Why I Stopped Watching YouTube (and why you should too)
👋🏻 Hey guys! Welcome to the first episode of turning my KZread channel into a therapy session. In this video I outline some thoughts I've been having about my life and talk about what changes I'm making to hopefully become a happier and more reflective person. I'm quitting KZread, let's talk about it.

I recently graduated and I feel like there are various new, uncomfortable challenges and feelings I need to face. Memes and social media are serving as a distraction from my internal work. I don’t know if I’m the only person here that thinks like this but I’ve noticed that I’m subscribed to WAY too many channels that I don’t even watch. People nowadays subscribe, or follow something just because of one thing, which causes people to procrastinate on KZread and mindlessly scroll due and because of that, the algorithm over saturates yourself into watching channels you really don’t truly desire to consume by. And that’s the cool thing about KZread. Everything 90% is content based. All the other social media apps is 90% of “hey look at me, look how better my life is than yours.” Idk if this is just me, does anyone else feel this way?

@@metalrockstarizer89 I just stopped subscriptions that send new vids too often, and even unrelated video-makers who post a vid with 1 bit from someone's real video. I ma sorry, because i really would like to support them. If it was not so imposing. We'd watch less if we had to search for what we wanted ourselves. That was good at the beginning, before YT had got me and I never got interesting recs. "Outwiting the Devil" they really don't much seem to want us to watch though, becayúse they stopped recommending oit, although I watched it 15 times. Whereas they keep recommending sth I watched once 10 years ago, haha.
I also went to this conclusion about KZread consumption two or three month ago. If I want to watch my favourite video makers, I sit down on a couch and watch it like a movie. If I need to do something, I do it in silence and without any distraction. This strategy saves so much energy! This is my first comment in English! :3

As someone who has studied and learnt a foreign language, I always welcome corrections and I hope you don’t take offence. In your first sentence, I would change ‘went’ to the verb ‘came’. To me it’s the opposite. I’m already a really reflective person. Every second where I don’t watch anything and being alone I’m constantly reflecting my actions, what I said etc. KZread is a great way to get different views on the same topic or just have fun watching something. But in one point Im totally with you and that’s the constant stimulation. Watching KZread is fine, but every free second is too much.

I agree. I love both sides, being online and watching videos/listening to music, and also the relaxing side. But honestly, I'm a person who's into their thoughts or "own world" when I take my time off my phone/laptop. If I'm not listening or watching to anything, I get into my own narrative of what I'm doing, what I need to do, my future and my past. Sometimes I think too much and then I start to talk to myself just to let a few words out, which a lot of people do. Though I get it. Every second of YT or being online is way too much and sometimes we need to live in the moment and enjoy the weather or outside, even inside with other people as well.
There’s a very thin line between being introspective and overthinking and I crossed that line ages ago lol

I once quite KZread for a month, whenever I was bored I used to read those newsletters waiting in my email or read something from the Medium or Harvard Business Review and that was a great decision, I became more focused on my work and completing tasks at a great pace. Unfortunately here I am back to the old days 😭
i would reccommend 'the happiness planner' where they give you questions like 'what are you most grateful for' & 'name 3 things youre excited about today'. It helps you be reflective in bitesize amounts without it becoming a big essay!
Love this! It's important to realise that time off, rest, relaxing and just being with one's thoughts is also productive. Can't wait to hear your lessons after 30 days.
This sounds really useful. I can relate to avoiding that silent alone time. It sounds connected to you saying you're struggling to relax, especially since you're so driven to be productive 24/7. Hope you can become more grounded and in-tune with yourself, and comfortable just being ♥

1:26 this is really what I feel is "toxic productivity" and honestly I experienced this awhile ago as well. You keep chasing that dopamine rush of finishing off your tasks, doing more, creating things and consequently never really taking time to reflect, chill out and have some fun in alternative ways than finishing tasks. I feel more "productivity" KZreadrs have fallen in this trap and it's a guarantee for a burn-out in the long term. Treasure your free time folks, and no, it's not bad to just sit and watch Netflix for two hours just to chill out.

