For real i love these videos, so well articulated and a cool perspective on things.

I've found multiple band's simply because they had interesting reviews, hell i got into Mr. Bungle because someone described one of their albums as sounding like "being beaten to death by an army of clowns who are bombing you with pies while your in a burning restaurant" and i had to know what the fuck that meant

I’m so happy you reviewed this topic. Even if the reviews were trash talking these bands, people got into bands due to that. Like what you said about throbbing gristle, obscure band that got attention by reviews. Keep up the great work and Rock On!

Anal Cunt got reviewed in a newspaper in the late 80s. The reviewer TRASHED them for several paragraphs. The band were like, “wow, they had a lot to say about us!” Haha

Same. I prefer to make up my own mind. With songs going up on KZread, I have less chance of ending up with a cd I personally dislike. The downside is, my wishlist is starting to get out of hand. 😅

I enjoy looking at reviews, this puts me in someone's else shoes and see why or why not an album strikes as a great/best/bad/worst in their opinion. I think maybe I'll do some albuns reviews somedayz and then even my opinion can influence someone else.

I find reviews useful for some things, although that's more to do with stuff that may have wide-spread issues with shoddy material, or a game with bad controls, bugs/glitches.

I am having a problem and your video came right on time. So please tell me if you can How many times do you listen to an album before deciding whether you like it or not? I have been going through Broken Hope albums these couple of days. I listened to Swamped in Gore a few times and I really liked it. It took me one time though to like The Bowels of Repugnance. Then I listened to Repulsive Conception twice and didn't like it. I am asking because Metal music is different from other genres. Sometimes an album is bad the first time or it doesn't click right away. And it gets better with every listen,and sometimes albums are good the first time and you get bored with them. Technical death metal Is the main reason why I am asking this. A story that happened to me is that.I listened a couple of times to Passages Of Deformity and Winds Of Creation and was like yeah they are not good. And then I decided to give them a couple of listens and now I can't stop listening to them. They are great and amazing.they are so technical that they don't click right away. So I guess the right time is about 5 times. But again an album might be just not good. And it won't get better with each listen.because it's poorly written. So what should I do? I don't wanna waste my time. If it's just bad. As I've said I didn't like Repulsive Conception after 2 listens. And I don't think I am gonna like it. ...... But again that kinda counters my idea of listening to an album 5 times before really deciding if I like it or not. Also I think that it differs with each subgenre. For example a complex written album like in Tech Death takes more listens. While a death metal might take few than 5 listens. What are your thoughts on all of this?

Depends on the album. There are albums I didn’t like at first then grew to like as time went on (Nine Inch Nails “Year Zero”). Others, like Lords of Acid “Deep Chills” I think get worse the more I listen to them. Hard to say, really. All depends on if you’re willing to give things another shot. Sometimes you gotta come clean, and it’s a feeling like a switch in your brain.
