I always feel like animals have a way of knowing their time is coming and telling their people. In his last days of life, my bunny groomed himself while sitting in my lap and groomed me multiple times, neither of which he had ever done in his 12.5 years of life. Mocha knew his time was coming and gave you a beautiful memory before he passed. I’m very sorry for your loss ♥️

That's lovely to read. I lost my darling mini lop, Chamomile, this year - he was 12 years old. He passed from old age, and he had bad arthritis so we were going through physiotherapy, acupuncture, laser therapy. I feel like we bonded even more this past year, which made it more painful to say goodbye to him, but as always, it's worth it to have the love of such a gorgeous, wonderful creature and enjoy a beautiful relationship for so long.

I rather distrust the dolled up bunny influencers. They are not performers. I have been a performer for years and just because you have a camera in your home and YT does not make one a singer or actor. I feel like they use their bunny for fane and $ as opposed to sharing their bunny or wisdom.

I found your channel because my daughter now owns a rabbit. She is probably about the same age as you. I rarely comment on KZread, but THANK YOU for being transparent and brave in telling your story of your mental health issues. I know for sure this video has, and will continue to, help others who have anxiety, depression, or any other brain chemistry disorder that so many humans experience. Also - kudus for ditching the hair and make up. I am not against someone doing their hair or make up, but you should do it because YOU want to do it. How your hair, skin, or nails look is not related to how valuable you are. What makes you wonderful is not how you look on camera (or in person). What makes you special is that there has never been, nor will there ever be again, YOU. You are the only person who can leave a "you-shaped" mark on the world around you. Now I am going to buy some of your merch to support!!

i completely understand where you're coming from. one of my rabbits is a holland lop (deaf too) and i really don't think i could ever own another one again. he's only 2 but when he had barely turned 1 he got super sick and the vets had trouble figuring out why. we brought him to the vet bc he was having balance issues and kept falling over and flailing and at the time she told us "oh he has a deep inner ear infection, here's medicine for that" so we took him home and two weeks later he was much worse. he couldn't even stand up, i had to have him sat between two pillows inside of an old laundry basket bc if he wasn't sandwhiched between something he would just roll forever. took him back to the vet and they ran some tests and told us he most likely had e cuniculi, which was super hard to hear. They gave us medicine and said if he didn't improve within 2 weeks he would probably pass away. Which was awful to hear bc he had JUST turned 1 yr old. He was so sick he couldn't eat, drink, use the restroom by himself. I literally had to syringe feed him water and critical care every half hour for almost a month straight. I am honestly surprised he survived, i didn't think he would. But by a miracle he made a full recovery, he doesn't even have a head tilt anymore. I'm so glad he did recover but i never want to go through something like that again. I've owned dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, rats, bugs, and i've never had to go through something like that with a pet. It was terrible. This turned into a very long comment but yeah owning lops is not easy and i wish people would have told me about all the complications they can have before i got one.

My first rabbit was a lop. He was a rescue and had "snuffles" when I got him which my vet treated with penicillin injections. He was great for awhile and then got a horrible ear infection which got worse and worse. (Lops are suseptable to ear infections because the way their ears flop over causes the era canal to be permanently closed which encourages infection). After months of antibiotics he ended up having a lateral wall canal ablasion on each ear followed by a total ear canal ablasion in each ear-difficult and potentially painful operational proceedures. He was at the vets for weeks for pain control and then came home. His little bunny wife (not a lop) was with him throughout to keep him company. The vets made many mistakes (I wont go into here)including not enough antibiotic protection. He was pts shortly after coming home- the infection remained and there was nothing else the vet could do. I was devistated after everything he had been through and all the assurances from the vet that "he would be ok" I have since fostered two lop girls both elderly and both with eye issues. I was their "retirement home" and they were to stay with me for the rest of their lives. One was pts as the eye issue had many complications and the other girl is on permanent eye drops. I agree 100% that the ethics of lop breeding is questionable. They are adorable but come with a whole host of potential health issues

@@Mythical4227 Yes it's so sad, I loved my girl Layla more than I ever thought possible to love anyone, but watching her suffer with re-occuring ear infections and eventually have to be pts because of her breed sure does make me feel a type of way towards those who breed rabbits for aesthetics, completely disregarding the inherent health issues that come with the breed. Yes, they may be cute and charming and have the most delightful personalities, but given the choice I really do think lops should go extinct because no animal deserves to suffer like my Layla did, it's just not worth it.

