@@bhvillaman4401 He was a lot slimmer and more mobile in his Everton days. @@bhvillaman4401 He was a lot slimmer and more mobile in his Everton days. For whatever reason, in his first season at United he decided to trade mobility for even more mass and strength, when it really wasn't a weak point of his game at all. The goals you see in the first minute or so of this video, against Chelsea in the cup and Arsenal at Goodison, are things he has simply not been capable of since that transfer, and he's a much worse player for it.
Leighton would've been amazing in this era , its a shame what happened with barkely cause he had so much potential but he looks back to his best at luton and lowkey lukaku in his final season at everton had a good case as one of the top 15 strikers in the world

Our 2009 team was the best of the Premier League era. Howard, Baines, Lescott, Jakielka, Jack Rodwell, Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar, Fellaini, Osman, Castillo, Saha, Yakubu, Vaughan, Anichebe. That squad is probably better than the vast majority of prem teams this season.

I thought the same thing. Lukaku wasn't so great before leaving. Comes back, flops and trips on his own ball thinking he'll play like this. Barkley lost all his confidence and becomes just another player. Sucks to see great talent going to Chelsea then you don't see any of that once they are there.

@@GuttlegobExactly. I don't think Moyes would have let Moshiri buy 5 10's in 1 window. Or some of the other players
I used to watch this team quite a lot, mainly for Deulofeu and Naismith - both of whom tended to start on the bench but usually got a run-out. Naismith saved the points on numerous occasions after being subbed on. But, yes, quality throughout.
This makes me sad seeing how good of a team we had on the cusp of Europe most years and we are now just a former shell of ourselves fighting to stay in the league for the third year running
I remember playing this team in FIFA back in those days, underrated gem.
That was such a good team looking back on it ... We are a shambles now .. we had Samuel eto for god sake
As an Arsenal fan, I always hated Everton because they always seemed to play so well everytime they play us back during the early 2010s. I was only a kid of course but the quality they had made me hate them. But looking back at it, Everton had an admirable talented squad who could have done wonders in Europe if they had the right backing for a manager.
Awesome starting 11. Was the year I began following them. I’m in the States so it just started coming on tv. Really wish Lukaku never left.
As a lifelong Everton fan it makes me sad to compare this team to the one of today. There was so much energy, pace, creativity. Shame there’s no mention of Leon Osman in this video! He made it all tick. Even got himself an England cap on the back of his form.
Old Umbro + Chang = Perfect!
honestly its ashame barkley left at one point was one of the biggest english prospects but I'll never forget this Everton team it was a team that would put up a fight with everyone Gerrard Deulofeu,Lukaku when he was an unstoppable attacker,Mirales,Seamus Coleman arguably one of the best full backs in the league in his prime,Tim Howard a keeper that won over everyone with his performances against belgium in 2014 world cup,Leighton Baines same as coleman incredible full back,Stones a top rated prospect at the time,Mccgeady who had the most beautiful mccgeady spins(no sh*t sherlock),
I still remember Mikel Arteta was great at Everton too before join Arsenal.

I'll always say bringing back Drogba for 1 year and getting rid of Lukaku rather than giving Lukaku Drogba and Remy's minutes that season was one of the biggest mistakes Chelsea made, he was a 20 goal man for years in his early days and we couldn't buy a 10 goal man for love or money for years.
