Why OSRS Will NEVER Get A New Skill! A History of Cancelled Skills Old School RuneScape
Old School RuneScape, warding. However what most of you may not know is that this is the third skill Jagex has put resources in to only to have it fail in the polls. Although warding hasn’t failed yet I won’t be surprised if it does. I’ll explain that and so much more in this video.

That's what happens when elitists who only care about two things, wealth and testicle measuring contests, get power to vote. As bad as drastic changes have been to the game, sometimes risks are a necessity to improve games. If you don't have the balls to face whatever new content brings, then you're in the way.

OSRS mobile had over 5 million downloads as of January 2019 and OSRS had a record-breaking 550,000 members in 2018 according to the 5:25 mark of the OSRS video uploaded on October 11, 2018 - OSRS Q&A - Runefest Reveals, Extended Zoom, and More!” If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it with needless content like new skills.

I love OSRS but as a community, people need to be able to accept change. Lets be honest, only reason RS3 isn't good is because of EoC, not because of the graphics or new skills or bosses. If OSRS never changes it will eventually die out and it will be our own fault. Keeping the mechanics simple and adding new skills / bosses / activities keeps the game alive.

They should make a Sailing skill. It would tie in with Construction and Fishing giving much needed vitalisation to both skills. Having a combined high Sailing and fishing level should give you access to new fish that are worth a lot of money. You would have to build you ship up like a player owned house. You could pay to have your ship located at one of the many already existing ports in the game. Having the ability to travel from port to port depending on your level. Then starting port could be Port Sarim for example. Warding sucks balls. I'm definitively voting no on it as it does not seem like it takes much effort to make compared to sailing which is far more creative and is something runescape should have had many years ago.

The chaotic crossbow doesn't even come close to rivaling the dps of the twisted bow/ blowpipe (these items out damage even the rapier w/ turmoil)(rigour is now stronger than pre-eoc too). The osrs rapier has the same attack bonus as the choatic rapier, but it's non-degradable and we now have power creep from the torture, avernic, and now gloves with kebos that did no exist pre-eoc. Warding does not "feel oldschool". It looks completely out of place and has a shit design.

The only one that shouldn't have gone through was soul split. Curse prayers and summoning could've been slightly nerfed and it would've been way better than the current state of powercreep in osrs. The problem is the poor design. A couple of magic amours to fill some niches would be great, but we don't need glorified splashing as a skill. Dungeoneering was almost an entire game within itself with amazing boss fights, fun team gameplay, and a very balanced tier system within the dungeon etc, warding just doesn't even hold a candle to it. I feel like this skill would defiantly fit into OSRS the best of any new skill, as it does not create any new end-porducts and thus does not contribute to power creep. it also feels like a skill that IS missing! crafting can create ranged armor and smithing can create melee armor so why not have a skill that can create magic? As for people comparing it to invention...that is purely ignorance or fearmongering as they are nothing alike at all. Invention is about destroying thousands of low level items to give a slight boost to high level items. Warding is about producing magic armor...

One of the major reasons invention was introduced was to provide a dump for excess equipment and items. It revitalized the economy, many areas of the game (God Wars items became important again, among many others), and also provided very useful boosts to skilling and combat. The old school team clearly wants something like that in osrs, which is why they made a big point of warding requiring you to break down equipment. Regardless of whether warding would be fun, if it it's anywhere near as effective as invention, it would be a good addition to osrs.

Max players don't vote no to new skills because they don't want to re-max. They already invested 2000+ hours in the game, what difference would a few dozen more hours for a new skill make? They vote no because newly proposed skills are unnecessary and detrimental to the game. There is a reason to vote against new skills in the game. They are poorly designed and unnecessary. The game peaks at 100K+ players every day over a year after Warding failed, clearly proving that new skills aren't needed for the game's survival.

Warding would beef it out and add a new layer to magic which is desperately needed. Just because it isn't necessary for the games survival doesn't mean it shouldn't be added. It would maybe make the game more fun, similarly to the new mini games that have been added.

