Why Marvel is WINNING - Analysis

Ойын-сауық

Marvel, DC, two companies that are getting their fingers deep into the world of film. But Marvel is doing a lot better than DC. Idiots would say it's that critics are being bought, but if you really analyze the films, then you'll see what's really going on. Here a few movies are analyzed and we'll uncover just why Marvel is doing a lot better than DC.
This video is meant to educate but can also be consider a bit satirical.
If you have a different opinion, that's fine. But if you actively bash me for having a different opinion than you, well then we'll all see how much of an idiot you are. Thanks for the view!

Why is Marvel ''winning'' in the movie department? Because they: 1).took time to give all the major characters their own movies, thus establishing them, their traits, their place in the Cinematic Universe and relationships to the other characters. When Cap is fighting Tony,in Civil War,it has an impact to the viewer, who is watching all their previous movies and knows their relationship, unlike in BvS,where the viewer has no connection to Sups and Bats. 2).they know how to make a movie, that fits for the specific character.Winter Soldier was a serious spy-thriller,while Guardians of the Galaxy was a funny space-opera and Dr.Strange was a trippy fantasy. They also, gave Netflix their more ''street-level'' heroes, like DD or Punisher,in order to turn them into more mature tv-shows,instead of forcing them into their movies. 3).They have Kevin Feige in charge.A guy who has a vision and the ability to cast the right people, actors directors, writers for the job and is willing to take some chances. When he hired RDJ as Tony Stark, everybody was turning their heads in Hollywood(at that Point RDJ was pretty much done, careerwise) or when he gave James Gunn,a guy who previously directed low-budget Horrorcomedies, free reign to do the Guardians. DC/Warner on the other hand, was milking the success of Nolan's Batman movies and didnt care to establish their other characters in movies. After watching how much money,Marvel made, they decided :''we want a cinematic universe of our own and we want it NOW!'' ,completely ignoring that Marvel took years to get where they'are now. They also made the mistake of putting Zack Snyder in charge,a guy who clearly doesn't understand the characters. He turned Batman into a caped Punisher,Lex Luthor into a cross between The Joker and Jim Carrey's Riddler and Superman is just a miserable fuck.Add to that the fact, that the studio execs are interfearing with how the movies are made(reshots, new cut, more reshots, another cut) and you get clusterfucks like Suicide Squad or JL.

William Clayton Problem is people often listen to critics, even if sometimes just sub-consciously. That's why The Thing (1982) and Fight Club got completely ripped apart by critics and audiences when they released in cinema... it wasn't till home release they started getting the recognition and following they deserved until eventually critics changed their opinions, followed by the sheep that listen to them. As for Infinity War, yeah it's great but: 1). It was announced as a 2 parter so the end was fairly predictable, knew it was coming the second they announced it. Good movies shouldn't be predictable. 2). As a comic fan, there is still a LOT of issues I have with it... it won't make me dislike the movie though. Iron Man putting up a better fight against Thanos than Hulk? nah mate, never gonna happen.... Thor: Ragnarok was entirely pointless as it was to show Thor he not only didn't need a hammer but was more powerful without it, then Thanos shows up and now he needs another hammer/axe? WHY? Lets also talk about "Civil War", "Age of Ultron", "Thor: Ragnarok" (or Planet Thor as I call it... stealing one of Hulks best stories just to make him a fucking support character in a comedy).... do you think ANY of those movies are representative of the comics they are named after? What about the huge oversight between Civil War and Black Panther?.... T'Chaka was already deciding to join the worlds stage, that's why their people died in Lagos, and it was what his speech was about before he died. They make a big deal of T'Chaka wanting to keep Wakanda separate and hidden in BP, despite Civil War showing the opposite. The MCU is far from perfect, but the fanboys will always ignore legit criticism.

Another comic fan critics on movie. And blame the the flaw to the ignorance of movie fan. In the end, the important is how many people enjoy the movies. If the admission were slight lower than the compared one or the ratings and critics are average, but when many people talks about it in class, workplace and in the internet or social media in favorable way, that is the true victory for this which is better debate. Comic fans should debate within their own fan club and not throwing tantrums to other than theirs in the comment section of video that talks about movies and not comics.

I recently re-watched Thor 2, and I really really don't get why so many people dislike it so strongly. Yeah it wasn't anything special, and had some structural, pacing, and tone problems. But it had more than enough super effective things to make it worth the time I spent watching it, even if it isn't ever making it into my permanent blu-ray rotation or anything.

Conner Lucas Absolutely! They brilliantly utilized that coincidence from the comics in helping Batman begin his healing from his darkness. Dude's been through so much (losing a Robin, Batgirl and several coworkers/employees to torturous murder, traumatically induced paralysis and severe injuries/deaths resulting from an attempted alien invasion that was going to result in the genocidal extinction of humanity). In the moment of realizing that Superman is a son simply frantic for the safety of his mother and that he also has a loving companion who's willing to risk her own life for his is so emotionally moving. And Batman realizing that as he's about to sever the mother/son bond by his own hand in killing Superman- which forces his reliving his own parents' deaths and realizing that he is now the mugger- is brilliant. .

