I have the s&w 43c that I carry from time to time mainly for the reasons you stated. 8 shots, super light, easy to shoot, and works well with summer dress. Only problem I'm too ashamed to tell anyone I carry a 22lr, but then again I don't tell anyone I carry a gun anyway. Good video.

How's the trigger on it, compared to LCR?

Need more guys like you! 2 minutes of solid info. Most other guntubers this would be a 17 minute video with half the info.

I'm a retired police officer from a large city here in Texas and I have seen a lot of people killed with a 22 pistol and the ones that weren't killed were down and not ready to get up and run a foot race. Yes its a deadly round and don't let anyone tell you it isn't. Do I carry one ....yes, do I feel under gunned no . I know what this little round can do because I have seen it first hand. I still carry my .45 sometimes but most of the time its my snub nose 2 in revolver in 22lr.

Great gun! My unscientific test of the new Federal .22lr Punch "self defense " round was impressive. I fired a Velocitor and a Mini-Mag into two large, wet hardcover books. They both penetrated through 600 pages. The Punch round blew through all 800 pages, exited the back of the second hardcover book and then went right through a 1 gallon jug of water! Next time I'll compare it to a solid round, instead of HP!

Great video. I have a number of LCR's. I carry the LCR9mm, train with the 22.cal (which by the way is my favorite Plinker of all time and I own many 22'cals. I never considered a 22 for carry, until recently which shooting. My gosh 8 fast rounds of that stuff into face and neck etc. would screw up any ones day. And since it is 22.cal you can get a whole lot of training in very cost effectively. I have been shooting for decades and never realized you would not get the blast as you showed. Bravo for a great video. PS the LCR22 will seldom get any failures. Using good quality ammo and you are good to go.

People say carrying a 22lr is useless but if an attacker comes at you and you put two in his face is he going to be worrying about you or his face

I too carry an LCR in .22lr. love this little pistol. I really like your deep carry rig. Probably going to copy you on that...... Better than what I do now (pocket carry Inna DeSantis Pocket Nemisis holster). I am a huge advocate for .22lr for EDC defensive use. For 6 primary reasons. Just what I could think of off the top of my head. 1) The ammo is cheap and plentiful. You can practice, practice, practice for a 1/4 of the price of 9mm. 2) The pistols are generally less expensive. 3) The pistols are light and easily concealed. Most modern .22lr pistols are just a reliable as .380/.38/.357/9mm/.40/.45 counterparts. Especially the revolvers. 4) Zero recoil. Which leads to faster follow up shots. Zero recoil also leads to higher confidence levels which leads to higher proficiency especially among less experienced shooters. 5) Show me anyone who is willing to take a .22lr to the chest to prove the little underestimated round will "just piss them off" and I will show you a dead fool. There is extensive statistics that show that the .22lr is by far one of, if not, the most lethal round carried and used. 6) If needed, the .22lr EDC pistol can be used to take small game in a survival scenario.

A bouncer that I used to work with got shot 3 times in the chest at point blank range with an NAA mini revolver chambered in .22 (not sure if lr or mag) and he still beat the absolute piss out of the guy that shot him. Of course this was a 6'3" 275 pound power lifter, not some average Joe, but still, I don't think the story would have gone the same way if it was a .380 or bigger. Not trying to trash the pocket pistol, I personally carry a baby browning .25 auto, but only as a backup to my Glock 19.

22 mag more potent and not bad recoil. But only 6 shots in the Ruger.

There is one reason why I didn't buy the Ruger LCR 22lr . It is because I already have a LCR in 327 Fed Mag on which I run 32 S&W Long. It has almost no recoil with the same footprint, but with a little more power. The big plus for the LCR 22lr is that you will love the price for the ammo on the LCR 22LR and get plenty of practice with placing accurate shots.

My father left me a Smith & Wesson 30-01 32 caliber revolver. Its in almost new condition made in about 1955. The price of the ammo 32 S&WL was 80 cents a round ! Only one place in Florida had them over a year ago. They just don't make them anymore. Ammo cost / availability alone should be the Number ONE Factor before even Buying a firearm today. Consider you should always practice with the firearm you plan to carry !

I carry mine every day. Also carry to speed loaders. Gun and loader #1 loaded with Federal Punch 22LR, and loader #2 with CCI quiet 22LR. Nice to have a hearing safe option for shooting.

My primary is usually the 327 LCR. Easy to run and not punishing.

Absolutely agree on everything said. Have same Ruger LCR.22 LR. It's one I Carry daily and basically for good reasons, personal. It's great velocity in CCI stinger and aguila maximum velocity. A good self defense gun for shoot and go .

I run the exact same setup. Really like the speed strips, and I love this little revolver. The strips have hardly any footprint. Of course they aren't quite as fast as a speed loader, but I can't see myself carrying that extra bulk. Besides, getting a reload off in a self defense situation is a bit optimistic anyway, but it's nice to have just in case.

