Obi-Wan and Anakin also shared in the comradery in other meaningful ways. They both commanded the clones from the front lines rather than the rear, and they would share the same sleeping quarters and foxholes with clone regulars during sieges. They valued their opinions and strategic insight when offered to them and respected them as individuals and not a tool of war. They were as much a part of their unit as they were their commanding officers.

It is pretty easy to get a large group of people with herd mentallity to think stuff. Conformists are easily manipulated and controlable. Palpatine did not even have to do that much. All he had to do was place his wood at the right spots and fan the old embers that already existed and bam dude has a bonfire. Keep in mind not all of the member spcies of the republic were of good repute. They only joined due to the benefits the republic gave them. The Jedi were peacekeepers. That means between all the member species of the republic they had to police. Your species was either helped or stopped by the Jedi or had little interaction at all. Nearly half of the republic hated the Jedi if not half or more. The republic was always a giant bomb ready to go off at any time. The only reason it lasted was that there were always more people working to stitch up the tares than those who made tares. Palpatine simply in one fell move turned all that pent up animosity into his tool and watched the republic tear itself apart.

I think that’s only an issue for Jedi that don’t have a strong enough connection to wear armor while using the force due to lack of force training and concentration. Anakin,Obiwan and Plo Koon have all shown that they can wear armor and still fight well and that’s partly because of their training in the force.

  • @SchwhatNow

I've also heard the explanation that Jedi eschewed armor because it was considered unnecessary. A jedi was to trust in the force to protect them or, when it was their time, to allow them to fall in the service of greater things. Armor was simply an impediment in that ideology because either it was unnecessary because the force would save them alone or because the force may have wanted them to die and the armor would then be actively working against the will of the force in trying to protect them. Simply put; to some the use of armor was a pathway to fear. Fear of injury, fear of death, and a lack of faith in the force.

"If you want Peace, you must prepare for War", it's a very cynical quote, but I believe there is some truth in it. The Grandmaster of the Order after the Battle of Ruson over corrected and is why they ultimately failed by the time of the Clone Wars. IMO, the Old Republic day's of the Jedi were the closet to the "best" form of the Jedi after the days of the formation on Tython, and perfected in the age of Luke.

This is a common misconception in general with peacekeepers, etc. First, you can't keep peace that didn't exist to begin with. Second, you can't call yourself peacekeepers of the conflict is getting worse and your peacekeeping actions worthless. And third, if you're not willing to engage in combat and defeat those trying to destroy the peace and create conflict, then you're worthless as a peacekeeper. It's like being a police officer but refusing, or being too afraid, to enforce the law out of fear.

Not only is he wearing armor like ours, he's wearing armor that belonged to others like us that he was friends with and carrying a piece of them through the war, being protected by his fallen comrades. Then he could retire the armor in a nice commemorative place after the war ended, probably somewhere the clone had off-handedly mentioned that they liked and wished they could have visited without the shadow of war hanging over it and omg I'm gonna make me cry at 8 in the morning with non-canon Star Wars events from my brain head 😭😭

The clone wars was the opposite of the Old Republic. In the Old Republic, the republic’s army were made to fight at the behest of the Jedi order to fight the war against the Sith Empire. It ended with the Ruusan Reformation and the Republic’s army dismantled. While the clone wars, the Jedi were made to act as generals to the clones at the behest of the Republic. Which ended in Order 66 which saw the Jedi Order forcefully dismantled.

I would imagine there's a pragmatic reason to wearing his trooper's armor: he was on the front lines with them, all the time, and needed the protection armor could afford him. He may have been a jedi, and may have been capable of deflecting blaster bolts with his lightsaber, but in the event he got careless, the armor would at least buy him a second chance.

They fight and bleed with the Jedi during the Clone Wars, especially taking down multiple critical threats towards the Republic. It also brings a unique take or trope called 'Kit-Bash' Armor; A blend of Light armor and Heavy armor pieces into a complete armor ensemble. which is very rare if not shown often in Sci-fi battles or Sci-fantasy stories, or if it was it needs to be shown more and this video is one of many prime examples.

