@@eamonnarasaratnam7213 99 can consider a fold here. If someone had AA and it check to the river and JJ bet 5, you can consider a fold. You consider all options all the time. He chose the wrong option.

This is such a results oriented evaluation. He’s getting direct odds to set mine and should be fist bumping pushing in his stack after the flop. If you lose then quietly reload and hope for a similar opportunity.

With that action, it is definitely not a fist-bump get it all-in. Probably should call, but with a check raise followed by an all-in, you have to be dumb to not at least consider your options.

@@nikolaykomissarenko7822he didn’t say it was a good fold. He said “consensus was all in on the flop”. I think most people agree it’s an all in on the flop despite the fact hero ends up being against the nuts drawing to one out. Which is clearly not results-oriented.

I've played 200 hours this year and flopped less than 10 sets... you will have to pry a set from my cold dead hands to get me to fold here.

the guy who smooth calls 22 next in after a prf, then calls the inevitable squeeze is not usually also the guy that folds his flopped set.

If I get to the flop, I'm piling it in. That is almost as close to a dream flop for a set of 2s with no club as you're going to get. I didn't call preflop to fold a set and if it's set over set, so be it. Easy to say since it's not my money I guess. But I play at Parx and I couldn't lay this one down.

So the short version is hero plays stupid preflop with 22 and gets in a 3bet pot with them multiway. He drills his only 2 outs he could hope for and then folds. He ends up being "right"

I have a personal mantra, don't fold flop sets even if there's a bear in the poker room

There has been an epidemic of high value to risk preflop calling...and they hit, then fold.

Yeah this reminds me of the other recent hand where the guy slow played KK pre vs multi-way action and ended up folding the best hand post after villain blasted off with QQ

Just last week I was playin g $1/$3 at MGM National harbor. Button raises to $18 (standard raise) small blind calls and I’m in big with 22 with one other limper. Many times, I might have folded but told myself to call because there will be 4 players in pot. I flip quads on a 2 2 3 flop and get value on every street and win the $400 high hand. It’s game dependent, but with 3 people in, I’m usually calling out of position.

Fold pre, both times. /end hand

I feel like this was 15 minutes of a caller trying to explain why he made a nice play. My experience is that people are too results oriented to learn when they happen to win. This call isn't dissuading me from that view.

With the action on the flop it is a fold for me. Well played. Best possible situation after the flop action would have been playing against an overpair and a flushdraw but a set is more likely imo.

This is silly. I'm constantly looking for these spots. I ship on the flop 100% without any stress whatsoever. Get in potential high equity spots and get my stack in. It isn't complicated. Edit: (I wouldn't make his flop play with 22)

Had quad 2s twice. Both late position and ended up going all in. This has nothing to do with the call. I just wanted to brag about making money with 22 😎

Wait, he hit exactly what he hoped for and folded? Hell no. I love pocket 2s and 3s because no one sees it coming. Sometimes you lose but it's a plus EV play.

I had this happen at 1-2, except no possible draws. Me with bottom set flop action goes check, I bet, raise, back check raise. No likely 2 pair possibilities, easy fold. I had the third best hand.

Too often, I find myself afraid to bluff the river when it's checked to me even though I know it will get the job done.

I haven’t played live in a while, but the “real world” value of the money matters in my experience. They play low stakes to fold their garbage, but over raise their big hands thinking it’s getting value. Now if the entire table is raising 5x, that’s fine too.

I call flop, the pot will be building-you don’t need to raise. I then shove after it is check-raised and shoved. If you are over-set, well that happens… if you just call here, and the ten of clubs comes-he’s got a chance of folding KK or AA

I would do a soul read and check what kind of player he is.

No doubt. Worked out this time. I guess two all ins in front depending on earlier action I could MAYBE find a fold if I thought I was against TPTPK with nut flush, but pre-flop that line makes no sense. My guess is the guy who mucked had QQ or KK.

Saturday night I was playing 1/2 nlh. I was card dead the entire 3 1/2 hours I played. I got 1 set and 1 flush. Other than that I was lucky if I hit 2nd pair. Which most of the time I was holding onto 2nd pair I was getting big bet shoved on rivers. I folded all but 1. The one I did call I managed to take down about a $200 pot. All the rest I folded. I ended the night feeling like I was playing scared all night. But at the same time I feel like if I would have made more hero calls I probably would have lost.