I instantly understood the Martha scene as they intended it to be. Its absolutely natural for Batman to react that way.His hole life was some sort of retaliation for his past. So in the moment of high emotion, when your enemy says the name you think about, it can be a name that its not rare, it can be Joe or Mike or what ever, you will react in that moment instantly-thats for sure. Its done in very subtle way and very realistic way that I congradulate people wwho managed to recognize that detail in human psyche. One mistake was that they didn't gave Batman a moment to reevaluate his actions. All bias aside-but superhero fans especially Marvel movies fans are not very mature people and are not very competent in judging quality of the movie as it is. Construction of the BvS was pretentious in a way that they thought that comic book movie fans can comprehend small details. My advice to superhero movie producers and directors would be that they don't put too much dept and complexity in their movies-After all those movies represent people who are fighting crime dressed like idiots-When you put dept in something like that you are in the middle ground-People who love true cinema-wont go watch that movie and people who like superhero movies will expect something like Marvel-Light comedy, everyone survives, lots of actions and very bad yet self aware screen writing.

The problem is simple, Marvel started their cinematic universe with solo films, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, then they brought on something that had never been done before, a team up superhero film of four heroes (6 if you count Widow and Hawkeye). But DC didn't build it up, they had one solo movie and then a team up movie with two characters we hadn't gotten to know. Only then, they bring out a solo movie about Wonder Woman that should have come out before BvS. I know they're trying to accelerate their cinematic universe to catch up with Marvel but if they do that they'll keep making bad movies, because there's no structure, no character development. It's like comparing a concrete block to a pile of dirt. One is strong and well built, the other is weak and collapsable.

Exactly. Marvel is blazing the trail. Warner Bros saw the boat loads of money Marvel was raking in and just jumped, ('cause you don't want to miss a fad!) All prep they did was think to themselves that people liked the Dark Night Trilogy so lets give them more of that, and green-lit a bunch of gritty films assuming they would be awesome. Fans gave them a shot. MoS and BvS people turned out for despite the fact that WB clearly didn't understand the characters the were mangling. The negative reviews started to spook WBros who decided to change course midstream by 'Guardians of the Galaxying'-up Suicide squad. But all they really did was create a confusing mess that didn't know what it was suppose to be. People were still going but they were starting to figure out that WBros was just serving up ill conceived garbage designed to take their money rather than executing on someones artistic vision. By the time JL was released, a good chunk of the people had just had enough and stayed home. A lot of the Marvel movies are not that great to go back to, but at the time they were something new and fresh. DC was late to the party and made copycat movies that were not great and worse, people had seen it before. Marvel took their time and built to a payoff. Infinity war is going to have a completely bonkers number of characters and people are going to know who they are, understand their motivations, and actually care about them because of the groundwork Marvel laid starting a decade ago. DC tried to jump to the teamup with characters that people now disliked (Batman, Superman) because the previous movies had basically made them into giant douches, or characters they had never heard of like Cyborg. Or took a character like Flash with a popular TV show and threw that out in favor of a new guy. Then they ticked off half their audience with creepy upskirt camera work around Wonderwoman and finished it off with weird tonal shifts because they STILL are trying to wedge the latest trend into their slap-dash product.

And you think that was an oversight from DC, turns out it wasn't. It was DC choice to build their cinematic universe like that because they didn't want to copy Marvel. So instead of introduce their heroes by using the same strategy as the competence which as you can see, it was really effective NO they had to try with the opposite option which was wrong. Pride is certainly stupid.

I agree. A major problem is that DC clearly went into this with no clear cut plan for their cinematic universe. The fact is that Marvel was the first to market with this idea, and they clearly put a lot of thought into what they did. Now, has Marvel changed some of their plans along the way? Yes, case in point Spiderman: Homecoming. The difference is that Marvel had a plan to begin with and they stick to it fairly well. DC is just all over the place (how many movies have they announced and then taken off the table, case in point Justice League Pt. 1 & 2) and they have no direction or story they're telling or anything else.

Best thing you can do is realize the person who posted is probably a child and not assume every reasonable person thinks that way. Stop letting children work you up and get you upset lmfao.

They're fun summer popcorn flicks. But with the DC movies- ya can't miss a single line of dialogue or it could completely alter your perception of that film and the franchise as a whole. They're so intelligent in their writing, their characterizations, their visual storytelling- they're so amazingly brilliant. .

