Why Paul Rodriguez Won’t Ever Again Work With Will Smith

One of Will Smith’s former co-stars says he’ll never work with the Oscar-winner/slapper again. Paul Rodriguez appeared with Smith in the 2001 biopic "Ali." He told Inside Edition’s Jim Moret that he experienced Smith’s rage up close and in person, and that it was terrifying. Smith packed on 35 pounds of muscle to play boxing legend Muhammad Ali. His startling transformation earned him his first Oscar nomination.

The fact that Jada Pinkett Smith openly admitted she had an affair with her son’s friend, and Will Smith didn’t get mad at that, but he slaps a comedian for making a joke because his wife gives him a dirty look, tells me what kind of man Will Smith really is.

The slap was the initial shock but the part that disturbed me the most is how he casually walked back to his seat with a smile on his face as if he was untouchable. Where was the rage and anger at that moment? It was entitlement that made him think he could put his hands on someone over words. To make things worse the expletive laced shouting from the audience was jarring for an audience of people that were previously having fun. Will ruined an enjoyable moment for everyone in that audience and they would not be wrong to ask for a refund for their ticket.

He didn’t know she had alopecia like the rest of the world didn’t. He thought she shaved her head as a look, because she shaved her head many times back in the 90s. Will laughed at the joke, while jada was rolling her eyes. “Defend” his wife over a small joke isn’t “brave.” He made himself look weak and small in front of the world for being offended over that. When the world was making a lot worse jokes all over social media about his wife cheating with a kid. He made it worse for jada, if he didn’t slap Chris the joke would’ve been forgotten, but now it will be remembered forever. If he was a real man and a gentleman he would of spoke to Chris in private. Now will’s career is taking a big hit over this, it has already made damages that he cannot fix. Now that he's "O U T out!" of the Academy, the dozens of Smith brown-nosers at the Dolby Theater who leaped from their seats to give a standing ovation when he won Best Actor . . . 'just might' be rethinking their action that night. If the Academy President and "Security" had hauled that smirking Smith out of his seat, down that long aisle, out the door, to a waiting LAPD patrol car during a commercial break, how many would have applauded that?! "Gracias, Paul Rodriguez," for boldly coming forward about one of Hollywood's 'A' stars. What a pity your dialogue was edited out AND that you were treated in such a condescending, RACIST fashion. AFTRA-SAG has all these measures to ensure a safe, clean, comfortable working environment for its members, whether on soundstages, backlots, local or distant locations and in audition rooms. Was there an Assistant Director who could reprimand Smith and tell the racist narcissist to 'cool it with the Rodriguez rant'? That action should NOT be something required of Rodriguez -- or any other cast or crew getting 'both barrels' of the 'Will Smith treatment.'

Every dog has his day, or Karma- whichever way you want to look at it. Smith finally will get payback as a pariah, & his wife too. I hope Mr Rodriguez goes on to better things & sorry he had to endure that. I know what it feels like.

That look of impunity is exactly what I felt Will Smith had in his eyes when he turned around after slapping Chris Rock. He knew that nobody would do anything to him. Will's behavior at the awards was completely deplorable and so was his treatment of Paul.

Again for all those saying Paul is coming out now because of the slap, WRONG. Paul relayed this story 6 years ago! Inside Edition is only bringing it to light again because of the relevance of the topic and what's going on in the news with Will. Paul may not be as big as Will but he sure has been in the industry a lot longer then him. The story never really got a lot of traction at the time because I don't think people really wanted to believe Will could be like that. And who was going to believe a lesser known star than Will?....well just looky now...his story actually has some relevance to it considering what Will did.

We waited to see if we could get a chance to ask for autograph. We'll after doing a walk thru to fine tune the blocking and lighting for the shot Mr Rodriguez had been told that some kids wanted to meet him. Soon as he could take 5 he came over to where we were at, talked with us, took pics, autographed stuff. When asked by PA if he wanted craft services b4 they started shooting, he declined so he could talk to us a lil longer.
