Why Jamie Tartt is the Best Character in Ted Lasso

Jamie Tartt is the Best Character in Ted Lasso
Over the course of Ted Lasso's three season run, one character has shown themselves to be a cut above the rest. Jamie Tartt undergoes tremendous growth from the start of the series. Original AFC Richmond's star player with a terrible attitude, Jamie underwent a massive transformation as he learned to be a team player and applied the lessons he learned into his everyday life. Thoroughly compelling every time he is on screen, he is in my opinion, the best character on the show.

When the character you'd like to set on fire in season 1 becomes your beloved baby boy you would die and kill for by season 3, you know the writers did him right 😂

Oh, I felt that. He's my utmost beloved baby boy by the time season 3 started. And yes, I would deck bitches for Jamie. No hesitation.

One of my fav moments is when Sam is handed that captain band in season 3 and Jamie starts tryna get Sam to hand him the band and the play around with Sam jokingly flipping Jamie off showing how far their relationship had grown

Roy hugging Jamie broke me, what a moment!!! Absolutely beautiful. Then the unconditional love his mom gifts him ❤ (while Roy and Keeley discover their posters on the wall in Jamie’s childhood bedroom is hilarious). Soo good!

I think my single favorite line in the entire series is "I feel like I've lost me wings Roy, where the fuck are me wings, Roy ahhhhhhh".
“I feel like I have impotence, but I have it in my soul.” That may be the most profound way of describing what it’s like to feel like there’s something wrong, but you don’t know what it is. It’s a pain inside that many feel but aren’t sure how to describe.

Depression in a nutshell 😐 although I believe at the end of season 3 Jamie wasn't depressed anymore and he reconnected with his dad 🤗
The part where Roy hugs him after Jaime punched his own dad just breaks my heart to a milllion pieces. Especially when you see for a half second right as Roy goes in for the hug, Jaime flinches. This was probably the first time in his whole life another guy just got that close to him and wasn't trying to kick his ass.
My friend just started watching, and just txt me and said "I'm judging you for Jamie being your favourite character" I was like just you wait, Henry Higgins
#PhilDunsterForTheEmmy - Jamie's journey from S01 to the end is just spectacular. With a lesser actor, it could've easily been a bit forced or unrealistic, but Phil hit every single note perfectly.

Jamie's arc is as well done of a character arc that anyone has ever done. That is definitely equal parts the actor and the writers. So glad that I got to watch it. It kinda feels like the opposite of Walter White, and almost just as amazing to me. He goes from despicable to heart warming, from selfish to self less, so by the time he passes off the free kick, and then does the "give me the ball, I want the ball" decoy, it's a jump up and pump your fist on the air moment. And the friendship that developed with Roy is something that you don't get to see very often on TV. A real friendship.
“Youre gonna foul me and im gonna score from back here” is top two badass moments
Thought this said 170K views, and the quality definitively deserves that. Top marks for you!

Fine. I'll watch Ted Lasso again.
HE DID IT, Y'ALL!!! PHIL DUNSTER IS AN EMMY NOMINEE!!! #PhilDunsterForTheEmmy give this man the trophy right now do not make us wait. I'm so incredibly happy for the entire cast but honestly this was the one category that I was truly invested in.
How unexpected that Ted takes Jamie's words to confront his own mother in the next to last episode. It's a sign of how much Jamie has grown that he can inspire growth in someone who is a father figure to him.
"You might be so sure you are 1 in a million, that sometimes you forget that out there you are 1 of 11" I think that's the sentence I love the most in all of Ted Lasso, 2nd being "Be curious, not judgmental"

Great character analysis. If you had asked me during the early episodes of season 1 who I thought my favorite character would be in the end, there's no way would I have said Jamie Tartt. That's a testimony to the incredible writing and character development.