I did fold a couple of sets on a 3 way flop a few times after 3 or 4 bet shoves involving all 3 players. SPR of 5 on the flop really invites for a shove though... It really depends on the players and the board ofc... Even folded middle set once (and was correct, though a straight was possible). If I recall correctly I was correct every time when I folded (sadly not when I called).

I thought about what I would do after I saw the post flop betting. My decision was fold. I accept that it may not be the optimal decision however my thought was this. The strength of betting suggested at least one higher set. And if not what am I up against given there would be 2 other hands against my bottom set. The best I could really hope for was 2 overpairs which I discounted as I thought the preflop betting would be greater. So I’m probably at best up against 2 combo draws. So the number of cards I would have to fade would be massive, and that’s if one of them isn’t sat with JJ or 99 which I expect. Accept the 110 preflop loss and move on. Statistically it may be wrong but I either write off 110 or I stick in the remaining 1600 when it seems like a terribly spot, and I would choose the former. Not necessarily playing scared, it’s just that poker is a game of imperfect information and the information I have this time screams Get the hell out of there.

I wouldn't worry about set vs set when there are so many combo draws. Lots of bros would get wild with over pairs like Bart says and lots of guys would go nuts with a flush draw and two over cards so a ton of combinations some guys might try and play aggressively at lower stakes. Even something like KQ of clubs is a gut shot two over cards and a flush draw. All of that being said a lot of the solvers don't like flatting in position with small pairs because of the increased set over set situations you put yourself in calling with a pair that is smaller than any pair the opener opened so a lot of times 22 - 55 are treat differently. Putting this through PokerSnowie it wants you to fold 99s here and 3-bet TT preflop... that is probably too snug for the ranges you're realistically up against though. The solver thinks this is a slam dunk call on the flop.

Funny thing is Bart could tell this guy over and over again that he made the wrong fold but in that guy's brain he avoided a MASSIVE loss and some part of his mind will think he made a genius fold - he WILL seriously consider folding sets in the future. This hand is like an incubator for nits.

I'm a bit late to the party, but there are a few things going on here. Preflop is a fold. If it was a 4x open, then yes calling is fine; if hero was on the button to the 5x raise, then calling is fine; if hero had 66, or 55, or even 44, then yeah why not call. But this is the nut worst pair, without the luxury of great odds or position. Then there's a smallish squeeze and a call and now it's a clear call to the squeeze. SB check means little, a lot of players are going to check their entire range here multiway. I prefer to fastplay the flop because yes it would be nice if SB has an overpair and comes along, but if we call he's going to fold AK anyway so I'd just pile money in now. But calling must be fine. But then...there's crazy action. Not extreme-extreme, but this is check, bet, call, check-raise, 3bet jam. I just can't see SB doing this with an overpair very often, and if we back-rejam then SB will snap fold that overpair unless he's terrible. Both players have all JJ and 99. As for J9? SB isn't always going to squeeze J9s out of position - that's just going to be folded sometimes - and similarly HJ may not call a squeeze with J9s when he's going to be stuck in the middle. Giving what I think are reasonable ranges - including a chunk of nut flush draws and combo draws for each player (including Jx of clubs), sets for both, and fiddling around with some frequency of overpairs/J9, then 22 has between 24-33% equity depending on those exact ranges but I think it's probably closer to the lower end of that equity band. Working out whether we have the correct odds to call isn't trivial since the SB is still to act, but I do think that the comments saying "caller shouldn't setmine if he's going to nit-fold a set like this" are a bit overblown, I wouldn't fault hero's call/jam (not sure which is best of those two options) but I don't think a fold is bad at all.

I can't believe he's sitting here thinking about whether to shove or call when calling would leave what 400 behind in your stack? and the pot has over 3000?? Of course you jam you think villain will fold out for 400 left? lol. If he's that weird he's not giving you his last 400 anyhow. That is unless the turn card improves him to beating you. There's nothing to think about here. The fact that hero folded is just FACE PALM goodness. There's a general rule in poker you never worry about set over set unless you are OBSCENELY deepstacked.

So many draws/overvalued hands that could play this way. QQ,KK,AA especially with a club could play this way, KQ of clubs, QT of clubs, T8 of clubs, Jx of clubs all plausible hands for opponents to have.

Or J9 suited maybe 87 of clubs too. If they have one of the sets so be it but too much other stuff that we beat.

