Why I Stopped Making Videos: My Experience Being Groomed & The Harassment That Followed

My video upload schedule has rapidly burnt out and I’ve wanted to release an explanation before I continue uploading. I'm not a fan of "personal" videos and still have odd feelings toward making them but as someone whos against that very thing I thought it was important, I explain my mindsets toward this platform and the nature of having an audience. Scripting was minimal so please keep that in mind if my wording seems weak compared to usual, I just sort of spoke.
Also, keep in mind this doesn't mean I'm gonna have a crazy upload schedule, I just want to refocus on capturing why I liked doing this again.

Even if the world turns against me I will still tweet about lolis like I always have - _Shadow The hedgehog_ If this video seems repetitive it's because I didn't read directly from a script as so much as I kept bullet points on hand so sorry about that but I thought it was best. As I said can't say I'm a fan of doing this sort of thing, I still think there were ways I could have worded my feelings better or even took a different tone but this was from the heart to anybody curious why I stopped uploading for a bit as well as how I got to my current stance.

I can honestly say that I didn't engage in hateful harassment myself, yet was put off by Dimitri's sharp criticism about the trans community, labeling his criticism as destructive inside my head. Possibly the most maddening thing about being autistic, is that in addition to not being able to "get" other people you can barely "get" yourself. And it makes it all the more difficult to convey your own thoughts and feelings when we feel like we have to. It makes those rare times when you do "get" someone, feel damn near euphoric.

I discovered your channel back with the "When did Pokémon stop being good" video and the "problem with the LGBT community" and really like your analysis type videos overall and became a fan. Being a Bisexual man I've encountered both positive and negative responses in the LGBT community with some completely understanding my situation without questioning it and just treating me like a regular guy who just happens to be Bi. Other times however there is a sort of elitism where I am told who I am according to a stranger who doesn't know me. Saying Bisexuality is not real or your sexuality depends on who you are dating. It isn't like when I am single I suddenly become asexual or if I date someone with dark hair it means I suddenly stop beong attracted to anyone with hair that isn't dark. That isn't how it works and it bothered me people tried to tell me who I am better than I know myself. Or people expect me to act a certain way because I am Bi, like I may be untrustworthy as a partner who will cheat on someone or some will think I am naturally effeminite while others think I "don't seem Bi" because I don't act that way to their personal bias. You talking about people blatantly trying to tell you who you are or they try to gaslight you for not fitting their idea of identity really resonates with me. I woulf love to see you make more content but mental health is important and if people are still giving you shit for no justifiable reason and it takes the fun out of video making then it's understandable if you want to stop or take a break. Whatever is best for you, take care of yourself man and if you ever do plan to continue new projects or videos you'll have fans who will be there for you.

I heard about you via an anon on Tumblr mentioning one of your videos and I looked you up, only for accusations to show up first in the search bar. I've been around long enough to know not to take them at face value so I ended up watching this video. I won't get into details about anything, but I have been dealing with a similar situation as yours, albeit on a much smaller scale. I've also had lots of negative encounters, including harassment and suicide-bait, from the online trans community...despite the fact that I'm trans myself. On top of that, I have the same problem with having a hyper-fixation on being understood and understanding others which I've unfortunately not beaten yet as months after I still have panic attacks over what happened to me. But I just wanted to say that it's comforting to see that someone who's gone through something similar and who has that specific trait come out on top of all the bullshit. It gives me hope that maybe one day I'll be able to get there too, that I'll maybe be okay in future, so thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I'm just one person, but if it means anything at all, I'm definitely sticking around as a fan. ^^

Yeah, opening the Pandora’s box that is transgenderism is a dangerous effort. I liked your video about the word “trap”, and I really enjoy your content as a whole. Really insightful, nuanced videos. Having friends that have different opinions isn’t a bad thing at all. But I guess the “tolerant” people that totally won’t skin you alive if you don’t fall in line with their opinion don’t like that. I agree about not talking with people online to a significant degree. I don’t think I can ever fully trust people I’ve never met (I struggle to trust even the ones I’ve met!) Just take care of your health.

I've been watching you for a few years now. I'll be honest and say your cuteness is what pulled me in first since I thought you were attractive, but what made me stay is how un-wavering and consistent you were with your content in spite of the backlash you got. It's sad that you are facing so much stress as a content creator as our job is mostly to just entertain people and provide them an outlet or escape. However, with the current landscape of things, there are a lot of people more invested in being toxic, having some crusade, and trying to be morally right than trying to get the facts right. With that said, as someone who supports you, I do thank you for your sacrifices as it is nice to hear a creator be real, honest, and open with their struggles as it provides insight and even relief for myself as I've dealt with similar paranoia/stress to a lesser degree even though I make mostly in-offensive content. Hopefully, this video will inspire others not to be so quick to condemn others, be more respectful, stop putting pressure on content creators and allow people to make mistakes and recover/learn from them. It's so annoying how the landscape of the internet has changed these past 5-10 years. Best of luck man.

