Why I Reuse Feed Bags For My Coop - And You Should, Too!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

RSM is here to finally answer the burning question: Why are there feed bags around the walls of her chicken coop? There are a few reasons you might want to do this, and hint - the reason we use the feed bags is because, well, they're free! And we're all about that here on Jurasschic Park.

Since we moved to an old farm, we're finding trash in the woods. We use the bags to hold the trash while we find it in the woods and put it in the garbage. You have no idea about cold air!!! Come to Minnesota and you'll understand cold air!! Cheers RSM!!

We actually used old feed bags as lining behind our walls when we built our pallet coop to help block any drafts or water. Works like a charm!

I'm always a bit worried about the girls eating a staple that might work it's way loose and fall on the ground but the feed bags are useful in so many ways. =)

I bought a kit coop and I reinforced outside with extra hardware cloth. 1x12 to keep feed dry.. now I have a run in progress… I will add hardware cloth and wire lathe to keep critters away..brilliant idea with fed bags! My GF lined her she shed to keep wind at bay

@@realsimplemama those kits need to be redesigned!! So much rain… my girls were sopping wet… better now, leaving enough for ventilation, it’ll cut down the crazy cold wind in the mountains.. I layer up with pine mulch.., actually built a 10x12 run around coop, so they’ll be safe when not around to supervise.

I reuse feed bags also. You can turn them inside out so that they're all white.

atm im using my feed bags or empty sand bags to put the poop in until we get a composter. This is a good idea, but hope ours are sheltered enough, and chuck daddy has been making a net covered area for them (we have red kites in the area) so new adventure for them tomorrow, being out on their own, and i can get on with my chores lol

Hi Sarah. :-). I wanted to ask you were you purchased that multi-coloured step thingee in your yard for your chickens. I have searched forever for something like that to put up for my girls and can't find anything.

Hi! The little playhouse with the steps? It was made by my sister and her boyfriend out of upcycled palettes! The weather is beating it up pretty hard and I want to make the steps horizontal (flat on their feet) so we will probably build a new one this winter/spring.

Just make sure you smooth the wood with a sander or coarse sandpaper, and seal it so it’s weatherproof. That’s where we went wrong. And like I said, make the rungs flat so it’s easier on their feet! We want to make one that’s more of an A shape (like a ladder) but with a wide flat spot at the top for them to hang out.

Hi! The tarp is from Amazon. Make sure you get one that still allows a little air/water/sunlight to get through.
