I live in Pune and the plastic ban is real. I don't get any plastic cover anywhere. The vendors asks to put or carry in hand if I don't bring my bag.. mostly bike behind seat space.. :( it's going in the right direction and I'm happy about this ban.

I am from Uttarakhand and plastic bags were banned around 7-8 year ago in my town and it definitely works. We take a cloth bag while going shopping. But it was banned in delhi a few years ago and everyone still use plastic bag. The reason is that in my town police started fining shopkeepers, shabziwallas and people with plastic bags in hands and although they only did it for a few days people started seeing its positive impact and stopped using plastic themselves.

Plastic bans at consumer level will never work. It should be strictly regulated at the manufacturer's level only. And Clean India can be made possible only with an efficient Solid Waste Management where the wastes are converted into commercially valuable products - through plastic recycling, organic fertilizers & energy production out of bio-wastes. Strict ban is impossible in India, neither our administrative system is capable of it nor the idea is sustainable as even the municipal workers often burn the collected waste.

Plastic bags are recyclable and reusable. Government failed to do there duty for waste management. World wide plastic bags are using & managing by public & government then why not in India. Ban on plastic bags will create unemployment in Maharashtra. Loss in revenue of maharashtra government such as GST, license fees, income tax and other tax. Other industries also will affect, who are using plastic bags for packing & storing materials. Plastic bags ban is not a solution. Plastic should be manage not to be ban.

A research says that it takes 66 days (approx) of doing an activity for a human to form a habit. Maybe strict policing for 70 days perhaps might help govt get rid of plastic. Govt should create more drinking water facilities so that people may carry flasks instead of buying bottles and encourage the use of material that is used to make egg crates(recycled paper).

Tera Baap - I agree, but I think it's going to take a lot more than that though. Most retail chains don't provide plastic bags anymore which isa good that thing. The problem lies with the local vendors and average customer who finds paying 5-10 bucks as a big deal. A lot more of the attention that needs to go in educating the population of the dire consequences of using plastic and discarding it irresponsibly. Limited use, alternative material and highly efficient waste management system can bring a change which is measurable and effective. Plus no seems to wanna grow Hemp, which by far the cheapest, eco-friendly material available. Doesn't need much investment to grow but provides a high yield.

Ban is working like anything, i even recieve online orders in cloth bags, and all retailers have white thin cloth bags. Please stop spreading negativity. Let the good thing be on its own. At elast see for its operation, even vefore it started you clain it won't work. No jeed to ruin every good thing you see. Very typical Indian mentality.

BJP has been in power for a while now, why haven't they ban the production yet. If the Government can't do it then the public should stop using it. But no, we are so complacent to take the hard step and rather blame the government. Be the change you want to see.

Genie Didn't you hear in the video what they said, that in 2006 the Maharashtra government banned plastic bags and at that time it was the INCongress in power who imposed that ban in which they failed but atleast they took the step at that time! And don't blame on each other all the political parties are beads of the same necklace! The former did and failed the latter did but is also failing but like this soon it will get successful! So first learn to hear properly before commenting anything against anyone! ✌