I just thought... they both have messed up relationships with their power hungry and abusive fathers.😢 In this sense Ted would easily be uncle iron.🥰
I liked him since season 2, but for me it was the episode in Amsterdam that made me love him. Seeing him being this happy goofy and caring guy with Roy was so beautiful.
Honestly, I'd love to see a character analysis for all people you mentioned in the beginning, as well. This is an amazingly informational video!
i loved the scene in season 2 with Jamie and Roy hugging. you give a lot to Jamie in that scene but also that was a moment in roys similar journey as well. it may seem mean or wrong but that breakdown scene in season 3 where Jamie screams about his wings makes me laugh because i can see the actors having so much fun. does it take away from the scene yes but also no
I love how in the beginning nobody looks like a football player but as soon as season 2 and 3 starts all all in real football player fit
one thing people never talk about is the fact that jamie’s father is abusive. its not just him being unsupportive. he is emotionally and physically abusive, and i love how you acknowledged that.
This is one of the best written video arguments I’ve seen. It traces the development of a fictional character as well as any written essay about a fictional character in literature. Well done.
the left foot cross bit was impeccable
Phil should win an Emmy for this character.
The crazy thing about this show is you could pull up plenty of other characters and do an analysis on why they are the most compelling in the show. The character development in this series was phenomenal.
I just finished this show last week and started it over immediately after. My favorite character is Roy. I definitely have to admit that Jamie is a very close second and does have the best character arc. Liked and subscribed. :)
roy hugging jamie after the father scene makes me teary eyed. that just hits in the feels. from the most annoying and hated character to one of the best and charming one, jamie is definitely amazing
Season one, i would have bought a Kent shirt. Season two, Obisanya (or maybe Rojas). But by season three it would without doubt have been a Tartt shirt
100%. If you had told me in season 1 that Jamie would turn out to be my favorite character, I'd call you a liar - but damn, he had such a fantastic arc. Love him.
I have a friend who’s about to start watching the show. I KNOW she’s going to hate Jamie, but she will be in for a rollercoaster with him.
omg i thought i caught every easter egg but i never noticed the ICON to I,COG hat i love that so much!!!!
Another great video! Jamie and Roy definitely the best pair in the show, keep the content coming 🫡
Ok thanx for fully explaining the on-loan situation, bc I KINDA got it and how it contributed to s1 Jamie not giving a crap about being on a losing team/whether they win or lose, but now I see how it made ALL the sense. Why he had zero investment in Richmond as a team. Also, it’s weird how little I’ve seen people notice or mention how Jamie picked on Sam so much bc of jealousy of his relationship with his dad.
This is a brilliant character sketch of Jamie Tartt. Ted Lasso was one of the greatest series of all time.
Before watching this video, Jamie was also my favorite character. His arch is so interesting to watch.
His character arc is a rollercoaster and I absolutely love it. He is one of my favorites which I would have never guessed in season 1, which is the point. Gives me hope for humanity
Jaimi also was nice to Henry as a dig to Ted. As in look, even your kid knows im the best on the team. Great video. You are one of the few videos that actually get the Jaimi and Keely dynamic correct
Great point about Jamie being the one trying to fix the relationship with Roy and Roy suddenly being the immature one. Great catch. 17:51

I saw the title, clicked it, paused it immediately and am leaving this comment to say yes, obviously the show is about Jamie. Now I'm going to watch the video and leave a like.
Jamie is a character that you hate, then a guy who you grow to love. Even rewatching the show from the start and knowing his arc, you still go through the rollercoaster each time
Glad to see another in depth video that covers many areas of the show
Jamie is a leader. Because of Ted he embrace the positive side ! I really loved him in season 3
Beautiful commentary. Jamie Tartt is the epitome of the Ted Lasso coaching style - it isn't about making them better players, it's about making them better people together as a team. Everything else will come naturally. My only criticism is about the scene with Henry - my interpretation of that scene was Jamie trying to get Henry on his side to make Ted feel bad. His body language suggested sort of a "See, even your son likes me better" kind of toxicity. Otherwise, I loved the analysis. Great work, man.
Nice to see 1 Jamie have a legit character arc
I love how you could take clips of phil describing Jamie path to back the video. It shows to me that he really gets the core of his character each season.
I love my formerly terrible boy and his currently terrible hair