Honestly I think one of many problems DC has is wrecking their characters. Like how Batman turned from a dark and super edgy Punisher in batsuit into a comic relief in Justice League. I also have to say that I couldn't be more disappointed in Man of Steel. They basically took one look at the popularity of Batman movies and went "Yeah let's go with that for Superman". They took Superman, the most optimistic, hopeful and inspiring superhero around and shoved all the edge and darkness they could down his throat. Pa Kent telling him it was better to let those kids drown, letting himself DIE traumatizing Clark in the process, the whole Jesus/God symbolism being shoved down our throats. This is not Superman, this is Batman in alternative skin. Not to mention how they made Kryptonians look like morons, from what I know it's usually Brainiac who convinces the Kryptonians that their planet is okay while he himself is preparing to haul ass out of there.

The main reasons are these: *The Villain is AWFUL. Easily the worst MCU Villain. Its boring, flat, forgettable and very poorly written. Its just bad because the script says it. *The comedy (at least in my opinion and in the opinion of many others) is Pretty damn bad and cringe. I just laughed 2 or 3 times in the entire movie. *The movie itself is pretty boring and forgettable. *Thor has no character arc in the movie and i found him just meh as a protagonist. *Thor and Jane Foster have no chemistry. *Loki, a co-protagonist is more interesting and compelling than the actual Protagonists. *There is no sense of danger and urgency in the movie, and it supposed that the entire universe is in danger. *The writting is a bit messy. Actually i dont think thor 2 is awful and is certainly more competent than BvS or Suicide Squad but i think the movie is pretty mediocre and one of the weakest MCU film but Thats just my opinion and if you liked it, good for you 👍

I have an issue with the characterisation of Clark Kent (which has been discussed to death), but there are also other flaws. Such as Jonathan Kent's stupid decision making. Telling Clark not to save drowning children is one thing, letting himself die to keep Clark's cover is ridiculous especially since Clark could just run over to him and say it was a "miracle" that they both weren't blown away. Of course, a character being stupid is allowed but the way they make this into an internal part of Clark's struggle is what I dislike. Plus the fact that Lois ended up appearing wherever the plot needed her to be was really contrived because at times it made no logical sense (like her being brought onboard the ship). It's stuff like that I would refer to as flaws, they don't make the movie bad but they lessen my enjoyment for the movie a bit.

the problem with doomsday wasn't that he never felt like a threat but that he shouldn't have existed or at least been created by lex... lex's entire goal during the film was to show superman was evil (if he's all powerful he cant be all good) but when batman fails to kill him (superman being what lex equates to a god) he creates a more powerful and more unhinged version of superman... making the entire point that superman could potentially kill everyone if he wanted to, moot, because now there is an even bigger threat that actually does want to kill everyone... making lex's plan fucking stupid and nonsensical

He somehow saw this happeneing before hand and like always made a backup plan. Doomsday. The Monster was out of control. This he didn't plan.

  • @pittland44

My bigger problem (not to say your point is invalid it's right on the money) is with Lex himself. Why is Lex acting like the bastard child of Daffy Duck and Jim Carrey's Riddler? Now, if you want a reason why Lex is going crazy, there are precedents for that in the comics, one being clone Lex (when the clone does have his hair back) and some variant of that could have worked just fine. Another is the Kryptonite poisoning that several versions of Lex (including the DCAU Lex in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited) and instead of cancer, or even because of it with radiation or a brain tumor or whatever, Lex is slowly going nuts, all of those could work and actually work easily and well but you have to explain that. That was my biggest problem with BVS, we have all this crazy stuff happening, but absolutely none of it gets explained and the whole thing comes across as a muddled, incoherent nonsensical mess. The other problem with Lex's plan is it requires him literally knowing everything about both Batman and Superman and we're never shown how Lex has that information and he'd have to know literally everything right down to what each man was thinking. That just doesn't work and came across and nothing short of bad story telling.

I've been a comic book fan for years, my real name is Clark, so I've always had a love of the Superman stories, when he's being the Big Blue Boyscout, where he doesn't understand how some people can do evil things, how it just baffles him, and he'll do everything he can to stop it. How he'd even spend all night with a woman who needs someone to just be there for her, and talk her out of jumping off a building, not trying to force her down. And later on, even gets a kitten out of a tree for an old lady. I love both DC and Marvel, but DC is actually trying to hard to compete with Marvel. They need to slow down, and start establishing great characters. I don't want a Superman movie, I want a Clark Kent movie.

Well...it's not necessarily a good Clark Kent movie, but "Superman The Movie"(1978) at least got the character of Superman down perfectly. Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve gave us a great Superman and convinced us for the first time that a man could fly(Yeah, nowadays, anyone can fly with CGI and Greenscreen, but back in 1978, nobody had done a convincing flying man yet. This Superman was the first and many of his flying scenes still hold up today).

