When I was a student, I liked reading those self help books. As I grow up, I think they will not help me much in my life. You are right. Fictions are way much better and thought provoking and interesting.

Great video, completly agree with you. I had a great relation with self help books and motivation videos on youtube when i was young. I was incredible shy until my 18. Self help like RSD made me realise that it was possible to lose my shyness, because writters were too. And yes, i lost my shyness, with a lot of work, embarassment and some great relationships on the process. BUt it ended there. Self help books and videos started to look cringe. Once we trully start to work on our confidence, like talking to strangers, taking care of ourselfs, sleep well and all this obvious things, Self help books seem just ways to make money telling obvious things and writting 300 pages going around and around, just to make money. LIke books on meditation. You can have a 300 page book on meditation (the non scientifical ones) and meditation is just focus on your breathing (or something like a flame) and breathing slowly. Just one line. Btw, one of tge best fiction book i read and also helped was the blue castle

Fiction forces you to be your own philosopher guru. You're not told what to think and you have to figure it out for yourself. I love humor so I recomment two books for your entertainment. Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain which in a loving way really spoofs American travellers. A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole is rich with offbeat characters living in and around the French Quarter in New Orleans. I've read it several times and sometimes just crack it open and start reading. I vote for more books and movies.

When books are translated to other languages, it can change the entire interpretation, message, and atmosphere. This is especially true with Murakami’s works. He is internationally recognized and his books are translated to a very large number of languages. The Japanese language, combined with Murakami’s style which weaves between real and dreamlike states, makes it impossible to be translated accurately to other languages due to the highly interpretive passages. Nevermind translating those passages to one language, but doing so consistently between multiple languages, means you are bound to have a different experience and feeling depending on which language/version you read. Murakami’s translators are very carefully chosen.

Yes, thats why Murakami has worked literally with the same English translator for almost 3 decades now. I am Mexican but I prefer the english translations of Murakamis books over the spaniards ones. Murakami has also talked about his translators and why he only works with a few selected ones.

Omg you are so right about those self help books, somehow they feel anti self help haha. I will definitely check out Haruki Mukarami that you suggested, really like the idea of getting transported to dream like state. Thanks Dan 😊

Murakami is great but you really need to start with specific books because his work gets bizarre. For example starting with 1Q84 without knowing his style before hand will only get you confused. I would say start with the pinball chronicles (his first series of books) and Sputnik sweetheart to get an idea of his style of writing.

@@thoughtsontravelandlife I thought it was another meeting about BLACK LIVES MATTER. Seriously. Btw just wanted to share that I was invited to study in Korea yesterday. I applied for master's. Very happy to have this opportunity. I had comment in this channel about money problems, putting obstacles in the way of travelling in some countries a few days ago. And now this happened. I have now opportunity to explore myself in different culture, which is unique experience, that will definitely change my mental state, my attitude towards my inner self and surrounding people and Universe. Hopefully😊. Believe in your dreams guys. They tend to come true😊😊😊.

Tony Robbins never looks right to me and his voice is absolutely irritating. Self-help books have different aspects. It can go from finanace to woo-woo. It depends on how you like to perceive it. There are still good ones there, you just need to dig deeper. I think 1984, Animal Farms, Lord of the Flies are the must read in high school, isn't it now? So no thank you. I love a book of Haruki Muramaki about running, don't know the name in English. It's like running with him while reading his work. Personally, I don't read or watch fiction, just don't like to spend time on people's imagination and the ending can be very subjective. Anyways, reading is the first step to expend knowledge and critical thinking. More books pls 📚🐢 (Any opinon on the 215 indigenous kids?)

The book is called "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" - I read it during quarantine and enjoyed it as well :) Regarding the indigenous children, I really don't know what to say other than it's a horrific bit of news... a reminder of the darkest chapter of Canadian history. I feel torn recently when social events are happening, between part of me wanting to discuss it on my channel and try to get conversations going... and part of me feeling that if I'm not deeply educated about a topic I should just say nothing. I don't want to make videos of little substance if it feels like jumping on a trend, you know? It's a dilemma I'm faced with... but all of that aside, there's no question that indigenous canadians have dealt with a lot of discrimination, and in many ways continue to.

Tony Robbins is a fraud...but isn't that par for the course today? I bought a CD series of his and listening to it, it made no sense at all. It's all double speak and rambling. I proudly sent it back. You can sell people anything these days and they will lap it up.