I mean I wouldn't approve of that kind of behavior going on in my house, but not approving of it is a pretty big gap from basically disowning them.

As somebody who saw a couple of videos of yours a while ago and subscribed, I just wanna apologize and share my condolences for how you've been treated all this time. People often wield their religion or minority status or anything that makes them stand out like a hammer, and smack anyone that slights them, no matter how lightly, down with it without remorse or mercy. It's not exactly biblical to do in the case of Christianity, and it's certainly not a nice thing to do, but people let their emotions override their judgement and don't think about the damage their words or actions will cause. I hope you're feeling better now and eventually these guys leave you alone, but you might have to make separate social media accounts just so the stalkers on Reddit don't keep you from interacting with folks online completely.

Refocusing on what you enjoy is definitely the right way to move forward. Haters aren't worth anyone's time. Hatred is a means of self-validation that thrives on others' suffering; so if you disengage (or at least don't respond), there's a good chance they'll move on.

This is so, so cathartic to hear right now. I can't relate to all this, but while I'm trying to figure out how to navigate the Online World and share my work as I try to juggle maintaining my IRL situation on top of that; a lot of this constantly runs through my head. Thanks for this, and your other vids

I don’t know if an comment this late on a year old video is gonna be seen, and I’ll probably bungle the wording of what I mean, but I regret not being here to comment when this was posted. Your reduced posting coincided with my senior year of college, and I dropped off. Checked back in and started binging again. I love you and your videos, and identify with a lot. I’m so happy you’re back, and that you’re enjoying it again, no matter how long it took.

Honestly I can relate to a lot of points, I've honestly changed a lot the past year or so after kind of realizing I wasn't liking the people I thought I was friends with online anymore, it took me forever to realize as I always convinced it was something wrong with me and honestly it could've ended horribly if I didn't realize it wasn't me but man it's been difficult to move on due to all I did back there but hopefully maybe I can start doing something new and meet better people, just wanna say hope you're doing well.

This why I always view communities in a realistic manner. Sure, you can meet a lot of wonderful people and even make lifelong friends, but you also be subject to those who operate as a hivemind and will do everything in their power to tear you done if you don’t align with their beliefs.

I really feel for you man. Your not alone in this. At Least I hope not. Ive been following along this "subject" for a very long time. Not studying and tracking things necessarily like some kind of wannabe cyber sleuth, but being one of those antisocial, sheltered kids growing up I learned early on to keep to my self, and to watch out for peoples actions and beliefs around me. All i'll say is that compassion is not always as easy and simple as poets or speakers can make it out to be. Neither is patience. But no matter what, you've still got to do what you have to for your own sanity and health. I hope to one day try and put my own voice out on the subject once I have better control of my nerves. Every little bit of compassion and patience counts. But at the very least I hope we're all able to come together someday in understanding rather than judgement. It's really great hearing from you again to. Even though I had forgotten a lot about youtube and the internet these last dozen months. :P

So I've been lurking on your channel for a long time now, lured by your old Dark Souls 2 video (which is still a good game don't @ me) and you know what kept me around? You. You and your -good looks- personality and how you seem to be so well grounded in who you are. I've been through a hell of a lot in the past few years, going on my own personal journey in LGBTQ+ land and coming to terms with things. Your LGBT video about 2? years back now dropped at the perfect time and really helped me gather my thoughts. No matter how bad you feel or how alone these people _make_ you feel, and if this video and these comments are any indication, you'll always have support. Keep doing you dude.

You are a great guy Dimitri. In an online enviroment that is increasingly dominated by tribalism, name-calling and outrage, you've always presented well-formulated arguments and views that have been interesting to hear, even of I disagreed, and I think that is very important. So many people on all sides bear grudges and feel like they have to destroy those they disagree with, and often I've seen people I would agree with start down the same dark path as the people they criticized, making the same mistakes. So many people excuse shitty behaviour if it harms people they dislike, and it makes me so sad, because it shows a genuine lack of empathy, or people being unwilling to see others as people. You seem to understand this, and that's why I appriciate your videoes so much. You should do what makes you happy, but know that I will always be happy when a new video from you drops, and I know I'm not alone. :)

Dimitri, you just earn even more respect points from my book to the point of being title as madlad for how much steel you have in your spine that I just have to root for you for that. I love your problem with LGBT and trap video mainly because of how DIFFERENT your opinion is compared to the communities which are just a bunch of collective hivemind. I thought I lose hope on them until you convince me that there ARE people like YOU. Don't you ever give in to the mob because you have more balls in that feminine feature you present than those coward psychos that hypocritical themselves complaining about gender is a social construct while at the same time conform the stereotypes they themselves argue about; "you like cute and girly things? Trans!" Be your own person, be kind to everyone, that should be the most basic rule for humans to live by. These people that I notice do not help anyone but themselves so I don't bother to interact with them and you shouldn't either. Keep up the good work my dude!

That can certainly explain why I can enjoy your videos even when I disagree, it's cause I can relate much more to how to get your viewpoint and we see differing opinions as a chance to communicate rather than start an argument or harassment campaign.