His hair in the third season is literally the best out of all three idk what youre on about. It was also the most accurate to what someone who cared about trends would have since that is a much modern style than his s1 cut
My favorite scene showing Jamies growth is in the finale when he is the decoy after being so against it in season 1. Went from n only shot guy, to a pass first score when needed guy, to a anything and everything the team needed me guy and as n athlete myself it was beautiful
Jamie tartt reminds me of Luis Litt from Suits a character you hate at first but grow to love
First time I've seen a ted lasso video essay, and I enjoyed the watch!
Great video man, can’t wait to see this blow up.
Great editing and insight. Props for the quality. P.s. left this after seeing the Jamie edited as untouchable with the Mario star graphic. 👏
oh silver you STAY winning on your character opinions. great vid per usual!!
Just finished binging this show and, while I wouldn't say Jamie is my favorite character, I would say he has the best arc in the entire show out of all the characters. I was completely dismissive of him in the first season, but grew to love him by the end.
I think he has the second best redemption arc ever. (After zuko of course)
Dude you did a fantastic job on this video! Really nice, man.
What a great video. I came away from Ted Lasso feeling the exact same thing but could not possibly articulate as well as you. I think the part that hit me the hardest and actually made me cry was the book. I felt that was the final piece to his puzzle because. again, great video!
Phil Dunster deserves his emmy
This video is so well done and insightful. Excellent work.
If Phil dunster doesn’t get the Emmy, we riot
This was a good deep dive. More pls
Great anlysis but I think the evaluation at 9:45 was less of showing Jamie was a person who wouldn't be mean to a child and moreso enforcing that the fans of Richmond love him, even including Ted's own son and that he thought it was funny that Ted's son came in for his autograph and reinforced he is the most loved player.
The only time the character arch gave me whiplash was the start of season 3. He was like a completely different person from season 2 it was a bit confusing. I think they could have eased into it. But still great either way
Jamie Tart do do do Jamie Tart do do do
incredible video!!
The thing that caught me most one my first watch was how openly hurt Jamie was by being sent back to Man City. The Jamie we’d come to know would’ve been overjoyed to return to his super team but instead his response is “it all happened so fast when Lasso ditched me” and when he’s challenged about it you’d expect him to shake it off and say “eh it’s for the best, I’m with an actually good team now” but instead he openly admits that he wishes Ted had fought to keep him. That’s when I think I knew there was more to Jamie
edits are hilarious!!
amazing video, didnt realise how recently this was made, glad to see videos like this
Pretty sure after watching the show, Jamie Tartt is my favorite fictional television character.
"As Ted plans an exorcism, Jaime finds himself at a crossroads" One of the most unhinged sentences about a football TV show ever 💀💀

Jamie is the Zuko of Ted Lasso.
This is such a good message I’ve benn through similar things And I got goosebumps
LOVED this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ted getting the most out of Jamie is why the team became successful. It's what made Jamie's character arc so significant; he changed from a me-first guy into a guy who was willing to make everyone around him better.
Amazing video
such a good video
Very good!
I strongly disagree that Jamie is the “best” because in my opinion they all are. This was one the greatest shows in part because it truly was an ensemble cast. Do I love Jamie’s character? Oh yes but I equally love Ted, Rebecca, Sam, Roy, Coach, Ned, Trent and so on because the way they worked together on screen to bring this story to us the audience. I understand why many feel Jamie’s character is ”the Best” but for me it’s the sum not the parts.
Great video about a great character in a great show
Good call!
Jamie is the Steve Harrington of Ted Lasso👍
Jamie's accent gets deeper through the seasons
Give Phil all of the awards 🏆🏆🏆
Sam and Jamie are the goats of the series
Our favorite ex-man city player.
The thing to note The most flawed disliked characters tend to have the most growth
Jamie Tartt changed to be a better version of himself the others are great to start
Jamie and his dad and Roy is the most heartbreaking science.
This show takes character development to a whole nother level! Where the fook are my wings ROY-OOOO
I agree. Jaime is a great choice.
In my opinion Jaime's character arch is one of the best, up their with Zuko from The Last Airbender.

Roy is the best because yes.