Thank you for sharing your story. At the end December it'll be a year since our lop boy passed away. He was super healthy, even had his blood checked, just in case, vaciinated, perfect bunny diet. Then, in just a few hours, a vet visit and sudden death, right in front of our eyes . He was just 3. It really broke and traumatized us. And no one around understood how we could grieve for a rabbit like this. He was our little buddy, always happy and loving, a literal ray of sunshine even on darkest of our days. And to see that ray of light convulse in pain and die, and you can do nothing to stop it.. it changes you forever. I never heard my boyfriend scream like this. Poor Mocha. Thank you so much for talking about it! It helps others, like me! I had an awful experience with several lops. For some reason, I am drawn to broken black lops. My sweetest bunny ever was Wilbur. 🐰 He was so loving! He actually loved for me to hold him like a baby! He would lay on his back in my arms and soak up all the lovin I could give him. It made my husband so jealous! Around age 8 he started with a head wobble. Then his right eye started bulging out of his face. He had a lot of goopy eye that became impossible to keep clean. The vet we took him to gave him a pain killer called tramadol, which Wilbur had a bad reaction to. His whole face swelled up for about 10 hours. My sweet Wilbur will always be in my ♥️. Our next bunny was Wally. He was the smartest and biggest bunny I ever had. He started with digestive issues at age 6 and didn’t last much longer. We never knew why. To this day, I feel so guilty because I don’t know what caused him to get sick. Did he get ahold of something on his own or did I feed him something that made him sick? Currently, we have a 2 year old spitfire named Tobias. He’s the biggest challenge we’ve had yet in a bunny, but also our daily entertainment. He tries to act so tough but loves to fall asleep in our arms. 💤 Owning any pet can be traumatizing, I know. But it’s also the natural cycle of life. I will always have animals because life is short and seems empty without the joy and love they bring.

I‘ve had lionhead bunnies since forever. When I was still in middle school, one bun I had, Felix, started drinking excessively, and I mean really a lot. Took the vet some time to find his kidneys were failing. He still lived for at least 1 year, but at last I had to put him down as he wasn’t eating or drinking anymore. I was holding hin when the vet gave him the injection and he slowly passed away. I think it was the right thing to do so he would feel save in his last moments, but I’m still not completely fine even after so many years. I do have bunnies even now, but i became overly cautious with their health.

I totally get it. One of our rabbits, Daisy, had a chronic health issue that caused her to go into stasis frequently and the vets could never figure out the cause. She would go through it multiple times a year and I got pretty desperate toward the last few years of her life. I started to learn about megacolon in rabbits in my own research but she passed unexpectedly before I had the chance to bring that up to her vet so I don't know if that's what it was. She was 9.5 years old at the time and had gone through it for at least 6 years. I still get stressed out thinking about her eating and everything. We had even started keeping a food journal for her to try and figure out if something like a specific veggie was causing it.

I now own a lop for the 1st time which i bought from a breeder last year August. Only after i read they are more prone to health issues but i constantly check his ears from past experience. Having pets you never know what health issues they may develop its hard having to put them through the ringer with vet visits and the treatment its as though we experience their pain with all the injections, surgery etc its really tough i try my best to limit injections with my bun unless i really don't have a choice.

