Why I'm cancelling my Adobe account, and what I'm using instead

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I've been threatening for a long time that I would love to kill off using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, but I didn't do it because there just wasn't any good enough programs available to replace them... until now.
This video is all about why I'm leaving Adobe Creative Cloud behind and what I'm replacing it with. Is it a perfect solution? Only time will tell, but until then, I'm saving myself a LOT of money in the process.

More than 3 years using Adobe and never understood how their programs are "industry standard" so many bugs, so many crashes. And now somehow AfterEffects can't even make a decent chroma and tracking while DaVinci did it with no effort. And I have a Photoshop project that eats somehow 30 fucking gb of temporal storage everytime I open it it's insane.

I think it really came down to them having the core 3 apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and the. Buying I’m up anyone along the way that challenged them. Not until Affinity has any one company been able to compete with the big three.

@Jeanette Darley, really great respect for people who give open source apps a chance. Right now the web is powered by the free Apache web server, or nginx server running on the free linux operating system (which Adobe is likely using), with other free applications. Davinci resolve was given a chance and it's better than premier today, if people support Gimp and Inkscape and can be patient, they will be FREE from the risk of the current Adobe contenders (AF) selling out.

I'm thinking of doing the same, I'm allready doing most of my online post production on Davinci Resolve Studio, and Affinity Photo seems like a no brainer especially since it supports .psd But, what about motion graphics? I need to be able to make motion graphics aswell, is fusion in Davinci good enough for motion graphics? I mean it's great for vfx, but vfx is not the same as animating logos and creating motion graphics? What is the replacement for adobe's After Effects, I need to find a AE killer. Do you know one?

I myself just binned Adobe. Sadly I haven't fully binned InDesign because there really isn't any way to publish ebooks without it and I just happen to be trying to learn that. Why did I bin Adobe, yes cost like many people. But really, creative cloud Online only model SUCKS. I use the product all day at work, and it can take me up to an hour just to get logged in minimum between pinging and verifying my account. And then I come home and, like tonight, I just gave up straight up gave up trying to log into Adobe. It can take me up to 2 hours to try to log in without it kicking me out saying it "can't verify my account." I can log into CC, and then when I launch InDesign or Photoshop it kicks me out of those programs and out of CC all together. And by the time I've fought with CC, it's late and I have to go to bed so I can function at work the next day. So what was the point. Until they can get a better verification system, and really I switched to Affinity just last month and so far I'm not looking back at well... "much". Like I said, I just can't publish ebooks from Publisher yet, but I'm sure they'll get it figured out.

I know this isn't an option for people doing professional production (at least it's true if they still impose the same restrictions they used to with CS on educational licensing), but it's worth mentioning that Adobe has made it pretty easy to get/keep educational pricing. If you have a student ID and a .edu email address, you can get an educational price ($20/month). You don't have to be enrolled, but you're not supposed to keep it more than a year after you graduate.

I was working in a small printshop, mostly laser printing, and we got rid of adobe for 2 years. Everything was fine and even better. But now that i'm working in a much bigger one, i had to come back to Adobe. We gave Affinity a try, but we had too many issues mostly with pantone, black and color separations. Affinity gives more freedom to designers, but adobe is better for prepress and professional printshops. With Affinity You can't check the color separations to make sure everything is fine and most of the time, it's not.

I just concluded my 3 years transition from After Effects to HitFilm Pro and I'm very pleased... It was the last Adobe software I used... I've been moving from Adobe software and a few pieces of software that went subscription only to alternatives of one-time payment or open-source. I don't like it when the only option is to rent my tools. Subscription can be an option but not the only one. The same way I like the option of buying a car and there's the option to rent it if I want, I need to be able to buy my work tools outright. I'm pleased to say that since the past month I'm Adobe-free :-) After Effects was the last to be delete because I had lots of plugins and templates I needed to replace or adapt to HitFilm, DaVinci Resolve (and Fusion) and Blender but I got the job done (not all but what I actually use, I was able to do it). And way before that I said goodbye to Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator, Audition. If anyone is interested (or on the same path I was) here are the programs I use the most on a daily basis: DaVinci Resolve Studio, HitFilm Pro, ShotCut, KDEnlive, OBS, Aegisub, Synfig Studio, Papagayo, Pencil, HandBrake (video), Fairlight, Audacity, Ardour, LMM Studio (audio), GIMP, Krita, Darktable+digikam, RAW Therapee+Photivo, Affinity Photo, Luminar, (photo), Scribus, Inkscape, Affinity Designer and Publisher (graphic design), HitFilm Pro, Fusion Studio, Blender, Natron (VFX), Ashampoo Burning Pro , Img Burn, DVDStyler (media burning), GNU/Linux distros, LibreOffice, Task Coach, Tryton, Thunderbird, FileZilla, 7zip, Clonezilla, Free File Sync, GRSync, GParted, PhotoRec (other).

@@Mariojrmatos For the programs that I use, I have Filmora for video editing (one-time purchase option), GIMP and Inkscape for basic graphic design as well as Cakewalk for a DAW. I’m considering purchasing Hitfilm Pro once I get a new computer (which won’t be happening anytime soon due to the recession). I might just install Natron though since I’ve barely stepped foot into visual effects and then move onto Hitfilm after. All of that aside, it’s ridiculous to see Adobe’s subscription model and the amount of people that have fallen for it. On my main channel I’m a small content creator for a community that has adapted After Effects and Premiere as the norm for making said content, and even a few years back in High School I took a computer graphics course and all of the programs we used were from Adobe. Both sides looked down and ridiculed me when I made it clear that I’m against Adobe and their Creative Cloud B.S.

Adobe needs to change it to where you pay software 1 time use of $400, and annual maintained is a subscription of $200 and it would be worth keeping so I just pay $200 and if I cancelled the A.M. I can still use the last update ofthat software I have. I see that as fair but $600 every year indefinitely or you are cut off is stupid.

I honestly believe After Effects and Premier got WORSE from CS6 to CC. Photoshop got a little upgrade. Illustrator and Indesign I honestly see no difference. I remember the time before Adobe bought Macromedia Fireworks... it used to be my favorite program

This is just a theory... but I believe Adobe has some Major updates ready to release but as long as they are on top of the game without any serious competition, they will just milk that money cow. It is the same thing with GTA online, they pretty sure could have released GTA 6 long time ago if they wanted, but hey, people buy the old game... Or electric cars. all of the big automobile manufacturer had some kind of electric cars in their garages, and for damn sure could have developed one if there was any need to, it was just when Tesla was going big that the others were getting serious about electric cars.

Their typical solution is to add more shiny features, or build apps that most people won’t use, and then justify the price increases. I think, if Covid hasn’t happened, Adobe would have raised their price in 2021 to $55 a month or more for CC, but that may have to wait. If they do release a major update, there definitely will be a price increase. It’s how they justify it every time.

@@DaveConrey 2020 strikes again haha, looks very much like an adobe strategy, indeed. I miss the times when you buy a product, and then it is YOURS. All that subscription based BS and all the micro transactions... AIDS. So happy Affinity had the courage to go the old way! Will tell everyone to use affinity. Thanks for your videos about affinity btw, helped a lot to switch over!

Illustrator is the WORST of the Adobe Big 3. Very clunky and unintuitive. In IA you still cannot align strokes to the outside of live text! Unbelievable. Marquee selection also sucks. Everything the box touches is selected. It should only be the things completely enclosed in the marquee. Affinity Designer gets both of these right. I still use ID for layout, but use AD for all my ad design.
