Why I live a zero waste life | Lauren Singer | TEDxTeen
Lauren is an Environmental Studies graduate from NYU and former Sustainability Manager at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and the amount of trash that she has produced over the past three years can fit inside of a 16 oz. mason jar.
Lauren Singer is author of the Zero Waste blog, Trash is for Tossers and founder of organic cleaning product company, The Simply Co.
Through her blog, she has empowered millions of readers to produce less waste by shopping package-free, making their own products and refusing plastic and single-use items.
Her work has been profiled by New York Magazine, MSNBC, NBC, AOL, CNN, Yahoo, Fox Business, BBC and NPR, among others.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I really enjoyed her speech and her dedication to better our planet. What bugs me however is some of the comments on this video. Saying things like, "well you still gave a speech in an auditorium that used up energy" or "well you probably drove there or got a ride which is contributing to air pollution" etc. etc. etc. Why? Why is it always necessary to point out the negatives and try to bring someone down when they are already trying so hard to do something good for our planet. So she may have sat in a car and maybe she didn't ride her bike today. Yes, she spoke at an auditorium so her speech could reach the masses and possibly spark a change in people to reduce some of their waste. Isn't she already doing so much? Why must we nit pick and bring people down all the time?

There's a lot of negative feedback people get for lifestyle changes like this, for instance vegans and people who live in communes without electricity. Anything that goes outside a cultural norm, even if it's more sustainable and moral, ends up being criticized without logical reason. I think it's great that people try to reduce their footprint in various ways, and the world would be a better place if more people were conscious of their impact.

I'd have to agree wholeheartedly Christine! When a guy does it and people disagree, they just simply disagree, without any comment about his character. But when a woman does it, its for attention or because she wants praise. Double standard all around.

+Challenger TV Shampoo: Baking soda. Conditioner: Apple cider vinegar. Dilute a table spoon of both in about a cup of water. I've been doing this since November last year (so a year lol) and my hair requires less frequent washing, i's shinier, feels stronger, doesn't get flaky nearly as much (my scalp is dry), and it feels lighter and bouncier. Also, since November I've only had to swap the box of Baking Soda and the bottle of Apple cider vinegar once with a new replacement, so it's good for my wallet eheh. I don't live zero-waste, but I'm focusing more on organic body care first. Tl;dr, it's called the "No poo" method, look it up if you want.

Why vegetarian and not vegan? The dairy and egg industries produce tons of filth and cesspools that drain into all the rivers, lakes and eventually oceans. If you care at all about the suffering of other species, these industries are the cruelest on the planet. So easy to find, drink or make your own plant-milks, yogurts, ice creams and vegan cheese. The hypocritical liberal elite ala Al Gore, wan you to reduce your carbon footprint. He's an elite so he does not have to reduce his larger than the average American carbon footprint. You know do as I say not as I do, they wan you plebs to make the sacrifices, so they won't have to.

She’s glowing like morning sunshine. Honest and pure. ☺️
A shining example how we all should be
she's just amazing
I love how the speaker fought against being at the mercy of manufacturers. In ancient times people got to make whatever they wanted, whether it be a house or a means of transport. Today we are so dependent on shops that we have stopped trying to create anything for ourselves. We have been crippled by the system. It's time to break free!
I thought she was going to talk about how not to waste your life but...

Lauren , Mother Earth prouds on you...
Amen to everything she said. Even if it is less than ideal for many (the way she does things), everyone should start somewhere and do what they can do leave less trash before they leave this earth. Thanks for the video. I am inspired.
Qué lindo mensaje. Yo empecé ya hace un tiempo a reducir mi desperdicio, hago muchos de mis productos pero aún me falta mucho por reducir. Es increíble este estilo de vida, admirables los que lo implementan.
Wonderful Lauren you are amazing and inspirational.Thank you for changing my perception
I've read Parts of mari kondo's books and this video reminded me of it. The girl isn't saying we have to reduce trash by a hundred percent , but we shouldn't be wasting so much trash in general. I have become very minimalistic after reading kondo's book and being simplistic like the girl said can really change your life. I don't buy a lot of stuff anymore and I save tons of money. I also see the important things instead of the unimportant things. Changing your life for the better does NOT mean getting rid of a lot, it just means changing some things so things are easier to do and life doesn't get so hectic.
I really want to become an environmental scientist ahh this video is so inspiring
this is so nice. Thank you so much Lauren
So meaningful! Sincerely to say that it is really really meaningful and i hope everyone accept this information by do the positive everythings about “ENVIRONMENT” . Sincerely thank you❤️

she looks so good... She's such a natural beaty. I can see her wearing minimal makeup. And she really cool. I guess it's not an easy way to live but it's really environmently friendly.
I would listen to this girl for hours...

As a minimalist I discovered that less is more. Instead of organizing stuff I'm actually free to really live. Best thing I ever did.