Thank u so much for this video. My first was a holland lop that a friend gifted me. I had no clue about what a rabbit needs and all things rabbit. It was a learning process for both of us but we bonded and I started enjoying the joys of being a bunny momma. I got him fixed around a year old and the vet I chose was who I used later. I noticed one day he wasn't wanting to eat also he wasn't pooping much. I called the vet in a panic and long story short we were at that vet first thing in the morning but they recommended that he go to an emergency vet. He was in serious gi stasis and stayed 2 nights at the emergency place. Shortly after he recovered from that he started getting large cyst like spots on his face. We would do surgery to drain it then antibiotics and it would work bit then it would pop up in another spot in his face. He ended up 3 draining surgeries and so many antibiotics we tried he even was on shots it just wasn't clearing up. He started showing signs of the snuffles so I took him to another vet that found out what was going on was his teeth they were so overgrown they were in his sinuses effecting his breathing and he didn't want to eat I was feeding him critical care for the last bit. The new vet made a plan for care and I took him backa few days later. My boy his name is Benny but he was such a trooper and so strong. Not even an hour after I dropped him off they called and said he wasn't doing good. They hadn't even done much but he couldn't handle the meds. They called right back and said he was stable then the vet called and asked if she could take him home for the weekend for round the clock care. Then about 20 minutes later they called needing my permission to put him to sleep. They said he was really having a hard time. Im crying now writing this bc im still so heart broken over it. I wish that I had went to the other vet sooner and it kills me to think he was so sick. I never thought when I dropped him off that it would be the last time I would get to be with him. Benny was only 3 and a half I feel like I was robbed of sweet time with him. He was such a special boy and I never imagined having a pet rabbit and being so attached. I think it's funny that people that are crazy over rabbits are so much alike. They have special names and how much you buy them and spoil them. Rabbits are very special animals.

Im sorry you had such an upsetting last bit with Mocha. :/ He clearly had a great life with you, & was able to pass at home, not being poked or bothered in a vets office-thats a beautiful thing. 🌸 I think my rabbit had the first seizure i know of tonight. Its def upsetting for sure. :/ Hes a 3 pound 13 year old netherland dwarf who doesnt look elderly at all. He developed a small we think benign mammary tumor ~2+ years ago thats now the size of a softball. Apparently he has a slight age-related heart murmur & a bit of arthritis. But is still doing all the hallmarks of wanting to be here: peeing/pooping/eating/fastidious grooming/seeking + enjoying affection/enjoying treats/telling me off occasionally when i have to do something he doesnt like/getting excited and mini zoomies. Tonight he got upset, started erratically running, stopping, then tipping/falling over 5-6 times. He was leaning over heavily to one side + splaying. He tucked himself into a corner he never goes to and i laid down with him petting him reassuring him he was safe & to try to relax, that it was ok to go & how much I loved him. I couldnt easily tell his heart-rate as he was shivering with atypical slightly labored quick breathing. I presumed it was tachychardia/a heart attack because he has a heart murmur and that he was actively dying. And then 10-15 mins later, he just snapped out of it as suddenly as it started. Went right back to grooming & munching kale as if nothing happened. Swear hes gonna outlive us all. 😂 I Hope he passes at home. I dont want him to go, he was my first animal & had such a pitiful unfair start & I've had him since he was trashed after Easter 13 years ago. But if he's going to, would prefer it be at home, so he can just “go to sleep” in his own familiar environment. Its really hard for sure. :/ Im hoping he passes at home so hes not being bothered or nervous about a stranger/artificial death. If he appears to be suffering/really not happy, obviously will do that, but am trying to avoid it. Hes shockingly healthy + spritely with still quite healthy muscle tone and strength. I feel like itll be clear if he doesnt want to do this anymore. Rabbit roommates are def a special breed of highly empathetic folks.

We had a Holland lop and Mocha’s end of life story is similar to my Pringles’. My doc also found an inner ear infection…his vet told us that what we called “seizures” was more than likely vertigo. We gave him Meclizine but he couldn’t stay upright for very long and we had to hand feed. He lived for another month and died in my arms with my kids around him. He was 9-10 years old. Best.bunny.ever and I miss him everyday.😭😭😭

It's perfectly understandable, especially considering how much you invested yourself in his care! I've been in a similar situation with my girl lop from Aug 2014 to Aug 2016, during which time she was on and off sick with head tilt and hind end paresis. I also later had a rabbit with severe seizures, vet thought was lymphoma... Losing them both was devastating. But so far my worst and most traumatic loss is that of my foster baby whom I wanted to adopt. She passed away 10 days after her spay and an autopsy showed no definite reason... She was only 6 months and was, as far as we know, healthy. Like Mocha, she too ate the morning of the day she passed by seizure, and she hadn't eaten on her own for days before. I was so happy and thought she was on the way to recovery...

