"Why do I need this?" Well, you don't. You've been conditioned to think that you need to spend a thousand dollars every year on a new phone when the one you bought last year still works just fine. People are brainwashed to believe that they need this in their life as if they will be missing out on something. The same way people buy the new COD or Madden games EVERY YEAR. even though the games change very little if at all. You dont need a new phone every year. You're being conditioned to think that you do. I had an iphone SE for years without issue. The only reason I upgraded my phone and ipod was because they made it so neither of them would work properly anymore. They became obsolete. The phone wasn't working properly. the ipod wouldn't connect to itunes anymore. I was forced to upgrade. It's all a scam.

  • @haaxxx9

I used some Motorola phones for the past years like the G5 and the G7! The only reason that I upgraded my G5 is that it's had a crack on the screen and was bleeding out color real bad so I got rid of it and got myself a G7. Both of them cost about $250ish bucks since I got them with being 3 years apart from buying them. And yes, they are my most expensive phone that I paid for and honestly it's not worth it... The G7 is my last Smartphone that I would buy before strictly buying these "Dumb phones" for cheap. I just want to use a phone AS a phone, Headphone jack to listen to music that I have it installed on the phone and calling personal people. I despise social media and thank god I don't have a Twitter or a Facebook! Too much fucked up shit on there to see that is filled with Assholes or morons. I'll gladly keep my sanity thank you.

I agree my friend. It's not the phone it's the user. I can watch soaps on the TV and other silly pointless nonsense but none of it influences me at all. It's a bit of fun or relaxation it's not real for god sake. We usually fast forward through all TV adds but if we do watch theme we know they're just saying "give us your money fool". There was a scheme a few years ago where the government were going to make sure that every person in the UK had access to a PC. Of course they don't need that scheme now as everyone has a smart or iPhone and that's what the powers that be want. If everyone is staring into that screen then they're being brainwashed and controlled and that's great for this current agenda that's disguising itself as "the virus".

@@SgtNicholasAngle I think the reason is that many people struggle to not use their phone for social media etc. even if they intend to quit is that it has become a habit. So using a device (for some time at least) that simply can't open these apps makes it easier to break the habits. I completely quit using reddit (only social media I ever used) but it wasn't as easy as just deciding on it, I still have a page blocker for it in my browser, because even after months the habit is strong, sometimes you need a bit of an extra tool to change your ways, and I guess the same goes for using a flip phone for some time.

I made a video about using a flip phone for 30 days about a year ago! It had its challenges. No GPS and not being able to Google things was hard. I used an old iPod to listen to music (which forced me to listen to old songs from the 2000s). I found myself calling people a lot more because texting was painfully slow. And not being in group chats meant I was somewhat out of the loop. But it was very refreshing getting off of social media and disconnecting. I began checking my phone every couple of hours instead of every 10 minutes. Can't wait to see what you take away from the experience Matt!

As if any Apple product would work after a decade, much less 30 years. Planned obsolecence is too polite a term. Got an ipod touch (a few actually) I can't use because its "too old for updates" but older apps don't work either even if you find them for most services. The hardware is still fine, Apple just wants to sell more and more e-waste, so they slowly bricked it, as they do all their older devices. Good riddance.

I miss physical maps! IMHO, they are more comprehensive than apps doling out one line of direction at a time! When i used a real map, i saw the comprehensive area and route at once, and got a better idea of my trek. I used to travel all over chicago area with a map and some written bullets on an index card. It was actually quite relaxing! It allowed me to use my eyes to search for major roads, and not have to make abrupt highway exits because of not knowing what was next until too late!

The feel good wealth of a community, nation, continent needs to be given value! Because after all, our economy pushes the 4 or 5 releases of Apple, Samsung and others every year, as we need to consume and buy buy buy! :( This kills our planet. Very fast!

