Why I'm buying a Cybertruck!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The time has come for Mat to review the most unique vehicle in the world - the Tesla Cybertruck!
But is it all style over substance? Or does the Cybertruck stand up as a fully-fledged pick-up that can compete with all-electric competitors like the Rivian R1T & Ford F-150 Lightning?
Well, let’s find out by taking a closer look! When it comes to the exterior design, there’s no denying the Cybertruck is one of the most eye-catching vehicles in the world! Sure some people complain about gaps in the body panels and the straight edges, but there’s no denying it looks like it’s time-travelled back from the future. The stainless steel panels make it super tough, and the full-length light bars at the front and back only help to make it stand out further.
Step inside and the interior is classic Tesla. Bar some buttons on the steering wheel everything is controlled through the huge infotainment screen on the dash. This can be annoying at times, but there’s no denying this screen is super slick and very responsive. Otherwise, the build quality is pretty solid, with soft-touch materials throughout most of the cabin. There’s even a small infotainment screen in the back, too!
When it comes to performance, there are three editions of the Cybertruck you can buy. A single motor, dual motor, and tai-motor ‘Cyberbeast’ edition! The latter edition can produce 845hp and 930Nm of torque, and all this costs just $96,000! But of course, this edition is also super heavy, tipping the scales at 3,084kg!
So what do you think - have you learnt to love the looks? Or is it just too much? Let us know in the comments!

The old cars up to 1976 used to be made of steel (like Tesla Cybertruck) , they lasts better - but the people inside don’t. When a car takes an impact - the speed has to drop from (say) 40mph to ZERO within the distance by which it crumples. So if you have a big old chunky piece of iron - the front bumper might bend by a tenth of an inch and aside from some scuff marks on that shiney chrome - will basically be completely unscathed. A modern car will probably crush a foot or more - the engine may get pushed down under the driver’s feet into the ground. It will be a total wreck. However, if the modern car crushes 12 inches instead of a tenth of an inch…120 times more than the old car…then the deceleration rate will be 120 times less - and the force of the impact will also be 120 times less (Because ‘F=ma’ - force equals mass times acceleration). So in a steel car - you die a horrible death as your internal organs smack into your rib cage and your brain hits the front of your skull. The car is more or less OK - so the new owner wipes off the worst of the blood splatter and is impressed at how the car survived the impact. In today new car ( besides Tesla Cybertruck) - you climb out of the twisted wreck with some bruises and a sprained ankle - and spend the next month bitching about how modern cars can’t survive accidents as well. Today’s cars are engineered to absorb energy in a crash; instead of going from 40-0 in an instant, the car’s front end collapses slowing the car down a little at a time while the passenger compartment is designed to divert energy around the passengers to the rear, engines break downwards instead of into the front occupant’s lap, it’s steering column buckles instead of transferring energy into the driver’s chest. It can mean walking away from a car accident verses a long hospital stay, or a long hospital stay verses a quick trip to the morgue. Vehicles with today’s modern safety tech is designed to sacrifice itself to prevent human suffering. Todays cars even have provisions to protect pedestrians that are hit by a car, there’s a certain amount of space required between the hood and any engine parts. Europe now has a standard regarding pieces extruding past body panels because it could rip a pedestrian’s legs off.

I was very sceptic about the lack of a speedometer behind the steering wheel when I bought my Model 3 a year ago, but after a few days I was already accustomed to having the speedometer to the right of the steering wheel. Having to look to the right instead of down feels a bit odd at first, but it's just a different "muscle memory" with the exact same result when you're used to it. It's also not as if Tesla is reinventing the wheel here; there have been a bunch of cars that had their speedometer in the center of the dash like the Toyota Prius and some cars from Fiat.

Another correction: The comment you made about thinner wires for less weight applies more to the new "low-voltage" 48V system (replacing 12V system), not the 800V high-voltage system used by the drivetrain, which is 2x as much as the previous. Of course both changes help, but the low-voltage system uses literally miles of wire, so the 4x voltage increase makes a bigger difference.

The problem is that Tesla built its lineup on debt, credit and investments. As a result, they're not actually that nice to drive. They're just an ideology. I think other manufacturers build better electric trucks. But many of them also needed credit and debt. Except for Ford. I've never tried the f150 lightening, but there is something to be said for pure market success.

Just the kind of guy I would expect to be buying a Cybertruck. All car, no cattle. Big windshield and wiper. Wonder what he's compensating for. Who cares what it looks like? Can it haul round bails without them falling out of that shallow bed. This is a toy for braggarts, not a real working truck. And yep, the cups I get from the restaurant in town are always that shape. No one makes round cups anymore. Nice, super hard stainless steel! Better hope you never get in a wreck where the Jaws of Life are needed. I suppose one feature is that if you hit someone, you won't have to worry about a personal injury law suit. Instead, you'll have to worry about a wrongful death law suit. And no spare tire? Not even a doughnut? What happens when you get a flat? Personally, avoid avoid avoid, even if they pay me to take it. I own and run a working cattle ranch on the Colorado/Wyoming border. It's too expensive, and if literally anything breaks, I'm a long way from repairs. This isn't a vehicle I could work on myself, whereas anything from a Ford 150 to a 350 crew cab I can almost build from scratch. I can see no purpose for this vehicle on a real, working ranch. It might be just the thing for someone in a big city who wants a status symbol and want to put something simple like a dirt bike or a jet ski in it, but I don't have either of those, and don't have time for either of those either. You aren't helping the environment with one of these, because you still need to burn the fossil fuel to make the electricity to charge one of these things, and you have to mine the lithium out of open pit mines for the materials to make the battery. This is a fancy car for folks who never travel far into the country, not a truck for people who use it for any real work, and who need to be aware of their bottom line. It's also not for anyone who is really serious about helping the environment. It only removes the problem from your immediate consciousness, which could actually be a bad thing. Have car problems anywhere far away from a location that does work on Tesla (which is a heck of a lot of America) and you're stuck for quite a while. Further, in any situation were you need to get out of the car in a hurry and the electrical system is down or the doors are jammed, and you're done. A battery fire and you're burnt toast. A bad accident where they need to use the Jaws of Life to get you out... you'd better hope you're not injured, because if you are, you'll be suffering for a long time, or worse case scenario, you're going to bleed out before they can find a cutting torch to cut you out. Further, that cutting torch might just burn you, or light the car on fire. Death trap. Bottom line, it's a very expensive car, not a truck. Even Elon Musk calls it a car, and is very careful not to call it a truck other than when he mentions its name. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Others will have differing opinions.
