Why I sold my 2021 Tiger 900 GT Pro.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I’m saying goodbye to the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. It’s been a great adventure bike but it doesn’t do it for me anymore. When I first bought the bike I expected to spend most of my time on the road. That’s no longer true so it’s time for an upgrade.

Great video. I'm new to the adventure market and will be test riding some different models soon. I'm interested in the Triumph 900 and 1200 models and also BMW 900, 1300 or 1250 GS. Most of my riding will be on pavement but I will go on some double track and some easy single track also. Being 68 years old I'm not going to push it. I do have dirt experience in off road as I used to do motocross and enduro riding when I was younger. Thanks again for your video.

24 GT Pro for me just for the new TFT Info screen but not worth it so I will see how the GS1300 fits me.

You can get an aftermarket rear shock for $1.4K or so. Not including labor for install.

If I planned on keeping the bike that’s the route I would’ve gone and would’ve replaced it with something better myself.

Not just the GT pro. My 900 GT rear shock just blew oil when I dropped it off the center stand. I believe Triumph put on some inferior parts on those earlier motorcycles. The rear shock was always soft on mine. I will more than likely part with mine as well. Only 8.5k miles. I feel your pain

Thanks for sharing. I thought that maybe my issue was an anomaly with such low mileage on it. I didn’t sell the GT Pro just for that reason, I wanted more off road capabilities. You can probably fix that GT much cheaper than what I was quoted.

@@timetomoto I understood your reasoning for wanting to go a different direction. But I would encourage you to file a complaint with the NHTSA. I will be doing the same on my end.

Why would it be 3000 to repair a shock seal. I'm just curious coming from dirt bikes. It's a lot less like 2800 less. Love the bike though.

The dealership would’ve just replaced the entire assembly rather than replacing a seal. It’s a fairly expensive part because it’s an electronic suspension. But that number they gave me was ridiculous and I don’t fully trust them anyway.

I guess but it’s also a quote from a dealership I’ve never fully trusted.

Who knows what they are quoting for labor / shop time for the job. Here in Seattle the Triumph dealer is $180hr. Starts to add up quickly

Won't a shorter rake hurt you in sand and rocks?

  • @timetomoto

Yes. You can adjust the Rally Pro to extend the rake a little when off road but I’m not sure how much. I need to do a little more research.

@@timetomotorecently traded my ‘21 GTP for a ‘23 Rally Pro. I’ve played with the suspension a bit; my understanding is you can extend the rake to 26 degrees and change (from the 24.4 deg). But if you’re carrying weight (i.e., luggage) you’ll need some preload in the back which tightens up your rake a bit. Still, a great feature having the ability to turn the RP from a tight handling road bike into a more stabled off-road bike. Good luck on your new Moto hunt. 👍🏻

@@timetomoto I'd be more worried about getting blown all over the road on the 460lb Transalp. A little extra weight can make a big difference in on-road comfort.

@@timetomoto The Transalp, T7, and Vstrom 800 de and all very nice bikes, but the area where Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha have really dropped the ball is the wheels. All bikes in this category should have tubeless wheels. I own both the Yamaha T7 and the Triumph Rally Pro and love both of the bikes. Triumph has included the 2 things that I wish Yamaha would have included on the T7...tubeless wheels and a bolt on subframe

Not to be rude, but if you are off-roading hard enough to break your shock, I think you need to go dirt-bike, or possibly a tough dual-sport, not an adventure bike (which are all generally road/tour biased). Just my 2 cents as I have been a dual sport/dirt bike rider for a long time (50 years), and a road bike rider only the last few years. Unless you really need to do long rides on highways to get to where you hit the dirt, stick with dirt bikes or dual sports.