My mother will be more than happy to to upgrade from her phone to my iPhone 7. I personally (! (don't want to accuse anybody here)) see the problem in the Zara shopping cycle community, where every 2 weeks new products are being displayed and people really get those new products every time! Also Zara is just an example, which describes it pretty well tho! It is time to take out the speed a bit, let the nature re-grow, maybe learn to fix something instead of just ordering a new one and so on! Happy to discuss! :)

I have that exact phone. Biggest challenge: people text me, I call them right back and they don't answer, and they don't even check their voicemail if I leave a message. Even my closest friends can't seem to remember that talking on the phone feels better than texting - tone of voice, and real-time back and forth of an actual conversation are an antidote to the loneliness everyone complains about, but they "don't want to bother anyone" by calling. You're not bothering someone who likes you by wanting connection with them! And to schedule anything, it takes less than 60 seconds while talking on the phone, but trading texts can go on for literally *days* and in that timespan, my availability changes. It's so much simpler just to have things scheduled than to try to keep juggling a bunch of maybe's. I have an old GPS in my car, and a chromebook for internet. Some things are actually more expensive with a flip phone because places like gas stations offer a discount if you use an app to pay, and you can't do anything that requires you to scan the data matrix.

The old sliding phones were pretty much the same as flip phones, but they had a slide out keyboard that made it easier to type, and were specifically designed for 2 things, calling and texting. Old school blackberrys had a built in keyboard too. Since so many people hate phone calls nowadays and prefer typing out their conversations, I would have to have a keyboard on my phone to keep up with text messages from my friends and family. But otherwise I would love to have no social media on my phone, drowning me in notifications. @@red_dll I believe just a little over 3 years. It could be from an app I'm using. I need to go through apps and delete some including things I don't need, or from dropping it. My husbands works fine and his phone is the same one. Electronic companies can make electronics expire. I had a DVD player that just stopped working this year and I read on a news report that the certificate expired for all those DVD players like mine.

Deleting the overwhelming majority of social media I had and downgrading to an old phone is the best thing I ever did. Considering I have a Mac, I can still FaceTime, and I have a phone (literally running iOS 6 with no apps on it) that juuussst has the bare minimum. Texting and calling. Everything improved when I did that. My screen time cut down to about 2 hours a day (on my laptop/texting), I became more productive, less insecure, more eager to go do outdoor activities, etc. All while I still get the full experience on a computer, the primary difference being that it's not portable, I also get the full ACTUAL life experience. Would highly recommend. Social media is the devil.

I use my iPad to read, to keep notes, but mostly to write a book. I also watch movies and listen to music. When you use it for specific purposes it really is productive. Otherwise it jusrpt wastes time. Never had a smart phone, never will. Like up you I use a flip phone! Thanks for this wonderful video!

Yep - I've had a flip phone since I can remember. To me "It's just a phone" That's what I use it for. I don't text - I actually talk to people. I store phone numbers in it so I can "Talk" to people. I don't need to be connected to the internet everywhere I go. I can actually see where I'm walking because my face isn't focused on my phone. If someone calls I choose to talk or not. I can actually hang up on content I don't want. I have a PC lap top I use if I want to connect to the internet. I don't have a need to take pictures of everything around me. That's what God gave me a memory for. Get off you're "Smart Phone" and start talking to people again. Soak in the beauty of what's around you. You don't need to be in constant contact with everyone on social media. It's all fake anyway. Get real and start talking to everyone again.

I do all of the above and I still like having my smart phone. it depends on what you decide to do with this tool. Your livestyle may not require that you pick up email or texts while out of the house. My business does. I love tracking my workouts, having digital images that I take with my phone, taking notes, organizing my day, being able to transfer that data between my phone, Ipad, laptop. I dont do much social media, but my phone is the most useful tool. I dont have to find that grocery list that I put down somewhere in my house, or that important note or notes that somehow got misplaced. I listen to the news on my phone, have all my contacts in one place, deposit checks into my bank account (only at home) scan documents that I need, track where my car is when I park it in an unfamiliar parking lot, use it as a magnifier in a restaurant when I forget my glasses. The flashlight comes in handy too. So many things! But I walk by the beach with the phone in my pocket, and I listen to the ocean, watch the clouds float by and feel totally alive!

Definitely good to push back against big tech desire to get us all addicted to their devices as possible, but smart phones have so many more practical uses if you can control your screen time. Music, podcasts, navigation, messaging, good camera, workout tracking, notes, etc. I've found it useful to use apps like Opal, offscreen and One Sec to control screen time and access to distracting unproductive apps, also adding a B&W filter to make scrolling less addictive. I've seen my screen time go from 4.5 hours a day to 2.5 in the past year
