Why is white supremacy growing in the United States? | The Bottom Line

For centuries, there was no significant challenge to the supremacy of white people in the United States.
White nationalists speak of “saving America” - but who are they saving it for? And who are they saving it from?
In the last few years, demographic shifts and changing attitudes have brought a sense of anxiety among whites, who fear they will lose their majority status, become “replaced” by minorities and face all kinds of hostilities.
Host Steve Clemons asks Kathleen Belew, author of A Field Guide to White Supremacy, and Wes Bellamy, author of When White Supremacy Knocks, about the future of race in American society.

We also still have a lot of people born from the 40's.50's and 60's left,, that and the younger generation,, WS is growing through political organizations, social media, fraternities etc...

I know what you mean but it is growing steadily fast and internationally now and white supremacy thanks social media for that, instead of going to these rural towns gaining support, instead of having pamphlets they have facebook groups, reddit communities, instagram pages. And after the facebook whistleblower we now know that facebook stood back only for it to gain a bigger audience just for profits… its sad but now they can reach and indoctrinate these poor or uneducated children 1000’s and miles away all from a phone or laptop. There no difference is white supremacy and ISIS tactics.

" Black people can't do it alone..........", White people who are concerned need to learn Black history in the U.S., understand that history & then decide if, what Black people complain of & protest against is in fact, the truth & if finally seeing the U.S. history for what it actually was / is, they than can do whatever possible to call out those who would attempt to maintain and or take race relations back to the U.S.'s past history. It must be remembered, initially Black people ONLY asked for equality, never the house next door, nor a seat in White classrooms, but Whites turned the request for equality into something which we live with, to this day. The fact that people could be taxed & yet denied, says it all. The U.S. historically does NOT, want to share, with Black people, PERIOD!!

The color of people’s skin, phenotypical differences between “races” is less than 0.08% of genetics and the difference between intra-racial genetics is more than inter-racial (meaning you might just have more genes similar to someone who is “black” than another member of your “white” race). I’m guessing you’re “white” since you seem to be real triggered by any representation of people with a little more melanin in their skin than you. Most people (even the far left) don’t HATE white people, just white supremacists. There is a distinct and important difference. Which of course the left acts as if all white countries are irredimaably evil and all non-white countries are angelic saints. How can you say the left doesn't hate whites, when Yale lecturers can proudly talk about having mass murder fantasies of killing whites for their color of skinn, with next to 0 puch back from the left. When the black mayor of chicago can say she only wants to be interviews to non-white journalists. When the left say racism against whites is imposibel so saying is imposible for a white person to really suffer because of hate from anyone of other race. Which leads to the left ignoring horrendous crimes commited against white people by non-whites.

Diversity is not expected anywhere in the world, except for majority white countries. Nobody is demanding that diversity be a requirement in Africa, Latin America, the middle east, Asia, etc... Diversity is only forced in majority white nations. I think as long as that is the case, there will be a backlash by white people. The simple fact is, is that most white people whether they admit it or not, do not want to live in a multiracial/multicultural country. And I'm assuming most black people feel the same. People don’t want to make things about race, sorry it is about race; race, ableism, religious discrimination which has been through the roof and any other form of discrimination that has been on increase. The majority had a very defined image of what a True Scotsman is; we must redefine that. The traditional will hand the torch over within 20 years, the 2020 census already shows this to be true, indicated by data. We are heading towards much chaos, hopefully not “calamity”, the fact that CRT is what swung Virginia because white middle class women don’t want real history taught, that is not a good sign for our fight against fascism. We have a system that was set up it's called systematical racism but other people that don't experience that says oh it don't exist but it does Look at our school system, look at the prison systems. But we have people that have never , won't ever experience racism telling you that it don't exist because they have never experienced it. Just like police brutality they don't experience police brutality but another culture does and that other culture is trying to tell you , hey it exists but, the one that's not experiencing police brutality will tell the culture that is that it don't exist. Make it make sense. You cannot who's not experiencing something tell another group who is that it don't exist.

I'll never say systemic racism is not real. It is. Society is talking about it more these days trying to figure out ways to combat it. Each day/week/month the discussion grows with more participants. Ordinary people, along with influential law makers. The expectation in the 60's was "well of course we're racist" to now: where to be an unabashed racist will get you fired and stigmatized. It's so easy to be lead astray with " social media ". and left with the impression things are heading for the ditch. It's disgusting to think we had a president that wanted to lead the nation back to a time before we had civil rights for black people. Especially when the reason for doing so - was (sadly) to garner votes. Trump is the classic grave robber of our times; opening crypts and graves of dead and dying toxic, hate filled ideas - all the while knowing full well the harm if would cause, but did anyway.

In 1971, I had some co-ed friends politely but firmly tell me not to use the N-word, on the basis that it is offensive to those with darker skin. Thank God for them. It set me on a course towards anti-racism and continuous de-programming of the apartheid I grew up in. There are many that don't know they are racists or bigoted. I didn't even know I was a racist when I was pushing white supremacist George Wallace for president in 1968. Fast forward to today, and I have several friends who have been victims of biased bigotry through-out their lives, yet they sometimes push some very racist/bigoted stuff. Sometimes it's anti-Jewish, and sometimes it's myths about ancient things that prove they are actually the superior (or, real) "race". I feel for those who have suffered racism, but all racism and bigotry must be thwarted. It takes all kinds of "persuasion" IMO. In public, we must call the despicable BS for what it is.
