@@WinnieTheG @WinnieTheG In practice it's very difficult to direct your team defensively. I find it's much easier to give info when our team is in possession (how much time they've got, which way to turn, who's open for a pass etc). It's easy to vocalise what I intend to do (claim the ball or stay). But solid defence is all about subtle positioning which is nigh impossible to communicate at the speed play develops. Even something as basic as a striker dropping off the back of your centre back ahead of an incoming cross - by the time you communicate that, and the CB takes it in and reacts, the striker could easily nip back goal side of your CB. Mostly you should just trust your defenders to know how to defend, and focus on your positioning, decisions and execution. A good defender will do what they think is best anyway regardless of instruction The sheer amount Pickford shouts, I bet it's just generic stuff along the lines of 'wake the fuck up you lazy cunts'. Which is needed every now and again but not constantly, it's just background noise. I guarantee you he's not bellowing out constant constructive tactical information. I bet it's not even possible amidst PL crowd noise

I play amateur football, and am the one who yells from the first minute till the last minute of the game while standing in goal. It's because I need my teammates to remain pumped, watch out for counter attacks, and to keep their marked players from breaking free. Cheers to Pickford and all those who take goalkeeping duties very seriously!

Horrible take, he's the best keeper in the league on a good day and that Fulham game was one of his only off days.

What is it with Everton and producing/retaining really solid goalies for long spells? Tim Howard held it down for nearly a decade, and Jordan started there young and hasn't left, even when he could probably go to a bigger club.

Peter Schmeichel was also hot tempered. It’s passion, competitive… this is the highest level of the most popular sport on earth. The keeper also have high inactivity during the match and then suddenly switched to hyper activity. By railing yourself up or being upbeat, you’re keeping yourself mentally checked in the game.
