Why is this Necessary? Building a Quick Lazy Susan | Woodworking Project

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I had to make a lazy susan for someone so I figured I might as well film it. It’s a simple woodworking project. I decided to use MDF for mine but it could also be made from solid wood or plywood. The top is 22” in diameter and the base is 14”. There is a 5/8” diameter hole approximately 3.5” in from the edge of the base. This allows me to attach the hardware to the underside of the top.
Here is the circle cutting jig I mentioned in the video: amzn.to/3VBXSi9

For as simple as that is it turned out looking super. Like the ones they sell at Bed, Bath, & Beyond for $45. Great job Mr Makes.

Use sanding sealer to seal the raw edges. Just paint it on, let it dry and lightly sand. It's much faster and leaves a really smooth surface.

Thanks for sharing this! I am about to start a lazy susan project and the 5/8 hole to access the screws is going to save me a headache later! Great tip on sealing MDF too!

Nice job! I need to make one of these to go under my wife's puzzle board instead of the cheap plastic one she has!

The Lazy Susan hardware is what I need to build a stand very similar to your project on which I could put my freshly finished keepsake boxes on to dry and to touch up, I'll attach some cones so the bottom won't sit flat against the surface and I should be good to go. Thanks for the inspiration of thought you've given me !

Ive found lazy susans at garage sales and thrift stores for a couple bucks. I use the spinner hardware and usually toss the rest, unless it's wood - then, well, we all know that throwing away wood is not easy, so...

Draw lines connecting each corner through the center point. Then arrange the mounting screw holes on those line. Much easier way to center the lazy Susan base.

Easier than simply setting a combination square that took 30 seconds? Different I'll agree. I'm not agreeing it's easier.

If you were going to use the CNC to cut the circle, couldn’t you have added the center point to the digital cut file? Come to think of it, couldn’t you have skipped the center point and just added pilot holes for the lazy susan hardware? I’m still learning the CNC side of things so I might be missing something , but I know in Illustrator, I can draw a circle, draw a square, and then use align tools to center them perfectly to each other.

Yes and I did. But I have to make sure I'm cutting in the relative center of my workpiece too. I'm cutting a 22" circle in a 23" square. If I don't align and set my X, Y axis to my center point on the workpiece then I could end up cutting my circle and running off the workpiece.
