Basic Fantasy is the best way to bring in new people! Cheap at cost only, Rich in everything else. Just the attitude of providing this rules and adventures at cost... Hail Chris!

Thanks for doing this video I also run OSRIC AD&D and also love Basic Fantasy RPG as well. I have been a DM for over 35 plus years. I love this system even more so in many ways over 5th D&D which I play as well. It's cheap and for people on a fixed income etc. And yes there are tons of extra PDFS to expand the races and classes available to download. As well as an active FB group. Again nice video.

There are expansions with more races.

Had they explained THAC0 as simply, the target's AC subtracted from 19, instead making you use charts it would have been much easier to understand.

Yes, I agree. THAC0 definitely suffered from over explanation. It could have been done so much simpler which would have helped a lot.

@@CraftDD I never thought the explanations for THACO were confusing. And I actually prefer the attack matrix tables to be honest. :)

Never used charts for THAC0 as it is ridiculously easy system.

Not sure why people find it confusing either. It probably does suffer from poor explanation. THAC0 is your target number. Roll and add your modifiers and the target's descending AC (or the DM adds that to your total if a secret) to meet or exceed your THAC0.

I'm currently running a basic fantasy west-march and I gotta say I'm actually kinda disappointing with the system as written. Most of the house rules in it are either weird or broken, the only good one I can think of is instead of having prime requisites humans get bonus exp.

But the same thing can be said about getting a high ac. As low ac taco .Also that is the basic book if you goto the website the add on are all there.

As long as I am THAC0 fan, it was best choice to pick ascending AC for this one. It has it's own feeling and flow thanks to it. Not another "you should play it this way" attitude clone. PS. Fun fact: Most people don't realise that in D&D (1974) it's the referee who make the rolls for Attributes.

I did not know that - interesting. It is a fun system to get into - and extremely rules light which is cool.

Yes it definitely is. I think I forgot to mention it in the vid, but I also like that it has active development with a bunch of resources available on the website.

@@CraftDD Yeah the website is great, everything is free and you usually have the source documents so you can edit the content to customize it for your game.
