I lived in Albuquerque for a few years and the homicide rate and everything tripled, I was scared to walk out to the store past 8 pm because drugged up people would come out of nowhere harassing me. I left, not worth having a car either or much at all, stay poor in ABQ it's the best defense.

I moved from California to Albuquerque in the late 80s. The housing market was insane, jobs didn't pay, taxes were high. Crime rate was climbing. Moved to Texas in 93, no regrets. Housing is relatively cheap, good paying jobs, no state taxes, crime rates vary by city. But i do so much miss the mountains and sunsets, and the beautiful adobe house that I lived in.

Your videos made us decide on moving here back in 2022! On our second home purchase here now in Rio Rancho. When we left, most folks thought New Mexico was actually Mexico or they thought there was meth everywhere. Someone literally told me, "but what about you're kids" as if terrified for them LOL. I'm glad people are naïve in general about NM, keeps the population down! Adding, we are looking to downsize but have land in the foothills nearby in 2 years, maybe I will hit you up to help us!

I got shot by a gangbanger in the '90's near Menaul & San Mateo. I grew up in Albuquerque in the "70's & '80's, always loved the great weather, food, hiking & biking, live music, but getting shot was the last straw! I moved away in the mid '90's and have never returned. But then Breaking Bad came out and put Albuquerque on the map, and it stirred up my curiosity about ABQ again. Now I find myself watching videos about Albuquerque, and missing my friends, but not missing the ongoing crime issues. One day I might visit again, who knows...😏

I grew up in between Albuquerque and San Diego in the 90s. My parents left (we were living in some really rough areas of both cities) and moved out east in 2000. About 2012, I decided to move back to Albuquerque. Not the best decision I ever made. 😅 I lived in Albuquerque again from 2012 until 2015 and it was pretty rough. It's a poor city with a stagnate economy. Either you're doing really well or you're struggling terribly. The jobs (unless you have a degree, which I do not, that's on me for not finishing college) are hard to come by and from what I was able to get (don't get me wrong, I was always looking and trying to find better opportunities) paid very little, had next to no benefits, and one was lucky to get 40 hours a week. Everywhere I went seemed to want someone available around the clock for part time hours. Which is absurd. Add in the violence and the amount of homeless/mentally ill/drug addicts/ _undesirables_ moving away from Central Ave. into other parts of the city made it more depressing as time went on. I was able to save enough money to get out and move to Austin, Texas and I'm glad I did. So, unless Albuquerque has done a complete transformation in the nearly 10 years since I left, I really don't see what's so appealing about that city. Don't get me wrong, it's not a completely horrible place to live, it has it's qualities too. I just don't see how a city with so many issues can have such a turnaround in such a short amount of time. Doesn't seem possible.

Teach your little girls to read and write so they will graduate from that best HS. Also - send them to a private elementary school.

California experienced a mass exodus. Too expensive, rents are too high, everything is taxed (including a potential homeless tax and or transgender tax etc) and of course the crime. However Ca has decent medical and even has medi-cal for those who qualify. We moved from ca to Nevada (vegas) for the tax breaks. Health care sucks. AZ healthcare is about the same and NM is pretty bad with healthcare as well. AZ also treats its homeless population awful! Texas actually treats its homeless better believe it or not. And that not saying much! We considered NM but the healthcare is not great, not alot of restuarants there that are diverse and the crime rate is pretty bad. Not to mention the lack of jobs unlesss you have a PHD. Plan to visit for sure soon, but dont think my husband and I could make that work out there on his pension. Necrophelia?! lolll. omg. My only question about New Mexico would be, is NM as flat as texas?

@@AllAboutABQ Skip, what are the pet laws there in NM or ABQ? do all pets need to be licensed and get re-licensed every year?
