The dojo is a place where you go to study and train in martial arts. Growing in Christian discipleship is similar to martial arts training (1 Cor. 9:26-27)...
We have a Sensei (teacher): Jesus
We have a katana (sword): Scripture
So consider this a dojo for disciples to be Equipped, Engaged, and Empowered in their study of Scripture.

Thank you for this, JM! I would love to see more expositions of sermons from Wesley or others and hear your thoughts on them. This sermon has been a good reminder for me to try and hold more to what Wesley called the "catholic spirit". I admit that even I most likely lean more progressive than you (though not to the extreme of even denying Jesus's divinity! By no means! I think my point of view would be "inclusive orthodoxy", I think), I have learned and grown so much in my faith thanks to your ministry and I hold it ever so dear to my heart. I also appreciate you as a voice of the Wesleyan-Methodist tradition, as I was recently convinced of it (instead of my Baptist and Catholic upbringing) and I have had such a hard time finding voices from said tradition, instead of say, Calvinists. Please keep up the good work, please please please! God bless you!

Thank you for providing one of the few Wesleyan voices on KZread! There are a great number of Calvinist, Reformed, Baptist, and Calvary voices from which, with discernment, much can be learned. For some reason, good Wesleyan/ Methodist thinkers are more difficult to find.

Thank you! This is a really great treatment of Wesley. I needed these reminders. Additionally, I could see the strands of early Pentecostal beliefs and their pursuit of unity outside of mainline denominations in his thoughts about catholic Christianity. Appalachian Pentecostals who were somewhat influenced by the Wesleyan Holiness movement referred to themselves as the "Christian Union," a phrase drawn from Wesley himself.

It was great learning about John Wesley! For me, it’s not the differences between baptism, communion, or whether drinking wine is acceptable, it’s complimentarianism and Calvinism that I have difficulty tolerating. I have a hard time being in fellowship with Christians that look down on women and see lost souls as reprobates.

What the bible say's about masturbation is in Lev.15:16-24, that also deals with the single man and single woman that's had sex and what to do if the emission get's on either of them, WASH with WATER and be clean after a certain amount of time, it's no different from any other law that has to do with any liquid form leaving a man's body, pee, poop ( diarrhea ), a runny nose, anything that could have germs, bacteria or viruses that can be contacted by someone else, masturbation is only a modern day word for loving one's self or self love, it's nothing new, it's been going on ever since man found out there was pleasure in doing it, there's a right way and a wrong way in doing it since it involves the mind and what your thinking about or desiring when you do it, if your desiring another man's wife or woman, your sinning in your heart, although it's not something God will judge you for but it is something if you don't control that could cause you to sin, there's really no excuse to be desiring another man's wife or woman when there's so many single women out there that would love nothing more than to have you desire her, no one is going to be judged based on their thoughts, period, only on the thoughts they act on, period, however on that day when God reveals the innermost thoughts of men's heart, beware, at that time NO ONE will be able to stand, in this respect we are ALL sinners, but not acting on it will get you praised on that day, a person strong in the faith can see anything, he knows what he see's will never cause him to sin, a person weak in the faith should not even be watching tv or going to the beach or anywhere beautiful women go, that person is apt to sin and once he does, separation from God occurs, what the eye's can see is not the sin, it's what the eye's can see that is the CAUSE of the sin, if your eye will CAUSE you to sin, pluck it out, if your hand will CAUSE you to sin, cut it off, the sins of the flesh are manifested, they appear, the sins in the heart or the mind do NOT appear, the sins of the heart and mind are only where they originate from, there is good and evil in everyone, if you don't see it in reality, you will in your mind before it appears before others, the spiritual world is in the mind, if your mindful of the evil or see it when it's coming, you will never do it, that's walking in the spirit, being mindful or aware of what you see in your mind is sin, if seeing a naked woman will cause you to sin then by all means don't look at one, if going to the beach and seeing women in their bathing suits will cause you to sin, then don't go to the beach, heck for that matter if just working around one will cause you to sin, move to the mountains, if you don't know what sin is, read 1 Jn 3:4, it's breaking God's Law, if you don't know God's Law, READ ABOUT IT, ALL the forbidden sexual sins are in it, the law and the prophets, whatever is beyond what is written in it is coming from one's heart and mind, and know this, the heart of man is very deceiving, make them PROVE to you that masturbation hurts your body, I say body because if you believe it hurts your relationship with God, that would be mental, if it's hurting you mentally then I would say you got a MENTAL problem that needs to be looked into by someone experienced enough to deal with it, the bible say, What man has ever hated his own body but rather cherished and loved it, that author should be living in our times, there are MANY in our times that hate their own bodies

Amazing topic. The need for the body of Christ to be united is dire. This topic bothers me. An entire chapter (John 17) records the long fervent prayer of Christ on unity in the church. I appreciate this except from Wesley. It leans heavily on chapter 14 in Romans.