The biggest selling point for me was the "cheap and therefore fun to shoot" aspect which just translates to tons of trigger time and rounds down range. Frankly... I'm better with my .22lr than I am with any other gun I've owned... and I don't just mean "better"... I mean stoopid better... like intuitive trick shot point shooting better... like when I was a kid and got my first BB gun and spent damn near every day ALL summer and fall out back by the tree line plinking cans better. Just my opinion... but THAT kind of familiarity/confidence with a gun has got to translate positively to self defense scenarios.

That's my kind of better. I Feel bad now but I used to hunt birds sometimes with my pellet rifle when I was a kid. Before that I shot one down with my wrist rocket. We used to play war in the woods. We'd wear thick clothes and put goggles on. We were only allowed to pump bb gun once but it sure felt like 2 pumps sometimes. Dirty rascals. 😂

@@judgesfiveeight hahaha. Ouch 11? We did crazy things back then. Rock fights was fun until a neighbor threw a palm sized and perfectly timed throw right when I raised up from cover. Put a pretty good knot on my noggin. We used to shoot bottle rockets at each other too. I don't know how we made it through all of those days without putting someone's eye out. Then we would lay down and take turns jumping over each other with dirt bikes. Boy were we dumb. We would climb up the power tower in my backyard and all kinds of crazy stuff. Some how we survived. Then we raced our Dodge Chargers. I thank be God for getting through my youth in one piece. Not everyone is so fortunate. Some people I went to High School with died in car wrecks.

.22 snub for a fight and a rifle for a gun fight is a concept i've been thinking about more and more. In a self defense senario you are in fist fight ranges so mma training and a small 22 revolver if lethal force is required makes more sense. If you are in a real gunfight a rifle is what you want so a truck gun makes more sense. 9mm double stacks are a kind of mid point on that scale and as a result make sense if you don't want or can't spend the money on a small revolver and a truck gun. Lucas from Trex arms has even mentioned that he carries his glock 17 mostly for active shooter response and that it isn't a great option for most self defense senarios, as very rarely will you be able to draw and fire without being shot first. A sub second draw does nothing for you with a gun inches from your temple.

Yes good! SW351c is a .22mag 7shot. Super light fits in jogging shorts with ClipDraw on it.

As a former law enforcement officer I can attest to the fact that .22 is far from the best choice to carry. There is a reason professionals such as law enforcement officers do not carry .22 firearms. It’s definitely better than nothing and may stop someone with the first shot depending on where the round hits but their is also a very good chance it will not immediately take out a determined attacker. I have seen bad guys get struck with 9mm hollow points and they were as good as dead, they were experiencing major internal bleeding and would be dead in minutes. The problem is there has been incidents where the bad guy full of adrenaline already shot and going to bleed to death in minutes continues the fight and ends up fatally shooting the officer before succumbing to their injuries. That’s after getting hit with a 9mm round, can you imagine how ineffective a .22 could be in a gun fight. If you are talking about an unarmed mugger a .22 is most likely going to make them stop, they would be crazy not to. But if you got into a gun fight with a determined attacker you would be at a huge disadvantage using a .22 round. I won’t even get into how unreliable Rimfire cartridges are. There is no reason not to carry something with more power. If someone has a hard time with recoil, etc. they simply need to train. I see no upside to carrying a .22 Rimfire when there is so many better options for stopping power, reliability, etc. a .380 ACP centerfire would be a much better choice than .22 if someone wanted a smaller round. Again, there is a reason police do not carry .22, it simply does not have reliable stopping power of a determined attacker who is shooting at you.

Curios which fiber optic you used for the LCR 22lr front sight. HIVIZ says that they don't have one for the 22lr of 327 Fed Mag. I have heard that it will fit but that it will alter the sight picture because the trajectory of the .22lr is slightly different than the .38/.357.

Interesting video. I imagine by now you must have tried the CCI Uppercut ammo. I' d like to know what kind of holster allows to switch between normal and deep concealment. Cheers!!!

@@themetermaid7758 the 351c is a pretty decent little gun, and the .22mag gains at least 100fps in velocity in almost every loading over what the .22lr can do. If you can find them the .22mag Gold Dot is a really capable loading.

@@themetermaid7758 in an ideal world I'd have both. In .22lr you have to pick your ammo carefully for snubs, not all of it gets going fast enough to penetrate sufficiently, whereas most of the .22mags do fine in my observation of testing. My go to .22lr snub loads are Velocitors, Stingers, and Mini Mag HHPs, in that order, several of the other available loads can be OK to, like Federal Auto Match, Mini Mag solids, etc. , but the first three are definitely the best choices. You lose one round from the .22lr going to the .22mag in the S&Ws, 2 rounds in the Ruger LCR.

If the shells stick, the chambers have a hard carbon ring inside. Clean it often and thoroughly.

This is one of the final two guns on my buy list for all of the reason that you mentioned.

I had been thinking to myself "how much more can 22WM cost... 1.5x? 2x?" Then I looked it up and saw the light. I have a .338WM A-Bolt that I am never going to fire much less hunt with, so I am seriously contemplating trying to sell that and get a .22lcr or 43c. I will go over your and other's discussion of the pros and cons of each many times before I make a choice though. I want to be mostly practical for once.