If the community voted no to Warding and new skills, none of which even reached 70% approval let alone 75%, that alone is enough reason for them not be added in the game. If the combat triangle is unbalanced, then so be it. That doesn't warrant a new skill. If anything gets changed that makes the game "less like it used to be", they'll be screaming and rioting. They don't realise how a game NEEDS new content though, and a new skill brings in a huge chunk of new content. The community needs to stop wanting everything to be like they want it themselves and think about the bigger picture. It's not like a new skill would hurt them, it would only bring new content to those that do want it. According to what I've read these are the most common excuses against new skills/ especially warding... 1. People don't want to train a new skill. New skills take time and effort and add more requirements to the game (quests/diaries). - Valid opinion for personal reasons, but holds back the game. 2. The skill could be a mini-game instead. - (An excuse that goes back to #1) Also creates a larger possibility for dead content after minigame is "completed" 3. The skill could be incorporated into another skill. - (Another excuse that goes back to #1) Honestly though each skill should do one thing. The only skills that don't do just one thing are....Magic and Crafting. So yes, it appears ADDING MORE to these two skills would be very beneficial.... *insert sarcasm* 4. The skill is too complicated. - People see too many steps and run away due to complexity. Well sorry to break it to you... but Jagex has to worry about #5 people. 5. The skill is too simple. You buy things and you get exp doing a repetitive task. - Well sorry to break it to you... but Jagex has to worry about #4 people. Also, 18 other skills are designed this way. 6. The skill will just become dead content. - There have already been examples of imbuing high level items... possibly items 7. Power creep. - The skill just needs enough checks to prevent it from happening while still being beneficial to train so it won't fall into #6.

It isn't Reddit propaganda, its an actual observation that myself and many others had. That idiot was clearly pushing a disingenuous philosophy on people because that is how Jagex wants us to see it. The "item sink" isn't even that great. Destroy an addy plate for 1 addy bar was their example. At that point it is more effective to simply sell or alch the platebody for a better return. People compare it to invention which sinks items by the tens of thousands, this is not the same thing. Nothing bad can happen as its just a game, but that doesnt mean it should be added. We can't vote yes simply for mediocrity. And what longevity does it add to the game? How does this do anything positive? The only real outcome is strife in the community and pushing players away. All that being said why add it in the first place? They said it themselves, the entire skill was based off some Mod's question about the origins of splitbark. That honestly isn't enough to base an entirely new skill off of. Also why would we want to train the skill? We already have an establish infrastructure for obtaining robes. Not to mention it isnt even remotely interesting. It's just another runecrafting. Walk craft bank repeat. What exactly does that add to the game other than demystifying splitbark. People should vote no because it is a weak skill with boring content and it really adds nothing of interest to the game. Do we really want to waste dev time and divide the community over robe crafting? Just tack it on as an alternative to runecrafting because that is all it is. Say what you want about rs3 but there is a reason all the new skills in the past 10 years have been complex game changers. Atleast we would get that with artisan or sailing and not this half assed garbage.

it doesn't sound interesting to me, it sounds like fletching/crafting but with new items as resources It'll also be full of dead content. What is the point of "warding" wizard robes except for cheap xp? They're dirt cheap and will be driven cheaper when they're crafted, and it will probably not even be the best exp/hour. Jagex has no clue how to make things balanced for levels. It's like WHY does the Warrior's Guild have bronze-adamant defenders when they're literally dead content and almost pointless? They just make bronze-iron-steel-black-mith-addy-rune tiers of everything when 6/7 of the weapon grades are pointless. The same will happen for warding, there will be a lot of "use" for the skill but no point to doing it except to raise your max level and get the 90+ level rewards. until then it'll be useless.

And not just to 99. Its adding an entire 200M worth of xp in a completely new activity mind you. Also saying that there is a triangle for the making of combat equipment much like there is with the way that combat works is just wrong. Problem with these proposed skills is they aren't independent. They all branch out and require some other skills to be able to train the "new" skill. Not to mention the rewards for training such skill are negligible. Imo for a new skill to pass there has to be a tangible benefit that changes the way the game is played. Warding for example, just allows you to craft magic Armour, which isn't a big deal because you can always buy the magic armour. So there is no need to make an entire skill focused on being able to craft it. Basically this new warding skill is redundant and not necessary to the game.