Yep, we suck at enjoying the high of being bored, always chasing the distractions. Sometimes all one have to do is just breathe for 10 minutes and stare into a wall.
Going through the same process, as I am reading “Digital minimalism” by Cal Newport. I have realized that all my “silent” moment are filled with a podcast, a video, or something, to the point that I allow myself no time to reflect or just even get bored. I am doing the same as you for a month, scared but excited!
I just love honest KZreadrs. And I don’t know why but as soon as one of his KZread video comes out, I just HAVE to click it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! The current world needs more content creators who allow themselves to be vulnerable and honest about mindfulness and mental health to inspire their audience and create a safe space✨ Kudos Naser🙌

I've noticed this with myself hence why I'm watching this video. I have been in this routine of constantly watching youtube videos everyday throughout the day and I intend on changing this and being more productive.
Hey Kharma! I’m a Spanish suscriptor and I’m finishing my degree in Medicine the next year. I’m glad that I’m not the only person who sometimes feels overwhelmed due to our brain constantly working with no stop, trying to do many things at the same time. I think we weren’t biologically designed for this multitasking way of life, and in my opinion in the end this stress can lead to different psychological illnesses (anxiety, depression, unhappiness…). As a suggestion, you could talk about “dopamine fasting” in another video. Thanks for the content and greetings from Murcia!
Currently trying this as well. Thank you for posting. It's nice to know there are others striving to make better choices.
It's like we have telepathic connection! Five days ago I started reading a book before bed (some easy reading like Dan Brown etc) and for the first time in the last 5 years I was able to fall asleep without headphones and asmr videos. And that made me think about how much time I'm spending on KZread, not doing anything. So I stopped opening the app even if I felt the urge to do it. I can honestly say that I'm now experiencing life in the way I haven't experienced it in years. This is first time since then I opened yt and after this video I'm closing it again. It's honestly amazing feeling.
I’m doing the same thing with instagram and it’s been a month already and I’m actually finding more time for things that matter in my life , i started doing more and thinking less it was really addicting .
I don’t bring my phone with me when I’m going downstairs to cook or make coffee, sometimes when I’m walking or on transport I don’t listen to music or watch anything… it gives me time to think and process and reflect instead of constantly being bombarded with noise and information. It’s kind of like another form of meditation for me. Would definitely recommend ☺️
This was a great video with some great reflection! I find that journaling is also a great way to work through what's stirring in my mind to help combat overthinking. Thanks for being real and vulnerable with us!!
I had the same conversation with my friend about something very similar. I’m a studying mother of 2 and I have so many things lined up on my to-do list after I finish this semester; Places to go, books to read, fitness goals etc. She reminded me it would also be useful that before diving into those things straight away, I should also include time to rest and just be mindful to avoid burn-out (which I am quite prone to). Not exactly what you’ve described in your situation but it’s also the same concept of resting to achieve further productivity in the long-term and just to be more connected with ourselves. I feel you!
This is the exact same thought i had a few days back, and its a really good thing. In my experience u will be able to conciously feed ur subconscious mind

Love this perspective. Often times I have looked at relaxing/downtime as a rare luxury, but I try to remind myself that it is actually a necessity! My mental health definitely starts to dwindle if I don’t leave time to myself
Off topic question but do you have pr( green card) of uk if not is it easy to get it ?
I'm proud of you that you've come to this realisation! :) I have to say, when I heard in one of your videos that sleeping is not anything you're looking forward to, is not anything relaxing for you like for most people then - honestly - I thought that it's creepy and you sound like a robot, not a human! I've always admired your productivity and efficiency but you're missing out a lot on that introspective side and reflecting upon how are you feeling in a certain moment - this is extremely important for one's wellbeing, that ability to always be in contact with your emotions! Every psychotherapist will tell you that. Many people are taught to suppress their emotions since their childhood, it's so detrimental. I've developed the ability to read and feel every emotion that appears inside myself and it helps me tremendously in everyday life. I wish you the same :)

