I think it's a film that will grow on people as time goes on.

A gorgeous movie, It almost feels like you’re there i remember feeling so comforted and held by the film I have no other idea how to put it! Like the average and mundane of a normal persons life is e what makes it so harrowing and beautiful ❤️
I have lived my entire life in Mexico City! this film captures the essence of the city itself; its crazy streets, the life that surrounds everything, the sounds of a city that is alive, and the ordinary lives of its citizens! I loved this film! Thank you for your analysis... I didnt realize how this move portraits the still moments of life
You seem to make this film even more beautiful.

I have watched only Harry Potter and Gravity. The scenery in H.P. was so beautiful and Gravity was so visually appealing and the visual effects was top notch. I'm looking forward for Children of men and Roma. Cuaron is one of my favourite director. p.s. I always love your movie analysis and editing style.
This is a phenomenal video essay
the audio in video is as crisp as in the movie
This was beautiful! Thanks
Thanks so much for this analysis of my favorite movie. It perfectly captured Mexico when I lived there in 1963.
Thank you for coming into my life.
Double u as in water. Mexico City was founded on a Lake in 1325 by the Aztecs. Water city
this is one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen
To me the film was thank you to the nanny(s) of his childhood. Cleo is a quiet rudder, somewhat selfless and giving. Her own problems take a backseat to those of the mother and the children -- that is a dynamic that children don't see but as an adult looking back perhaps there is a sense of guilt at having not appreciated her. The style of the film is highly observational and meditational. It is filled with longing and the bittersweet perspectives on how the innocence and naiveity of childhood colors our memories of those years but revisiting them in an honest and mature way challenges how we think about ourselves and others.
This film has an incredible implementation of Dolby Atmos. It creates a scintillating, immersive world with layers of sound creating a massive atmosphere.
I really enjoy this channel and respect your approach, it helped me realize why I don't like this movie, I guess that I enjoy my slow, long, with nothing mayor going on-esque films when the characters are the central point in a human and emotional way; "Roma" been in conjunction with this "bigger picture of the world" (or something like that) just doesn't appeal to me, how can I care of the world if nobody matters as individuals?, I watched it last year and maybe I could appreciated more now, who Knows? Also I want to clarify that this is only how I feel about the film right now, and IDK if it could be possible for you because of the language barrier, but I’d appreciated if you tried to watch anyone of these: -Anna (2015) by Jacques Toulemonde Vidal. -Los viajes del viento “The Wind Journeys” (2009) by Ciro Guerra. -Niña errante “Wandering Girl” (2018) by Rubén Mendoza. I'm not asking for anything, just saying "Hey!, maybe you'd like other latinoamerican movies from Colombia"

Dope. Will definitely check them out. Thanks for that!
상점 하혈씬부터 휴지 붙들고 봤던 기억이 납니다. 잔잔하고 정적인 전개와 달리 묵직한 울림이 있는 영화인 것 같아요.
오우 감사합니다!!!
This is quality content
Haven't seen the film, but maybe water (essential to everyone) runs as a common thread because access to water is such a distinct determining factor of class. For people who are consider themselves or are considered poor or lower class may be relegated to places where you have to go get water. And that water may not be initially safe to drink. For recreational use, upper class has pools while the lower class has to rely on going to the beach. And even with beach access, there can be separation with upper class being on boats while lower class has to stay near the shore. And another part is that life can still be fruitful regardless as long what's essential is available.

Absolutely, there’s definitely a moment in the film, I think when she goes to the lower class neighborhood, where the political speakers in the background are rallying people specifically over their limited access to water. The violence of the massacre that results from the related political tension ends up indirectly leading to her water breaking, and the stillbirth… She’s able to save the more wealthy children she serves from the dangers of water, but her own child dies in the water of her own womb.

I have a problem with Roma, which is how universally its photography is praised, while I find it very gray compared to the dédiant days of black and white. This being said, you included my favourite moment around 00:40 so as usual, bravo. This is a very good movie. My concern is I can't watch it otherwise than a fake vintage movie. Somehow the production design conflicts with the meaning of the story...