I've never been a hard core comics fan, and my experience with Superman has mostly been thought pieces on what he might represent and some of the movies... and most importantly the Animated Justice League series. Regardless of how I interacted with the man of steel, I always understood why people loved him so much. But then I saw one panel of the story that your talking about, and the image of Superman, standing behind this person who was clearly in a lot of emotional pain, and then the next panel is his cape wrapped around her and him holding her close. It very sweet and to some fluffy... Until you see that they are on the edge of building. This is more than just saving someone getting thrown off a building by some malevolent exterior force: it one person understanding another and helping them realize that just because their malicious force is not exterior, that they can also be saved too. That is just my observation, based on my experience with Superman; I there was another message feel free to clarify, I would love to know the story.( side note, I haven't been able to find the name of that particular comic, help their would be appreciated )

You don't HAVE to take a side, these movies are made for all of us, not just certain people. Marvel generally have more relatable characters. DC have and Batman for me is amazing because there are so many things you can explore, but I feel that most of DCs heroes are massively overpowered. Marvel powers tend to be more clearly defined, their characters more flawed and for me relatable as a result. (That being said I never particularly liked Tony Stark. Or the guardians of the galaxy) but again theres more teamwork, more internal conflict.

So what if he did? Zod's just going to keep killing more people and he's never going to stop. He made that perfectly clear to Superman when he begged him to stop snd he replied with 'Never'. I really don't see how it is more like Superman to not kill Zod and let him continue to kill millions of people. Superman made the right choice by killing Zod because that was the only way he could've stopped him, by ending his life. And its not like Superman wanted to kill him either. He literally cries out in pain because he had to end a life. I really don't see the problem with the scene

Excellent video! i think it is important to keep in mind that people have, by this point... different expectations for DC or Marvel movies. I think that's why something like Thor tDW feels like it is considered bad because it compares to Thor, Thor ragnarok, and all the other marvel movies. Compare to something like Wonder Woman... which is honestly as good as a "normal" phase 1 Marvel movie... but because it is compared to the rest of DC movies you get the feeling it is much better than it actually is.

It does improve the film, but it couldn't fix the biggest problem in it: Jessie Eisenberg's horribly written, directed and acted Lex Luthor. It couldn't fix how stupid they suddenly made Lois Lane. It couldn't fix the horrible decision to bring in Doomsday for the first team up film. Honestly, none of that was necessary. This was supposed to be Batman V. Superman. That, alone, would've made a great film. They didn't need to start setting up the Justice league right at the get-go. They should've made the Wonder Woman film, Aquaman film, Flash film and rebooted the Green Lantern before even THINKing of doing Justice League. Doomsday should've been held until a much later film. The Justice League film should've been slowly built up and should've had Darkseid as the villain, not Steppenwolf. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen and DC shot it's wad unwisely and pretty much guaranteed that the DCEU would implode under its own weight. I'm hoping when they attempt to do it again in 30 years, they have someone much wiser and DC comics passionate in charge of the DC heroes so we can finally get the films we really want to see.

Like I've seen him rescue Lois Lane within a split second of her being in danger cuz somehow he knows where she is at all times....i just don't get how he couldn't casually find his mom...i'm honestly curious...is there an impediment to his powers that was going on in that scene?

So listen. Marvel is good at movies because they find people that easily fit their comic heroes from so many different comic series, but their animated movies suck since the voice acting is tough and plot is hare to plot out since they're already used in the film. DC has a ton of Batman movies and a few others flaws and successes, and when introducing a new hero, it's different. But their animated films are easy since voice acting for the DC universe is easy.

I guess it's a stroke of irony that DC managed to produce an animated series using the team-up concept over a decade ago, and NOTHING released by marvel has even gotten close to touching how great it was. Then Marvel expanded on the concept and brought it to the big screen, and DC are rushing everything to compete with them.

Even after the movie was done he said he didn't felt it was a good character for the movie. He did the acting as best as he could, it was written as that, the issue was the writing alone in here. And it really helps justify both Superman having to kill Zod, because the fight was getting out of hand, and the backlash Superman gets in the sequel. His whole arc is that he's more human than Batman but people see him either as a messiah, which he doesn't think he is, or a monster, which he definitely is not. He's just a man. And that's why Pa Kent didn't want him to show is powers. He's not being a dick, he's afraid if he does, his son will be robbed of a chance to live a normal life and learn real, honest, all-american values (I hate that expression but Pa Kent most definitely would not). His arc in BvS is to feel the burden his father wanted to protect him from, but then still choosing to give his life for humanity. Justice League just... Shortchanged those big ideas in favour of something more straight forward to my great disappointment. I don't think WB really wanted to give Snyder the chance to finish his big story on the difficulty of being a hero. Frankly, I think it was a brilliant approach to the character and I disagree with most of this video. Man of Steel just wasn't very good, it was kind of boring. BvS though, was rather fantastic. It and Wonder Woman are the only good movies WB's made in my view.
