Why Jaguar And Land Rover Face Uncertain Futures

Jaguar and Land Rover are two iconic automotive brands with rich heritages. They also have rocky histories of being passed between owners, with BMW owning Land Rover and Ford owning Jaguar in the 1980s. On the verge of bankruptcy, Tata Motors bought the two British sister brands in 2008 and turned them into money makers. Unfortunately, things are getting gloomy for Jaguar and Land Rover once again.
This was a risky move for Tata, which bought two luxury brands with reputations for unreliability on the cusp of the financial crisis. In the following years, Tata was able to turn the brands into moneymakers with models like the Land Rover Discovery, Land Rover Defender, and Jaguar XF.
Just as Jaguar and Land Rover found their footing they're again in trouble due to a drastically shrinking market in China and trouble in Europe. In turn, Tata Motor's credit rating has also taken a hit. Will Tata be able to turn around Jaguar and Land Rover or will it cut its losses?

Nope. China is going to sell only full electric cars by end of next year. Why do you think Tesla wants to make their cars there? This news has been going on for years. Also some China brand SUV are actually better in quality compared to Land Rovers. And most importantly cheaper to own too. Geely is one of those company that uses their Volvo ownership to trickle some of the Volvo know how to make quality cars. In fact a lot of new electric car start ups are owned by Chinese car companies that has the money to invest into them.

Let's be honest English cars are crappy when it comes to reliability. If you think about it, is curious to note that after WW2 almost all car brands that were part of the Allies are super crappy, on the contrary to the Axis, there's a show from the UK that asked this same question, they were trying to figure out why the Germans factories are better than the ones in England, same with the quality of their vehicles, and the same thing with the Japanese, they are everywhere on the globe, US consumer had switched from the traditional Detroit sister to the Japanese brands

Even after acquiring advanced giants such as Land Rover and Jaguar there own products barely improved. Now when they have come to the market with head turning cars, they are still fidgety and there quality is yet to be determined. They haven't been out for long. Tata doesn't have the trust of local buyers, it has made improvement but it has to make a leap if it wants to come forward in India. Due our own domestic brands sleeping while the foreign brands came, won and dominated the market, they have brought their misfortune on themselves. My father drove Tata Indica for 12 years. Without major problems in the car. But even he doesn't think that any Indian brand is to be trusted after driving Volkswagen Vento for 7 years. (Fun fact the Indica was so well maintained that it is still running, I was jogging with my friend in a my city and I saw my old car parked in front of a house, it was kept clean, which made me appreciate the effort of the owner)

These days there is very little difference between products made by different companies. Similar materials, similar designs optimized by computers, components and sub-assemblies made by a few suppliers, same manufacturing processes with the same robots, engineering done by people with comparable education and skills (or who were hired from competitors). Honda used to be the synonym for reliability but it is a hit&miss nowadays, Volvo used to stand out in safety but other companies make safe cars too these days. In short-things change.

I just sold my 2018 Range Rover. Never had a single problem. I beat the crap out of it, I took it on a 2500 mile rally with zero issues, on the limiter half the time. People talk badly about the brand out of pure jealousy. They dont depreciate like they used to, I sold mine a year and a half later with 20k miles on it for 71,000; I got it for 89,000. Compare that to an s- class, that's half the depreciation. There is no SUV at its price point that even kind of compares to a Range Rover. Sit in one, drive one and look at the numbers before you talk badly about them.

The XE, F-Pace, and XF have interiors that lack luxury. The 2020 models of these vehicles have definitely upped their game with better luxury. If Land Rover has the tech, share it with Jag. Sure Jag isn’t as high volume, but it will never be when it’s left in the past. Sad to see the XJ go, but I’m curious to see the reincarnated version in a couple years. Land Rover (Range Rover) have always been one of my favorite SUVS. luxury and such an amazing drive. Far better than BMW and Mercedes. As for Jaguar same thing. Recently got the Land Rover Discovery Sport and A Jaguar F-Type (S)., incredible cars. The issue with the company as a whole is being competitive with mass production and distribution., something that even the biggest car makers in the world are challenged. Too bad Ford got them during the financial crisis, otherwise it would take off beyond means. Their brand speaks luxury and quality, something that Ford can take advantage of and invest in. TATA thus far did a great job. and super correct - give them the money they need and let them be! they're great and innovative.
