Why Is It Impossible To Make A Good Hulk Movie?

Ойын-сауық

Over the years The Incredible Hulk has seen several attempts at a solo Hulk outing. Some have been more successful than others, but with the rights to the iconic character spread thin, the MCU has yet to give us a stand alone Hulk movie. Why has Marvel Studios been unable to produce a standalone Hulk movie? And will we ever see Bruce Banner in his own movie?

I want to see the Hulk movie that truly understands what the Hulk represents. In the comics at least, the Hulk wasn't just the symbol of testosterone and rage. He was a manifestation of suppressed childhood abuse. Banner's father was an abusive alcoholic, and the Hulk is that abused child, using all that rage to defend itself from the world. He can not coexist with the Hulk until he learns to accept that deep rooted trauma. It's why he's one of my all time favorite characters. For the record, I've seen the 2003 Hulk and it's still my favorite of the films. But I still have serious problems with it and would love to see them take the ideas and build off it to make what I think could be truly spectacular.

I know many like to criticise the Incredible Hulk (2008) movie, but I genuinely like it and think it is an underrated gem in the MCU. I'll admit it is not as psychologically deep as the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk movie, but it works to show the duality between the physical raw power of the Hulk and Bruce Banner as a character. They need to take the character back and remember what made the Hulk an iconic character: his rage, duality and mental conflict. The 2008 and 2003 Hulk movies excel at exploring different sides of the character in two separate movies. The 2008 Incredible Hulk movie explores the raw savage and duality of the Hulk's character. The 2003 Ang Lee Hulk movie explores the psychological torment and childhood trauma of the Hulk's/Bruce's character and how multi-faceted he is. Both these movies excel at different aspects of the character but only get half of the character right. If we had a Hulk movie that demonstrates how multifaceted and complex the character is while retaining the action-packed savage and raw power of the Hulk's character in a movie, then it could possibly be the greatest Hulk movie to date.

There's nothing wrong with him wanting a good script, very few actors like him are willing to be outspoken and holding on to what they believe is right. I'm glad he stayed away, especially with the big mess that is Disney and the MCU these days and the way they completely destroyed the Hulk they got now. Mark Ruffalo is nothing but a patsy at this point and he'll just trudge along with whatever ridiculousness they're asking him to do as Hulk. Ang Lee's Hulk movie is great.. As people say, it has its own problems, but more people appreciate it as time passes by... My biggest gripe with those who shit on the movie is how little research they do before typing stuff online.. The action scenes were short and the story had to be dragged because of the budget but Ang Lee knew his assignment and captured the essence of Hulk perfectly... I never hated the movie even watching it for the first time.. I only complained about the action being short or too dark, but on rewatch and current technology, watching his fights at night is actually awesome... We can talk about everything else about the movie, but he's the closest to the comics when it comes to abilities and power... Just one example; How many superheroes get nuked?? Those are crucial moments in his life and I'd like to see more of it onscreen. I agree. I know many like to criticise the movie, but I genuinely like it and think it is an underrated gem in the MCU. I'll admit it is not as psychologically deep as the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk movie, but it works to show the duality between the physical raw power of the Hulk and Bruce Banner as a character. They really need to take the character back and remember what made the Hulk an iconic character, his rage, duality and mental conflict.

I didnt mind the Ang lee version, it was slow paced but as the character is so limited in story layers, he turns green & just smashes things up (even in the comics) slower pacing seemed to mean a slower approach worked I thought. there seemed to be a lot of emphasis on the desert nuclear test like symbolism, and a lot about philosophy, they understood THE HULK wasnt the point, BANNER was, and it was as much about confronting his past as it was action set pieces. Also the extra story layers worked - Banner's phychotic father with his god complex, experimenting on his own son, & the big ruthless business guy (although a big corporate stereotype) tied in with General Ross

I actually like the ang Lee hulk movie and I saw it in theaters but I can agree it would be more expensive to bring the the actual hulk to life cause of all it would take to create the character alone and professor hulk that showed up in endgame wasn’t even like by comic fans when the comics did it I doubt we see another hulk project any time soon not because of rights issues but cause it doesn’t feel like they want to address the elephant in the room and factor in the infinity saga characters that are still around at this point

The incredible Hulk is still the best Hulk representation physically and a walking powerhouse. It was THE solo Hulk movie THAT showed a jaded and angry Hulk that kinda continues Ang Lee's Hulk arc who was good in a comic way like the child mentality of the hulk but got Tired as time passed by the time we see Norton's Hulk. Guess they didn't want to continue with Norton cause he was really hard to handle since he is very hands-on with his material and Disney or marvel didn't like that.

The real reason is Hulk and Namor for that matter, are still owned by universal and marvel made a deal with them. The deal was you can use these characters as much as you want but you can’t give them solo projects.

Yea those 2003 pre-disney era marvel movies had something of a charm in that aspect even if they were cheesy or cringe , it added to the movies appeal. We as fans shouldn't have gotten greedy and expected all movies to be like spiderman and rejected all others. And kinda shows that we don't really appreciate something till it's lost after watching disnefication of Marvel brand.

Their only chance of redeeming Hulk would be if they did a prequel movie like Black Widow and showed the time between Age of Ultron and Ragnarok, with him meeting Valkerie getting into the Sakaar tournaments and probably defeating some bully champion like the Red King. That's the character's ONLY HOPE!