I love Nasir and take a lot of inspiration from him in being disciplined but I also thought about how something just felt emotionally empty in the whole routine. Best content on youtube existed on KZread..
After a very long time I finally came to realize that I actually enjoyed neither of the things that I was doing at the same time. For example, watching videos while eating, listening to music while walking... These distractions actually made me lose energy and harmed my inner peace, and I am now seeking to become a person focusing more on my inner self and the nature around me rather than electronic devices. Thank you for mentioning that. I am feeling more confident in practicing this while most people around me tend to stick their eyes on the phones every minute they are free and that used to make me kind of awkward.
I relate to this sooo much! I have found it hard to be consistent on KZread because I can’t *not* be productive with school things. I am so selective of the content I consume because it has to be worth my time - if that makes sense 😂 good for you friendo. Hope you learn more about yourself through this journey
Im going stop watching this video, I have things to do. Thank you for suggesting to stop watching youtube even though your still making videos for others to watch.
This is a good idea, think I’ll join you on this challenge!
I did experience this as well. I was so addicted to listening all day, so I felt weird after I did sth in quiet. it was a sign for me to change. Being a silent when it is needed is the best way to pondor upon what is happening in out life. It is more relaxing than listening to music. Just throw away the lyrics, and think of sth bigger and better. only watch youtube when it is needed. Because I truly believe in the words of Rumi who said "Silence isn't empty, it has so much to say"
Thank you so much Naser to guide the people in such a way; how to become more productive than yesterday. I love to watch your videos and preparing for a productive university life as well as in regular life.😇❤ appreciate sharing your true experiences with us again and again. Good luck brother!
Love from India ❤️ Keep growing 🤗
The dude said I'm quitting youtube 1 year ago but he still publushed so many videos after that. You see youtubers do not post videos for education, they post videos for your attention. Your attention is the most valuable thing to anyone including you. These guys make thousands of $ because of us, but think about this, when was the last time you saw the content on youtube and then applied it to your life and made changes to it? You hit the proverbial "nail on the head" so to speak. It's all about producing content in order to keep your attention. . . . to keep the money rolling in. It's a job. Weather the content is honest or not is another question, I believe that some channels have built their content on a concept that the producer doesn't even really believe is legit, but the cash flow drives him/her to continue. Though in all honesty, most are probably legit and the chance to be heard is what YT provides to many of us.

@nikachkhobadze7710 Very true. I personally think that YT and other Scoial Media platforms like this now have a greater audience than the local NEWS channels just because of what you said. . . . People in general are now questioning the Big TV station's honesty. The problem with YT is that the content provider is not under the same controls and restrictions as those large NEWS media stations, so it's so much easier for KZreadrs to produce false narratives too. Such a great video! It is so comforting to see that I am not alone in this. I never heard anyone I know or even on youtube talking about this. At times I felt ashamed that I consume so much youtube and talking to a friend who could not relate, made me feel like I am a failure with using my time. It put such a strain on my mental and I feel it is such a stupid reason. This is why it makes me feel ashamed. I am currently going through this struggle of quitting, falling and raising again 🥲 I also have a short attention span, so getting bored easily makes this really hard for me, very frustrating 🙈. But initiative is the first step. Great road to begin going on, no matter how difficult 💪🏻
I got a mini heart attack when u said u quit yt... Thx god!!! Btw yeah yt in other times can kill u... like after learning all this, i found the best way to spend all the time... for me the school (high school) is at 12 to 6:30, so I built my schedule to be 4hrs study at the morning (i wake up at 6:30-7) and i start studying at 7:30-11 (i know its not 4 hrs but 3.5 hrs but just nvm), then i chill during that time (i go school at 12) so yeah, and i return home at 7 (it takes 30 mins to come home and get all my uniform out and etc... and then i aim for 4 hrs but ofc i can't, so i end up doing like 5 or 6 hrs, sometimes i feel motivated to go direct 10 hrs in my weekends. So if i get time in between i just think about my todo list and what to add to my ticktick app or i think about my future.. When I go to medschool, I would follow ur schedule cuz i guess it would be fine cuz u too wake up at 7 and study at 4hr block so yeah maybe!! btw thanks!!! NEW video idea: how to organize your life. Thx have a nice day!!!
i started going out on runs after seeing you do them but i never carried my earphones , initially i didn't carry them coz i thought it was too much trouble but then after a few weeks of running i realized that running was my introspective time , after i'd had a run everything in my life suddenly became clear and i was very motivated , though my life is not perfect and i have sluggish days , running just clears my mind , no music no podcast just me,myself and i and i've also observed that it helps me enjoy the serotonin, dopamine and endorphins a lot more after a workout , so i really liked this idea of you doing it.
The honesty is unreal and refreshing on youtube! By the way, going for a run alone WITHOUT music is amazing especially for being in touch with your thoughts because you literally only have two options while running: chill out and clear your mind completely, or to think about all sorts of things :)