The Bible is the Living Word of God . . . whatever you seek to find, that is what you will find!!! Every religious belief successfully finds scripture to support their belief . . . Thank God that He knows the level of deception that comes in these Last Days because obviously every single human who reads the Bible & interprets it their own way, cannot possibly be right . . . Thank God salvation is based upon being 'born again' by belief in Jesus as the Son of God who died & rose from death in our place & for our sins & NOT upon whether we believe in amillennial, premillennial, postmillennial or pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib sequence of events. I am encouraged that "billions" will be crowded into Jerusalem & super huge banquet table - but stated negatively is putting limits on God, like God hadn't thought of that? That's my red flag that something is not correct in somebody's thinking & interpretation of scripture . . . God cannot be wrong, God is unchanging, God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniportent & every other omni... to describe God, way beyond my level of thinking. So, I'm just going to trust in God & not any human for how things will come to pass.

The Greek verb e·geiʹro, meaning “to raise up,” can refer to a resurrection, but it is often used in other contexts. For example, it can mean to “lift out” of a pit or to “get up” from the ground. (Mt 12:11; 17:7; Lu 1:69) Matthew does not say that “the holy ones” are “raised up.” He says that their “bodies” are. Evidently, the earthquake was so powerful that the tombs were broken open and corpses were thrown out of them. Just another perspective

V 53. Or “they who came out.” The Greek verb indicates a plural masculine subject referring to people, not to the bodies (neuter in Greek) mentioned in verse 52. This evidently refers to passersby, who saw the dead bodies exposed by the earthquake (vs. 51) and who entered the city and reported what they had seen. I’m only wondering aloud. I’m only have very little Biblical Greek but am studying hard.

Thanks for another great video on a very interesting topic. I have a question for either of you. I'm a believer of many years who has been on a journey in my faith recently. I come from a conservative background, Southern Baptist, but I've gone to many denominations over the years. When you read a passage like Matthew 27, and consider the possibility that Matthew may have added portions of the story for literary effect, how do you reconcile that with a modern day Christianity that says they bible is 100% inspired by God? I do believe the bible is 100% infallible, but not 100% inerrant. It just seems that the more I study and actually listen to scholars like you two, the more I have to trust in almighty God and His work through the Holy Spirit (not that I'm very charismatic or looking for a new revelation), and the less I blindly follow what the bible says. It is a strange road to walk. I have peace, but I feel very alone in my conservative church. I hope you understand the question. Any thoughts on growing deeper in what the bible actually says would be greatly welcome.

Since fellowship and community are built on our mutual beliefs in what scripture says, it is often hard if not impossible, to find a group of believers who don't think I'm a heretic. Maybe you have a wonderfully accepting church where everybody's a biblical scholar, but my reality for many years is that most people don't actually think about the bible, they just believe what their preacher or tradition says. But the Apostolic Council of Acts 15 was VERY clear that gentiles are not required to keep Levitical food laws any more than we are required to keep Levitical sacrificial laws. You can't pick and choose which laws of Torah to keep and which can be discarded. Either we are in the Messianic New Covenant poured out by the Spirit and written on human hearts or we're not. This is an addition to my previous post. There I stated that there are two components of the New Covenant: baptism with spirit and baptism with water. Now you understand why the Hebrew word "circumcisions" is plural here. The final "Moses" for our time (as the two witnesses) must undergo both "circumcisions" before he commences his 3.5 year ministry. I would like to clear up the supposed ambiguities, if a may. 1. The angel of the Lord is about to kill *_Moses._* This angel represents Christ and may even well have been him. 2. It makes no difference which son is having the circumcision. This is a prophetic drama. Not every detail is relevant. 3. The foreskin is presented at the feet of the angel. It is not a euphemism - "at the feet" (of the Lord) signifies humility and a willingness to submit to God's will. 4. Zipporah is talking to the angel of the Lord (Christ). 5. The Lord lets *_Moses_* alone. I have shared both these posts with Carmen in the comments section of a video on her KZread channel. Would you like to know when the ministry of the two witnesses commences? This man must be baptized before then, and he surely knows when his ministry will commence, since he is currently under a death sentence from the Lord!