God, I can’t imagine what it was like to live like that for over a year - I’m so sorry 💔 you were such an incredible bunny mom to Mocha, though. I had somewhat of a similar situation with my first (and only) 3 yr old bun Morrison over the summer. He’s a lionhead and has had several “mini” GI episodes- usually over his heavy shedding season during summertime. In June, it was the WORST. One day he was fine, and the next he was dying. He was hospitalized at an emergency vet hospital for 5 days, which cost at least $1700 for all of his treatment/tests. Eventually they found out that the GI episode was most likely caused by tiny dental spurs on his molars. They shaved those down, and he’s been fine ever since! But the entire experience was so traumatic for both of us - and every day, I still think about it. If he’s acting slightly “off” (which is usually me just being paranoid), I freak out and watch him all day to his chagrin lol. I wish yours could have been a happy ending too, but he had an amazing life with you! I hope Morrison makes it to 8 years, 10 years… Maybe 27 years like his namesake 😅

My daughter pestered us both to have a mini lop, We eventually gave in and got a mini lop we named him frank and we have had him for around 7yrs during those years we have found out he is riddled with arthritis but on medication to help him he has had a couple of cyst under his chin which was treated and cured, We had to have his front teeth removed due to them not been able to wear down plus growing awkwardly, Frank has stolen my heart I would not be without him he is a wonderful mini lop and fantastic as a house rabbit, He has recently had one what I would call a fit but since then gone back to normal, He has the freedom of the house which I believe an animal should not be caged up 24/7, On average is out of his cage at least 12 hrs a day, He loves laying on the sofa with me and falling asleep, I think you done an amazing thing your rabbit he would have known you loved him so much, When frank passes away we have decided to keep his ashes in a box with a picture of him I could not bare putting in a whole I always think when you do that you forget about the wonderful pet you had, Once again thanks for your u-tube video and was inspiring to watch and I do hope one day you will get another mini lop.

Thanks for this video Haley! This was actually really timely because I have been testing one of my rabbits for mystery symptoms over the last couple days. I’ve gone to two different vets within the last 24 hours. It appears to be a combination of an inner ear infection and E Cuniculi. (He is a lop bunny) he is now on an antibiotic and an anti parasitic med as are the bunnies he is bonded to, because E. Cuniculi is contagious. Right now I’m just praying he lives and my other bunnies don’t get sick. I enjoyed this video! I liked the relaxed style. I’m glad you didn’t let any insecurities about makeup keep you from filming. I am so sorry!! I totally understand how you were feeling... (long post lol!) So I had owned guinea pigs for many many years. I have gone through deaths of them many times. I had wanted a skinny pig (hairless guinea pig) for years but could never find one at any rescues. When there finally was one available, I of course adopted him. It was the best day ever. I had been looking for one for about 5 or 6 years. I was so excited and happy. He was only 2 years old so I assumed I was going to get to enjoy him for many years. I had him for 2 months when he passed away out of nowhere. It was so sudden and unexpected. I cried so hard and was just in shock. I hated and blamed myself. I had lost so many guinea pigs before, but all were from old age and were expected. I thought it was all my fault and thought that I must have done something wrong since he was a skinny pig and I had never owned one before. I thought did I not feed him enough? Was he cold? What did I do!? I had to leave all my skinny pig groups on Facebook because seeing pictures of them made me cry and made me hate myself all over again. I thought I could never own one again because it would be too hard. I went a few years with just my furry guinea pigs when I decided I was ready for another skinny. I joined my skinny pig groups on Facebook again and that same day there was a lady just 2 hours from me looking to rehome her 2 bonded 8 week old pigs, one being a skinny. She had just got them a week earlier but her landlord told her she couldn't have them. I of course jumped on the opportunity and got them both. It was like it was meant to be. I have had them for a year and a half now. Having Nala (my current skinny) has helped me so much. I have realized that Liam's death (my first skinny) was not my fault at all. I'm doing everything the exact same care wise with Nala as I was with Liam and she is doing amazing. Liam must have just had terrible genetics which is common with skinnies. Nala has made me not be sad when I see hairless piggies, but instead feel happy. I no longer associate bad things with skinnies. Nala has helped me SO MUCH mentally! For YEARS I was blaming myself for Liam's death and beating myself up about it DAILY! I am so happy and grateful those days are behind me!!!