It’s a little too late for this type of movie to be made because Bruce combined with the hulk but for a non-origin hulk story I think showing the struggle Bruce banner faces on a daily basis of fighting the urge and anger of turning into the hulk and then finally accepting what he is and giving into the hulk and the rage in an effort to protect people and do good. Throughout the course of all the Marvel movies we haven’t really seen the struggle and fear of the hulk that Bruce would face daily

The Hulk is one of my favorite heroes in Marvel Comics because like Wolverine, he went through childhood trauma. Because of the abuse he endured by his father, the Hulk has existed within Bruce Banner's mind and is a part of Bruce Banner's psyche. What the MCU needs to do is to Hulk become the unpredictable, rampaging, savage beast that we know and love.

Not sure if it's an unpopular opinion but it is my opinion, the problem with all the Hulk movies is that they focus on him being vulnerable to Betty Ross, even though I like both the 2003 and 2008 movies, they were kinda boring regarding the storyline around Betty Ross. One of the best scenes involving Hulk I think is during the first Avengers movie, when Hulk actually transforms and it's.. scary. He's shown as a force that cannot be stopped, something that while he can fight for the good guys, at his core he is a monster. I love the Ragnorak movie, I'm not alone here, but after hearing hints about it prior to its release I genuinely thought it was going to be a Planet Hulk movie - showing the more "uncontrollable" side of Hulk - followed by a World War Hulk. I genuinely thought we'd get a phase after Thanos that had Hulk as the unstoppable villain which would have been an incredible and thrilling twist both for comic fans and MCU fans.

There's all kinds of debate back and forth between the '03 and '08 films, and what's been done with the character since, but none of that is the real problem. Hulk is basically a werewolf story - regular guy turns into monster when conditions are met, doesn't remember what he did during that time, tries to resolve his problem. There's only so many times/ways you can tell that story with the same character/actor. Studio/production issues aside, the way they used him through the MCU was probably the best compromise.

Stan Lee outright said Hulk was just his own Frankenstein mixed with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Bruce Banner is like Victor Frankenstein - a scientist ashamed of his monster - and Dr Jekyll - a good natured scientist trying to control his monster side. The Hulk is like Frankensteins monster - a misunderstood innocent monster - and Mr Hyde - a scary violent spit personality monster.

I think I speak for a lot of folks when I say my deepest connection with the hulk came not from the comics but from the terrific Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk TV series. That magical piano theme for David Banner n the remaking of the Hulk myth as a man who lost his wife due to his lack of strength, the tragic loneliness that David/Hulk has being unable to escape the tragic circumstance of his Hulk self. Hulk, as portrayed by Ferrigno is often seen as the victim, provoked by villains n hunted down by the police/army. That's the hulk backstory that we all fell in love with. N not the comic book myth. The hulk became huge worldwide not becos of the comics but becos of the TV series. Lou as hulk was always sad n confused as he ran away fr persecution n ppl who hated him. Lou carried out physically the emotional id of Bill Bixby n the alchemy of the two performances made for a very beloved hulk, like how u felt for king kong when he got hunted dwn. That's one of the reasons why Edward Norton wanted his hulk to hue closer to Bill Bixby's TV vers. In order to make a Hulk movie work, u need to start from the tragedy of Bruce Banner's life n not the Hulk slam comical 2D comic story of Hulk.

My problem is that since the Avengers, Hulk has become more recognised on earth as a good guy since working with the team and acknowledged for saving the world like in Endgame, not to mention make peace with Bruce Banner off-screen. This would mean Hulk would have to do something very drastic to change everyone's minds to become the monster again that we all know him for and be exiled from earth to start the future Hulk instalments.

Seems pretty straightforward for MCU: Savage Hulk in 2021 - show his time spent on Sakaar when he talks with McGee reporter, introduce Langkowski and the Pantheon group (Hector, Achilles, Paris, Ulysses, Delphi, Titania), explain how he became Prof Green (with ponytail & bunny slippers) after a confrontation with Wendigo, maybe also have an AbsorbingMan appearance (Phase 3 set before Endgame) Immortal Hulk in 2024 - Leader transforms Betty into Harpy, when she is presumed dead Bruce tries to end his life but he returns at night with a bald Devil Hulk and grey Joe Fixit personality, featuring Dr Samson, Rick, Marla (Jones life story in flashbacks). At the end have him become the rampaging monster that sets up WWH with T-bolts etc. And the green guy finally has his trilogy.

I liked Edward Norton the best as Bruce Banner. He looked so small and unthreatening on the surface, but you could see intense anger boiling underneath. The script for that movie was bad, and I'm sure Norton is partially to blame for that. Ruffalo is too beefy under normal circumstances, so his transformation into the Hulk is not as shocking. The concept of the Hulk is only complex enough to carry one movie. He was a great sort of wildcard villain for the first half of _The Avengers _ , but then he suddenly gain complete control and ever since they haven't known what to do with him. The interesting thing about the Hulk is you never know when he's going to get set off and transform. Once he has that under control, his story is over.

Hulk as well as Banner peaked with Norton’s portrayal in The Incredible Hulk. Granted it didn’t work out between him and the studio, but nothing Ruffalo’s done since has elevated or enhanced the character. If anything, Norton showed that he respected the lore and character, whereas Disney/Marvel/Ruffalo are doing anything they can to drag it all through the mud. It’s embarrassing what they’ve done to our boy
