Thank you for providing one of the few Wesleyan voices on KZread! There are a great number of Calvinist, Reformed, Baptist, and Calvary voices from which, with discernment, much can be learned. For some reason, good Wesleyan/ Methodist thinkers are more difficult to find.
Thank you! This is a really great treatment of Wesley. I needed these reminders. Additionally, I could see the strands of early Pentecostal beliefs and their pursuit of unity outside of mainline denominations in his thoughts about catholic Christianity. Appalachian Pentecostals who were somewhat influenced by the Wesleyan Holiness movement referred to themselves as the "Christian Union," a phrase drawn from Wesley himself.
I come from a pentecostal denomination, and I always want to find a youtube channel that introduce weslyean theology books just like those puritan or reformed book channel. Very appreciate your video. 😊
Amen, brother! Love John Wesley! His preaching was prolific and inspiring. Thank you for sharing this!
Amazing topic. The need for the body of Christ to be united is dire. This topic bothers me. An entire chapter (John 17) records the long fervent prayer of Christ on unity in the church. I appreciate this except from Wesley. It leans heavily on chapter 14 in Romans.
This is my first time here. And although I’ve never read or listened to this particular sermon of Wesley, I find myself in full agreement with it. I was originally raised as a confessional Lutheran, and have been serving in a local Now, GMC congregation for over a decade, as an adult SS facilitator, but I still identify as post- denominational because I’m not officially a rostered member in any denomination. I feel like God is drawing his people back to the kind of unity seen in the book of Acts. I believe that at least part of my calling is to help facilitate that. Thank you for this posting.
Nice to hear someone else who is Wesleyan, on KZread! As you said we are hard to find out there. God bless you and your channel.
It was great learning about John Wesley! For me, it’s not the differences between baptism, communion, or whether drinking wine is acceptable, it’s complimentarianism and Calvinism that I have difficulty tolerating. I have a hard time being in fellowship with Christians that look down on women and see lost souls as reprobates.

I so agree with you. I have been positively influenced and taught by so many Godly women, including my current pastor.

Oh, THIS. I'm not even of a strong opinion about Calvinism (though I'm not Calvinist) but I am heartsick at not being able to find a denomination that both treats the Bible and discipleship *seriously* AND doesn't treat women like second class citizens. Methodism in Australia has been swallowed by the UCA, which is super friendly to women, but has a real "Bible is optional, don't worry about personal obedience or holiness too much, but having the far-left stance on everything is mandatory" culture. I just want a church where I fit in! I want a church where we worship the Lord at services, not ponder how we can pressure the government on climate change - a good thing to think about, but not in place of worshipping God!
Thank you for this excellent video; balanced, fair, and informative. God Bless!
Beautiful! Thank you for this. I'd love it if you went thru another Wesley sermon sometime or did a short video overview of his life. They say Methodism used to be the largest denomination in the US, plus many others trace back directly to Wesley, so he's crucial to understanding our history (especially Americans.)🥰
Thank you for this, JM! I would love to see more expositions of sermons from Wesley or others and hear your thoughts on them. This sermon has been a good reminder for me to try and hold more to what Wesley called the "catholic spirit". I admit that even I most likely lean more progressive than you (though not to the extreme of even denying Jesus's divinity! By no means! I think my point of view would be "inclusive orthodoxy", I think), I have learned and grown so much in my faith thanks to your ministry and I hold it ever so dear to my heart. I also appreciate you as a voice of the Wesleyan-Methodist tradition, as I was recently convinced of it (instead of my Baptist and Catholic upbringing) and I have had such a hard time finding voices from said tradition, instead of say, Calvinists. Please keep up the good work, please please please! God bless you!

Inclusive orthodoxy. It has a nice ring, but whatever is it?
Really enjoyed this, JM. I was raised Presbyterian, but graduated from a Methodist college, and did a year at a Methodist seminary. Although I'm not Methodist, for several reasons, I've appreciated Wesley's brand of Christianity. It's obvious that he had read many of the early Church Fathers, in addition to being steeped in the Scriptures. I'd love to hear more about your beliefs. I think you've intimidated that you're not "fully" Wesleyan. If true, what are your differences in belief? I've been Lutheran for years, but must confess I'm not a very "good" one. Too many questions! 🤔 But, where shall I go? Jesus has the words of eternal life. So, I will work out my salvation as a Lutheran Jesus-follower.
Before listening: the real question is why isn’tJohn Wesley everyone’s spiritual hero

After listening: ah JM this is such a great sermon and I appreciate your exposition! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🩵
Thank you, Brother JM. Please disciple us more on Methodism/Wesleyanism. I'd love learn more, much more. As you know, the student can be overwhelmed by the absolute lack of materials written from/ inspired by a Wesleyan approach. Default mode: CALVINISM. I encourage you,I exhort you!!! Time for a "cradle Methodist"(B. Witherington) to take us by the hand and guide us down the ROAD a way. BTW., where are the John, Chaz, Susanna and Francis A. action figures?😵💫 🔥🌹⭐🌹⭐😮
I love Wesley's work too. I am probably a Methodist at heart, but in my part of the world Methodism has been swallowed into the UCA - far left, not interested in discipleship, only focused on Liberation Theology. It's frustrating.