I always viewed it as being practical in a battle. Unless there was a practical reason not to (aka the old kotor games havjng certain armor lock off your force powers) id be wearing as much armor as i could into combat. The gauntlets/ arms would be ideal balance as a "swordsman" between mobility and protection. Plus ya know, everyone needs a good pair of boots in the trenches. And between the arms and boots they end up covering most of the hugh risk joints in the process.

I most definitely remember Master Windu wearing a variation of Obi wan's clone armor during his battle in the 2004 animated series. Plo Kun also wore it. Obi wan was far from the only Jedi wearing clone armor. that would imply that he was the only general that didn’t treat his men like crap.

It always comes to my mind this topic and despites of this great video, I always thought this was also a need for protection that could be twisted (as it happened) thinking that jedis were looking more like "siths" with non-red lightsabers as in the lore there are not a few ammount of siths with robot/tech limbs or pieces to protect/enhance their capacities or for a survival reason. So, maybe using an armor also felt like jedis were "transforming" into a dark force user that could potencially becomes a sith

Though its not star wars i took inspiration from this for fallout and my scifi story. Fallout. My minutemen general would ally the brotherhood and railroad against the institute with multiple strike teams and through both sifes forming what would be called the time of unity. He was gifted the first generation if the coalition of democracies armour that utalised all the factions strengths into armour with the general being the first general of this new faction. Im going to do this for a video when i get the chance. My scifi novel- the main character during his time with a tribal people, he took inspiration from there culture which his companion from the tribe would share the same belief with the peacekeepers which she joined. So they decided to share eacjothers styles into there armours platings when they were promoted into elite troops for special missions and given new armour they modified. It wasnt thrownd uopn by the higher ups as the peacekeepers were of multiple races and cultures who all shared the same goals of peace amd order for the galexy and encouraged the different details the eilte troops would put on there armour.

Kenobi, Windu, and other Jedi who wore armor during the Clone Wars understood that if they were leading troops, those troops would respect them more and tend to follow them more readily if they endured the same dangers and tribulations as themselves. And donning armor was one of those tribulations. But also, there was a practical aspect to the Jedi who wore armor. A battlefield is a dangerous place. Jedi were not immune to getting hit by energy weapons or shrapnel anymore than the troops they were leading into those battlefields were. A Jedi might be able to stop blaster bolts in mid air, or pick up people or objects and hurl them, or choke or shove an opponent via their connection to and manipulations of the Force. But the Force was not an armor plated bubble. Just as Kenobi told Luke many years after the Clone Wars had ended. The Force surrounds and flows through objects and binds both objects AND people together. So therefore. A blaster bolt or errant piece of shrapnel on a battlefield might also be flowing through the Force and could intercept or collide with a Jedi's body, which was just as much a part of that Force flow as everything else was. And too. In a traditional sense. A knight...whether a Jedi, Sith, or anything else. Wears battle armor INTO battle. This would've been true of the very first Jedi in Star Wars lore or in real life, on our present Earth. That armor might take different forms. And in some time periods could even be as simple as religious robes or clothing. Depending on the weapons a knight might face. But it's still armor nonetheless. And a knight really isn't worthy of the title without it. It's as much a part of who a knight is as his sword or other weapons are. No matter how religious a knight is or isn't. Or whether or not they can manipulate things telepathically via the "Force" like the Star Wars Jedi can.

Mentality. On top of showing he was no better then his troops an actually respecting them as individuals seems Ole Ben was one of the good ones.

I am a big Clone trooper/ Stormtrooper fan, I think Jedi who wore Clone armor looks bad ass and looks the part of a General. I feel it makes the Jedi Generals look more Uniform and really show their equally serving the Republic as its Defenders. I love the Imperial era because everyone had a job in the Empire, a rank, a roll to play, Sith Inquisitors were similar rank to how the jedi were to the clones. It enhances the sense of meaning and purpose and also Structure and order within the Military of the Republic and Empire. And when you think of Generals, you think of them as wearing Armor and welding swords but a prestigious suit of armor or sword. It's like sign of their rank and it looks so cool!!

6:05, I appreciate you shining the light on the CGI aspect, but allow me to touch further on this, it's not really cloth animation, it's more like cloth simulation. And the reason why it costs so much is because that's actually handled by a different department that specializes with the physics and dynamics, plus the addition of lighting and rendering, this eats up a lot of GPU usage, which is already costing tens of thousands of dollars.
