But then, he started scoring braces in May and June, then next thing we knew, he's leading Europe in assists with 14 and leads PSG in gl contributions. Then won Cup, and golden ball? I've never seen any athlete make such a comeback in the history of sports, and winning the most difficult tournament ever at 35 yrs old!!! This is astounding!!!

He had just become a regular for Argentina and was greatly outdone by Kaka. 2008 was. CR7’s year. 2009-2012 were dominated by Messi 2013 Ribery was the best player. And Ronaldo outdid Messi reward wise. 2014 Ronaldo outdid him again reward wise and Neuer and Ronaldo had a better year. 2015 Messi dominated 2016-2017 Ronaldo dominated again 2018 Griezzman, Modric & Ronaldo were the best players. 2019 was a Messi domination year. Though honestly tied with Virgil Van Dijk. 2020 was Lewandowski’s year of dominance. 2021 was Messi’s time again though honestly tied with Lewandowski. 2022 was Messi’s year. what makes u think hes not the best of All Time? he hasnt proved himself in other leagues? hes cooking at Ligue 1 rn. Do u still think its a farmers league? Stoke City and Brighton arent as good as Lille and Lyon. He scored 25+ goals against Top 6 Prems teams too. Hes only a couple of goals behind 'CL King' Cristiano. He won the World Cup, is about to win his first CL title outside Barça if PSG managed to keep their form. Most likely to win his EIGHT Ballon Dor this year, etc.

Watching Lio lift the cup for Argentina was something out of a dream for me, for so long i had that desire, but now he got it, he is a World Champion, no other player deserved to have this cup more than him. A living legend.

He is loved for his humility, charisma, his leadership qualities, sexiness, coolness etc that just aside from his football skills.

Every other player who has played with him has never said anything improper. They always compliment him on his modesty and down-to-earth demeanor. He is the best football player. I'm really happy to be an Argentine supporter.

The guy is about to win his EIGHT Ballon Dor, about to win CL outside Barça if PSG managed to keep their form, about to catch Cristianos CL goals tally, just won a f*cking World Cup with Argentina, is Argentinas all-time leading goalscorer, almost has 800 career goals, along with 300+ assists, and many more. Messi has that type of talent that transcends football to the extent even people who don’t know football can appreciate his mastery of the game. He is so much better than the rest of the field that even a novice can see that. Messi makes modern footballers look like beginners. And all of the athletes on the pitch Messi plays against are great athletes with immense skill. And that’s a lot of what separates Messi from Pele and Maradona. Messi is amazing against great and skilled athletes. With talent being raw ability and skill being touch and mastery of the ball gleaned through time and experience working on foot skills. Whereas in Pele’s and Maradona’s era, the athletes were lesser and less skilled. Not to knock older eras. Pele and Maradona were that much better than the players of their era as Messi is that much better relative to players in his era. But the difference is, the athletes in Messi’s era are vastly more talented and skilled than the average player in Pele’s and Maradona’s era. That is unequivocal. And we know that because of statistics. The number of football players today is exponentially greater than in Pele’s era. The participation rate today relative to Pele’s era is 14 times greater. Meaning in today’s game you will get vastly more and better talent. And the training in today’s era is immensely more intense and better. With most pro footballers starting Academy at age 8 and have a football at their feet for half the day. So while Pele and Maradona had that type of skill and expertise, because of their own will and love of the game, they were still playing against players who didn’t have near the skill or talent of the modern player. So which is more impressive, slicing through the great and skilled defenders of today’s era, or doing the same against defenders of yesteryear-most of whom couldn’t play for a D league? Messi, Messi, Messi. We will likely never see a player who is this far ahead of the competition.

I don't think they were lesser in earlier days. You had the Mighty Magyars led by Ferenc Puskas. They're still one of the best international teams. Brazil had great players like Garrincha, there were great British players, Stanley Mathews, George Best, Charleton, Rooney, etc. etc.

I’m saying the entire competitive field from top to bottom is better, far better today than in the past. Again, there are exponentially more players today than then. With that type of numbers you’ll get far more talent as it pulls from a far larger pool. The worst players in today’s leagues would be far and above the worst players in leagues past. That’s just a function of statistics.

Everyone loves him because he is so humble even though he is soooo famous and rich.

One of the greatest of all time, the way he sees and plays the game is just simply beautiful. He knows how to get unmatched scoring and assists records whilst still entertaining the whole stadium. Every time the ball gets to his feet I inch forward on my couch, expecting something magical to happen. He apparently once said to Neymar to convince him to stay at Barcelona "You want to win the Ballon D'or? I'll make you win it!" And the funny thing is, he would actually be able to do that.

Agreed. He is a beautiful human being. But he does have his haters. There are pple out there who hate him, who are vicious. You should read the comments, esp. after he won his 7th Ballon d'or.

His discipline, drive, and Hard work is so so underrated. Everyone say's Genius (yes he is and gifted with God's given talent), but he also beautifully adopted, updated himself every season bit by bit, as he grew. He play's according to the game, to where team is lacking in offensive. His freekicks weren't good nor were his penalty takes, but he worked on them.. even though he may not have scored often in free kicks but most of them just slide past the post or hit them. His passing ability has also reached its peak, by working on it. He may be genius (not of this earth) but he also has the drive, passion and hard-work matching Cristiano, because Cristiano is the best of humans.

I hate to bring Ronaldo into the picture but he's the closest "rival" to Messi so bear with me. The analogy I think of is Ronaldo is like a tornado, powerful and deadly but very narrow in terms of his attack. As a defender, you can focus on Ronaldo and although he can pass, he's not known for that. Messi is like a hurricane, equally powerful but his threat cuts such a broad path since he can pass to 2-3 other teammates, on the left, on the right, even behind him. Some of his passes are to teammates that are outside of the defender's and goal keeper's peripheral vision. I think a commenter once said it's like Messi has a helicopter's vision from above. If you're a viewer watching a movie, you're impressed by the main actor's action like Ronaldo but you're blown away by a movie that has plot twists that involve other characters and personally, I think Messi brings to your TV/screen.
