All Members of Parliament know the Speaker's name. It's parliamentary protocol that they have to refer to him as Mr. Speaker. Also, by rule, the leaders debating cannot speak to each other directly. As such, they have to talk to the Speaker, since he's the one controlling who gets to talk. It's archaic and batshit, I know, but it is how it is.

British politics has always had an air of theatre about it, given its adversarial nature.
@randyjones3050
Жыл бұрын
A big difference is that the Congress was originally envisioned as being a collegial body and not adversarial. That's why the House and Senate chambers are semi-circle shaped and not a bench design as in the U.K. Parliament. The intention was to encourage deliberative discussion rather than screaming matches between different party factions. Many of the framers of the U.S. constitution had a distaste for party politics and wanted to avoid bitter partisanship in government. Unfortunately, reality turned out much different than the original vision. However, that original seed of collegiality is still baked into the culture of the Congress which is why their debates are generally much more restrained than debates in governments with parliamentary systems.

@@jaydemirhan2197 train drivers earn more in the UK vs any where in the world. It’s a joke. We can’t set up an automated system easily due to these strikes, due to fear of losing jobs. They’re not undercut but their wage is inflated which everyone knows if they really researched this.
I wished Nigerian politicians take it this seriously. Let’s really know their priorities and intentions. Lying under that kind of pressure has to be hard 😅
Unbelievable!
So entertaining for a citizen of the EU to watch.

As a citizen of the EU as well, I feel bad for those British people who got their EU citizenship deprived by those, who were (mostly) deceived by their own government.

That is the best part. Now here everything is not well but at the very least it is not this level of laughable. We got enough problems but you get the feeling these issues are taken care of - often too late and above budget but we keep marching on. Over the channel in the meantime: Red nose is the only thing missing from the costume.

“I’m a fighter not a quitter “ girl is so ironic and can never keep to her words 😂😂😂
Best opening by Starmer, 😂, because of him I started watching British parliament debates, it is highly entertainment
The way she repeated those words twice make it twice funnier too🤣
Being "A fighter and not a quitter" seems to have really aged well in 24hrs
How could I be laughing so hard for the first 12 seconds in the video?
This is like a high school debate. People are laughing, cheering and booing each other 😆
British politics is so direct. I love it. No hiding in that house.

I watched the full thing and I didn't even realise cause I was laughing so hard 😭. These are the people we trust to run our country a bunch of grown women and men who throw shade at eachother talking about political matters. If u watch the full thing u can see the other members slightly talking with the opposite side throwing shade