@@Hugatree4me I am in small town WY, where for EDC, conceal-ability is not an issue. I wanted a pajama gun though. Anyway my experience will be of no use to you since I ended up getting an LCP Max and hand-loading 68gr Lehigh extreme defense bullets for it. I didn't find it too snappy with these loads but did experience occasional failures to feed with the Lehigh bullets getting stuck on the ramp about 1 out of 150 rounds (never the first of course). For a pajama gun, I accepted this risk. Because of the reliability issue I wouldn't do it again though.

In 22 you get adequate penetration or fragmentation/expansion. There’s not enough energy for both.

I carry the smallest 22lr on the market 😂. Its like an extremely strong fist.

I got the 43c for its insanely light weight. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. The only question is whether or not the 3oz weight savings is worth the extra 200 plus bucks.

I would think practicing with bulk .22lr there would be some misfires, and with 'better' .22lr the misfires would be very few and far between...that is why when we carry .22 it always 'better' ammo, and in a revolver...'squeeze the trigger again' the fastest, simplest response under duress and the odds of back to back misfires pretty slim...

my understanding that the lcr has a lighter trigger pull, by almost half, if you're still wondering. I purchased a 43c because the weight savings was top priority for me.

Going to a .22 revolver myself. I currently edc a S&W 442, but training with it is not cheap, nor fun. After about 50 rounds of .38 special I’m ready to pack it in for the day. I’m 39 years old and in my almost 40 years I’ve never even had to draw a firearm as a civilian and the likelihood is I never will. I don’t go to sketchy places and I don’t stay out late. The older I get the more I’m starting to realize that the caliber debate is largely nonsense outside of police or combat applications. It’s become more of a marketing tool by gun manufacturers for the “tacticool” crowd to be able to puff their chest and say that they carry 9mm or above. I love the S&W J frame platform. Any experience with the S&W 43c compared to the LCR .22?

I bought the sw airlite in 22mag. 7 rounds. Does it accomplish full effect of 22mag? Obviously not, but still real good. Expensive but I expect it to retain value. Only downside is 12lb trigger pull in double action. Don’t care because I shoot most revolvers in single action anyway. Nice vid. 22 imho will end almost all citizen self defense issues anyway. I’m not chasing bank robbers down the street.

Not at all, but if I wore some of the clothes I see people wearing, I would t be able to carry anything comfortably. What works: Stretch jeans. Mid to high rise. Sized for me AND the gun. Try Wrangler 4way stretch from walmart

​@@t3r083my BRAND NEW 43C has to go back to S&W because it refuses to fire four to five rounds out of the cylinder. A $750 pistol doesn't work out of the box. WTF? I mean brand new! That's why I go with my LCR 22 LR. 4,000 + rounds and zero issues. I love my S&W revolvers and my Ruger revolvers. That 43C is a total piece of crap. At least the one I have.

The Biggest Iron thanks for watching! for terminal ballistics, I agree with you, it would be a win. For cost and availability it would be a loss. When you can find the stuff, it isn’t cheap. For reliability, I would say it’s a wash. This particular pistol now has 3200 rounds of CCI velocitor, blazer 38gr and blazer 40gr through it without a single malfunction. That is insanely reliable. It’s more reliable than all of the auto pistols I’ve ever owned.

My wife picked out the same one for herself. No upper body strength and a bad shoulder that had two surgeries.

While I love your content and understand your points- I gotta say: Your preference is your preference but picking a 22lr revolver, snub nosed or otherwise, for serious self defense is not a good idea- for multiple reasons. 1.) Even the best quality 22lr ammo will have more frequent failures than any centerfire rounds which is a bigger liability given the reduced capacity of a revolver. 2.) The anemic power of 22lr has been explained to death on the internet. An incredibly short barrel will not help that factor- the non-existent recoil and muzzle blast don't seem like valuable tradeoffs when heavy clothing or bone deflection could compromise what might be a downed target with a bigger caliber. 3.) When micro compact 9mms with capacities of 10 or more rounds exist the weight savings of a snub 22lr become negligible when you could have a comparable weight with greater capacity, firepower, and a lighter trigger pull- not to mention better sights. Even if you prioritize shot placement over round effectiveness there's no denying that regardless of how much you train or how good of a shot you are that in a real life self defense situation your stress will be higher and your preparedness lower than any simulated exercise leading to poorer accuracy. Knowing that's the reality why not make the choice that decrease the possible margin for error i.e.: carry a bigger, more reliable round or a reliable auto loader?

If I was making the jump to a six round gun, I’d go with a 32cal like a 327fed LCR. a large benefit of the 22lr Snubby is 8 shot cylinders. 22 mag isn’t offering substantially more in a Ruger barrel (confirmed in gel test comparisons)

@@JimRedHawk Penetration is worse than my CCI Velocitor 22lr. 22mag stringer fail FBI minimum penetration threshold. 22lr Velocitor easily pass out of my LCR

Does the Ruger suffer from less problems than the 43c?

Not sure on the holster, but I think it's the enigma chassis system, most reputable kydex holsters work with that rig.

@@rustwins4442 further research tells me he currently uses an enigma with a city special holster, he previously used a smart carry which he modified by adding a cheap kydex holster