@@KharmaMedic Yeah it's very good for thinking all the way from trivial things to deeper reflection and thinking about the future!
I do a social media fast a couple times throughout the year and also at the beginning of the year. Even though all the social media posts and videos are informative and it’s easy to just scroll , I think being in the driver’s seat of your life, you have to give some time to reflect and also give some time to apply what we’re learning from all the content to see what works for us individually. Feeling like I need to do one now because even the study with me videos on youtube aren’t helping, lol
so get off youtube but keep watching your content. got it

KZread is waaaaaaay better than TV. If anything, stop watching the boob tube. Now that's a real life waster.

Hi. Is there a way to disable the youtube website? I think I have an addiction and I get it but I need help. Thank you
I'm so happy for you, Nasir! Spending time on your own thoughts is a perfectly wonderful way of using God's time and will hopefully help you become a better person, professional and future family man. More power! Looking forward to watch more contents like this from you.
KZread Explained : 1. The best place for circlejerk people after Reddit 2. The best place for people who like to spread propaganda because people can't block any channel 3. The best place for toxic people who like to talking crap about other people without getting banned 4. 80% video is just filled with negative contents 5. 90% contents is clickbait 6. 100% bot in every video 7. Report button is the most useless button ever made 8. Dislike button on comments didn't do anything but it just exists 9. Dislike count is hidden to fit Google narrative because they want to defend themself from any critics 10. The worst website ever because KZread never improve but only getting worse every year
KZread is escapism.

watching youtube about not to watch youtube😁😅
I'm so glad you addressed this... it hit me like a train too when I realized I am incapable of being alone with my thoughts
I actually loveee that way of thinking, sometimes things that happen that are good and then it’s good and if it’s bad then it’s bad. I really wish I could have that kind of mind! I am SO overly reflective that I waste time thinking everything through and making myself upset over the bad things, and just thinking in general. It must feel so good to be able to just let things go
When the Facebook + WhatsApp + Instagram Outage happened, I did feel a bit more relaxed and I slept well. Maybe it’s a sign from the universe.
I think the problem is there is too much garbage on KZread.
I love your content sooo muchh, you changed my life I used to be a very busy and distorted student, watching your videos, I realised that if I balanced my life like you, I could do so much more in a better way, absolutely love your content 🇵🇰
I have come to the realization on 1st March 2022 at 23:15hrs that this my only monitized KZread channel (being a entertainment niche channel) that im completely KZread burnt out earlier on this morning I published a short, just as I was getting back home I had what probably would have been a trending topic (hardly much views) and 3 hours ago another video premiere with just myself in their, I have been called controversial but now I know that im a rank amateur youtuber, I don't know whether to give up KZread all together or just have a very long break

All the videos doesn’t has it’s own serial numbers, so with multi language inputs, some tower PC couldn’t find the same video that’s on the tablets or smartphones, I knows the search on the serial numbers could comes up with 10 to 20 search results due to millions of videos , talk about refreshing the serial numbers that has been used, but it’s better than not able to find the video at all. But on different platforms of iOS and Android, the same video channel may has limited numbers of video present comparing to each others. So after all those years, yes it’s pathetic to see humankind are this useless that KZread has no serial numbers for each videos so they can be searched on English only Sony TV and tower PC, while the same video can be found on tablets with Chinese language input , etc … …
But u are on KZread making videos 🤣🤣

I'm so happy that u r being so vunerable cause that's how u get stronger and I also wanted to do social media detox but I was afraid cause I wasn't having a reason that could back me up on my decision but the reason of urs gave that motivation
