I'm an MB (independent) mechanic for the last almost 15 years. I personally own a 1995 S320, and a 1998 CL600. I just love the 140, they are possibly the greatest vehicle ever made. But you MUST be fastidious about maintenance, and scrutinize every part you replace. Most new replacement components (like suspension parts for example) may look exactly like the original part, but they aren't made the same way, and they won't function the same way at all.

nice tips, i have one S320 ( 09/1993 ) that i got in 2010 with zero kms. spend a lot to reborn that unit but after 1 year was all ok. already have 7.000 kms and zero mechanic issues, zero rust.

So lucky to have bought a nice example with 68000 miles. Every stamp in the book and drives like new. One former owner, a company owner from London. They are great cars, however as you said neglected ones are a massive pain. My first one was neglected for years and Im sure I replaced half the engine bay by the time I sold it...

In august will be a year i own a W140 i got for 10k eur, and I spent another 5k by now on maintenance. 😊Ofc i could do it cheaper, some part I could leave as it is, but i do not regret any euro I spent on my toy. It is a joy of owning, and driving this car! Community of owners is also most helpful guys i've ever met!🤙

I've got a completely rust free '94 S500 with 132K miles purchased in Las Vegas. It was used as a chauffered town car for a local doctor. The only major issue I've had with the car was replacement of the dreaded "biodegradable" wiring harnesses for the engine. Other than that, it's been a dream. I also have an '88 W460 230GE SWB, a '95 SL320 Sport (also bought in Las Vegas so rust free) and an '00 CL55 AMG.

@@snggarageeng About $250 for the upper harness and $150 for the lower one. Bought off eBay and replaced them myself. It's not a difficult job, just tedious.

Для всех кому было от 14 до 18 в 90-х эта машина глубоко запала в сердце. Она олицетворяла мощь, статус, роскош, влияние. Юные ребята из 90-х давно выросли и состоялись в жизни. На чем бы они не ехали увидив в авто потоке w 140 невольно обращают внимание с детским восторгом смотря на w140. Содержание его не дешево особенно если v12. И хотя машина обсолютно подгодна для ежедневного использования но как то жалко. Больше для выходного дня. На этой машине не хочится гонять, а просто плавно передвигаться. По крайней мере мне. Плавность хода не знаю с чем сравнить. С Роллс-Ройс Фантом? Но он жоще. В любом случаи машина очень приятная если технически исправна.

most problem related W140 : rust wiring harness ECUs ECU some capacitors must change SLS Suspension --> Accumulators very rare thats all in my experience (i have two --> 1st gen 6/1991 and the second 8/1998)

w140 is just reliable can drive infinite mileage, just need to maintain like normal car, in great britain all 140 have good engine and fuel system, we use only 96+ octane fuel and we have 98-105 octane fuel, we have mercedes benz factories here that give you original parts, you go there and order and they send it to you for good price.

I have w126 sec , great car ( only 93k), and w 140 s500 , ,350sd ,300 turbo great cars ... They don't make cars like that.. All new ones are Junk made cheap to work with alot of problems , for 3 / 5 years...
