You could have just transferred to the transfer agent then asked them for physical copies. The transfer agent wouldn't have given you a problem. We learned this because of GameStop.

There’s actually a lot of drawbacks to owning physical certificates. Companies go bankrupt, get purchased or go through splits all the time. Name changes through marriage, death, divorce are all cumbersome. Many certificates get lost or forgotten about over generations.

You didn’t sell the stock, you just took delivery. They transferred your shares to the transfer agent who keeps record of all shareholders and is the only party that can issue physical shares. Each company has a transfer agent and while uncommon now, has been the same process for a long time.

Mike. Good morning! I have a stock certificate from Scwab from the mid 90's. I was young and had little, but remember sending in certificates when selling and receiving them when purchasing. I asked them the same question last year and was discouraged from pursuing. Thank you for that information.

It’s far easier to own the certificate then people think. If you purchase your shares directly via share owner online or computer share you can request your certificates for big name companies like Coke Ford ect. Very easy and very worth while!

I used to invest in Gold, Silver, and crypto (BTC, ETH, LINK) but as bad as it’s getting- I’m just buying “Alpha Strategy” (from the book) consumables. Food, consumables (dry goods, shoes, car expendables), things I will need and consume, and land out the urban areas.

I think it's a good idea, but I would not discount the usefulness of real money in the future, to purchase things that can't be stored up.

How do people know that there are not multiple iou's for every share the brokerage house owns?

Please make a detailed video about the process! I may want to do this with some of my long term positions!

Question: I understand the value of holding a certificate over the beneficiary ownership of holding digitally through a broker, but if this all plays out and the fiat currencies collapse, and all the stocks held through an exchange are taken as collateral, would that not cause a crash of the whole system, including the stock market and in that case, wouldn't your physical stock certificates also lose most of their value as well? Or would ownership of the digital stocks just transfer to the creditors and the stocks would maintain their value somehow? Any insight would be great- thanks so much!

supposing an event occcurs where stocks are taken as collateral by a trading house.. even if you are protected in your ownership.. the trading house will be liquidating massive ammounts of stocks that it has siezed from other holders and the value of your shares will be destroyed in GFC magnitude... would it therefore not be better to be out of stocks altogether as the only real way to avoid that type of scenario?

Could you make a detailed video on how to take delivery of your shares. I feel like if I know the whole process and fees and what the forms are needed to be filled out I can decide if I should do the same. If you already made a video about it could you send me the link. Your mom would be proud of you and what you are doing you really woke me up about hidden secrets of money when i watched that 2 year ago. It is really about preserving your wealth than rather trying to get rich quick.

I read the book and have the following questions. I would like to listen to other people's views. 1. Can transferring financial assets to DRS prevent the taking? Is DRS as good as holding stock certificates in your hands? 2. Even though I could prevent the banksters from taking away my stocks, would it be possible to prevent them from taking away the assets of the companies I "owned"? If not, should I own stocks at all? 3. The banksters can legally take away everything when the whole system implodes. In a fiat money system, the Fed can print anytime they like. Under such an extreme circumstance, I cannot think of any excuses the Fed can come up and do not print. In theory, it should not be too difficult to plug any holes on financial institutions' account books. If there is a great taking, I believe it is more likely to be in the form of hyperinflation. 4. Now that the banksters' plan has been exposed, is it still possible for them to go on? More and more people know who they are. If everything in people's accounts were taken away, I suspect we might see guillotines, not pitchforks.

Is the Great Taking an American thing or is it worldwide and all stocks in the world? I am from Australia, can I take physical delivery of my stock holdings here?

Is there a way to avoid the hassle and take delivery of share certificates at the point of purchase?

I know why he's doing this but I've listened to some podcasts that imply that even this won't save you from the great taking

Most interesting. However, if fiat currency is doomed, but one can get someone to sell the stock in the future then in what is one paid?

As someone who does short-term trading, owning physical certificates doesn't really work... but the point is well taken.

I don't remember reading in the book, "The Great Taking", that taking stock ownership by certificate would protect an investor. I have most of my stocks in certificated form, or with the transfer agent if not available, and hope, like Mike, that will protect me but not sure? Does anyone know for sure?

Ok to clarify, the "stock certificate" that Mike got, doesn't have a number on it, so it doesn't mean anything. It's just the same representation of "stock ownership" that a person who holds it electronically in an online account? And all the shares are pooled still.

100% correct Mile. The online brokerage companies are gambling websites just like those that gamble on racehorses. Who wins? Well, I never seen a Bookmaker gambling on horses lose in the long term.

PMs are good but yield nothing. I believe in PMs but know that my actual retirement will need stocks or another yield producing asset. Problem with stocks is the fact that if you don’t or can’t demand delivery of your stock certificates they can lend them out from under you by using short selling and would cause problems in the event that the brokerage went under for whatever reason. After PMs I’ll be demanding stocks delivered wherever possible. If you don’t hold it, you don’t own it!

When my elderly parents cashed in their stocks in retirement, they had to jump through some extra hoops because they had the actual certificates instead of a pretend ownership. So it used to be common practice to own your own stocks