I'm sorry to hear you are so upset about the death of your rabbit. Mine too lived until she was 8 and a half, she died of cancer. I get her when I was 11, my sister had a Dutch English cross and she lived for over 10 years! When my first rabbit died, I just knew. She would not want me to be unhappy. So I quietly and sadly accepted her passing. She was so cute, big brown eyes like nuggets of volcanic glass, soft fur, cute and tame, I loved my bunny. My second bunny was a rex and she had beautiful metallic fur, she died when I was in rehab because the staff refused to loan me the money for a vet!!!! I miss all 3 of them, but I don't feel depressed! I just rejoice in the fun memories of those little cuties, that's what they would want!

I am so sorry for you loss ❤ I had a little bun and she unfortunately passed away about a month into getting her. She wasn't growing and she wasn't eating a lot. On the day that she passed she wanted attention and she was happy. I saw her have a seizure and just make the most horrifying sound that I don't wish on any pet owner. I held her as she had the spasm. She passed away in my arms and I was a mess. I felt traumatized to the point where I didn't want another rabbit. I was very depressed, I would go to work and cry in the break room, and I would cry during my lunch. I would go home and just cry and remember how she ran around the room. My mother gave me another bun as a gift, she saw how I was. One bunny cannot replace another but they can help with the healing process. I always think that I have a little guardian angel in our room that watches over my little Snowball and I.

One of the greatest things you can do as an animal lover, bunny mama/cat/dog mama is to nurse and take care of your older or sick animal, to go the distance with them and ensure they are given the best treatment possible and end of life care possible. It's incredibly hard but I wouldn't have had it any other way with my own, for example. He passed this year at 12 years old, which was utterly devastating for me and the whole family, but it was a privilege to nurse him. I am so so sorry about what you and Mocha went through but so glad you were there for him. Compassionate people like you are so needed.

Hey! Have you had x-rays and/or CT scans done yet? Teeth trimming unfortunately is just treating the symptoms and not the cause, which explains why your buns symptoms appear again shortly after trimming again. The P2 (first molar in the upper jaw) roots are really close to the tear-nose canal and retrograde growing and/or an infection of these roots often cause teary eyes in rabbits. Without extruding them the issue will never be solved unfortunately. Also what worries me is the over salivate, which usually appears when there's an infection/abscess going on. That's why it's so important to do extensive diagnostic via x-rays from different angels or high quality CT scans. Otherwise all these hidden issues that can't be seen just by looking into the mouth will stay hidden and slowly (depends on the bun, sometimes it also worsens really fast) but surely destroy more and more teeth. My bunny unfortunately is the best example for 'only doing dental cosmetics'. The old vet only trimmed his spurs whenever he showed symptoms (he went into gi stasis every 6 months). This was going on for about 3 years without ever doing x-rays. One day while trimming they found pus so I did my research and took him to a vet specialized in dentistry as well as bunnies and then through CT scans we found out about the big chaos that was going on inside his jaw for years. It was already at a point where heeling him was impossible unfortunately and palliative care the only option. The infection that started on one tooth root by now has spread to all other teeth except his upper front teeth. This was caused by not treating the infection in time by extruding the tooth when it was still possible and not yet spreading to his healthy teeth. Sadly many vets don't take this issue serious enough and think trimming will be the solution :/ My bunny isn't a lop, but is a little dwarf with brachycephaly. Both breeds being breed to look cute but the serious health issues most of them suffer throughout their lives are ignored by human breeding them :(

Honestly it's so sad, lops are so adorable and have the loveliest personalities but I don't think I could adopt one again either. We lost beloved Layla last week after a prolonged struggle with re-occuring ear infections. She has such an amazingly strong personality, always up to mischief, she really did just love to make people laugh and to be the centre of attention at all times. But in the end she suffered so much, all cramped up in that sad hunched position rabbits do when they're in pain. I'm so angry with breeders and how shallow aesthetic choices made my poor baby suffer so much. Rest in peace sweet girl, you were so loved by every single person that ever met you. I heard your story and could imagine what suffering you had to went through and i must say you were extremely brave to endure such a dramatic bunny life story. I lost my lovely lionhead a month ago and i am having a hard time dealing with his absense . He was 7 and a half years and i lost him to gi stasis because i was convinced that after so many gi episodes i had already mastered the disease ( it was the arrogance of thinking that i could save him once more that made me be less attentive i guess ) and he ended up dying in my harms. Your story and the suffering of your bunny made me think of buldoggs and the genetic transformations we, as humans, put animals through in order to make money, it is always money. I imagine that Mocha lived such a long time because he had a loving , dedicate soul around making every suffering worth while. Also, as a anxiety older woman i understand that your body had its own limitations, and it had to come out in any other form, as you had no time to think of yourself during those years. Congratulations for your channel and the service you make to so many animals, and us.