One time was playing one tooth the horseshoe in Indiana, two limps I have pocket deuces in the cutoff I go ahead and raise the 15. Small blind three bets to 40, both limpers fold I call. Flop comes queen seven deuce rainbow. He checks. I put him on queen queen as aces Kings would definitely bet and Ace King might take a stab since he three bet. I checked behind. Turn is a jack and he checked again. I was impatient so I bet and he check raised all in I called and he had queen queen. I think this is the same concept of if you call the turn and nothing changes then the impulse is to call the river as why are you calling the turn if you're going to fold the river when the board doesn't change. New information leads to new decisions.

I would flat flop cos SB is calling 100% and then either they or we get to jam turn for 700, make a 1400 sidepot and we're actually freerolling the main against a combo draw (or the rare cooler)

The high % of calls coming from Parx tells me that game is full of people who are too serious about poker for my liking🤣🤣

The turn J is not a good card if somehow made it to turn. Yeah, you stack AJ, but every two pair now beats you and the AJ has a redraw to a boat. The problem with playing tiny sets.

How does hero have the option of shoving on the flop? The All-in player on the flop does not make a full raise when jamming. His bet is only 345 more than the SB bet. It is my understanding that since it was not a full raise (would need to be another 170) the pot is not open and Hero's only decision is to call or fold. Bart seems to reference this when he says the SB does not have the option to re-raise if Hero calls. Am I misunderstanding something about the rules here? I'm having trouble finding clarification on the issue elsewhere online other than a rule stating an all-in bet is an exception to the the minimum raise amount rule.

With a pocket pair you hit a set on the flop around 11% of the time, so you need 10:1 implied odds to call, if you are completing and have the odds, easy call. Implied odds= (Total Pot+Stack remaining)/Call amount, [(245+85)+1590]/85 = 22.6:1 Just careful muliway, dont include Total stack amounts you can win because that assumes you stack both, but it does make it more likely someone can pay you. Edit: Heard Bart say 15:1, can someone explain why?

The old adage always used to be 15:1 in position to set mine. This is more than the 10:1 you quote because: (a) sometimes you’ll hit your set and won’t stack the person (because they miss with AK or it’s a gross run out) (b) sometimes you’ll hit your set and lose.

This spot is so player dependent. This could be a snap fold or snap jam. All depend on the opponents. Think there is no folds here is crazy sb has to be a bad rec

Pause the video. After the flop check by sb.then $110 bet by hj. the set of 2s has to raise to $500-$600+ this cuts thru the bull and let the others know that I have what I think is the Best hand so far.😮

I actually like the fold here. What else do you have guys check raising and shoving with.

Yes but you are just as likely to run into over sets as you are over pairs in a similar situations when there's multiple players especially with this betting action and 1 player playing to trap with a x/r and the other not only calling a x/r raise but shoving into to them. And even against combo draws you aren't very far ahead. So the only hand you are hoping for is overpairs. Unless it's two players that are in Bart words " out to lunch" I assume at best I'm in more in a flip situation with a combo draw or basically drawing to 1 card. But hey maybe I play to safe.

Yeah I’m watching the flop action and worrying that that’s what he’s going to do. If you flop bottom set on a wet board I don’t see how you can ever fold. If you’re oversetted that’s just the way it goes.

I agree with most others here - why fold when u hit your set? he called not only a raise in the CO w/ 22, but called a 3-bet, with 2 other players. Yes, he has position but as Bart said, with 22 you’re looking to pretty much only flop a set in this spot. he then hits his set, calls a bet with the Original pre-flop 3 bettor behind him, then folds. Call me a nit but even in a 2/5 game I’m folding 22 pre flop here. No offense to Scott but I believe he played this hand badly at every turn.

Folding is never an option when you flop a set. You should stop playing poker if you're going to fold a flopped set. Seriously, WTF?

Would have probably folded the deuces to a 3 bet pre-flop. I hate deuces, but once I flopped a set, he definitely would have gotten all my money.

I’ve folded three sets in the last two months on the flop in draw heavy boards. All three times it was three ways to the flop with raise, raise, all-in. All three situations was set over set. Many other times I’ve had bottom set and called. But it was nitty players that never fast play draws, no matter how high equity. If given the player type, two pairs and overpair/top pairs are highly improbable, get out the way. If it’s some loosely aggressive players, get it in.

Sigh call on the flop.