So grateful you made this video. So much to say. First of all you love your animals in a fashion that I do. Second you brought up how much vet services are. I know first hand. I had a mini rex and a blue Dutch. In April of 2020 she passed. One month from being 10. She was diagnosed with a lump on her lung in July of 2019 and the vet didn't know without surgery what it would be. But notified me because of her age that she might not survive a surgery. So sh lived with it for almost a year. My other died because of fly strike because of her age and she was diagnosed with arthritis 9 months prior. I had to give her baths every other day the last 6 months of her life and still ended up with fly strike sadly. And she had just had her 10th birthday the month before. I now have 2 rescue bunnies that I love. But will always remember my first pair since I got them as babies at 8 weeks old one year apart. They were so special. I love my current ones but in a different special way.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I’ve been through similar things with my bunny and guinea pigs. It’s so hard. I really feel for you. Thanks for sharing. If you haven’t already, look into EMDR therapy. It’s especially good for PTSD. EMDR helps “reprogram” the body so you won’t have such strong physical reactions to triggers. Hopefully then you could see a lop who looks like him without having that extreme anxiety anymore. It’ll still hurt emotionally, but you’ll be able to stay in control.

Yes! My favorite ever pet was my rat Maddog, but he was so frail the last six months of his life...and I don't want to go through all that worry again.

I lost my nethie two years ago and have been considering getting a mini lop now that I feel ready for another bun. They are the most commonly available bunny breed in my area. I had heard about their ear issues though and that made me wary. They're already an expensive pet without buying a breed with known health issues. Thank you for making this video. Also, I rarely wear make-up as it makes my skin and eyes itch and burn. It's nice to see someone just normal on YT 😊

I have only just been diagnosed as autistic so have spent my life masking. For these past few years my mental health has declined, earlier this year my parents got me a mini lop rabbit ( I have always been OBSESSED with rabbits) to hopefully help encourage me to recover. I am still severely struggling and I’m meant to be hospitalised but because I’m autistic we have basically made a hospital at home. This touched me so much. I can’t imagine what it would be like to go through this with my rabbit. I’m now sat with my rabbit just watching him sleep, so grateful he’s happy and healthy. Thank you for sharing. I’m so sorry for your loss 🤍

I'm so sorry for your loss. I always thought lops were cute, but now I'm gonna think twice before I get one (maybe get a nethie instead). You are very brave and I'm sure Mocha would be proud of you

Wow. All I can say is wow. My minilop died two days ago. He was only 5.5 years old. He also had the weepy eyes and we could never figure it out. He became super sleepy over the weekend, by the time we got to the emergency his heart slowed down and he passed away. He was sooo loving, he loved cuddles and he was so close to our family. I’m completely heartbroken. But looks like he had exactly the same issues as Mocha. We also suspected that he was deaf because he would get startled if he didn’t see us coming. I loved him and i hope he didn’t die and live in pain.

This video scared me so much because I have a mini lop and I thought they were illness prone by the title or something. I completely relate to everything you said I could never a rabbit that looks like mine if one of them were to pass I’m so sorry for your loss…

They are illness prone indeed, like other overbreed rabbits. The farther they are from wild rabbit looks, they more illnesses prone. I was recommended by rescues to getting lops to the vet twice a year to check on their ears and teeth. Best way is acting when problems start to appear and not when they already feel poorly.

The way humans breed animals knowing it'll cause them pain just for the appearance is so nuts. Cats, dogs, horses... they start to look grotesque to me because you know they're silently suffering. Thank you for spreading awareness

Now that you talked about your rabbit being deaf it makes me wonder if my lop is partly deaf. Whenever I try to call her or wake her up with my voice it seems as though she doesn’t hear me very well.
