Why I like the Honda Accord (2003-2008)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Is the Mk7 Honda Accord an underrated car? Here are my thoughts on it!
Also known as the Honda Accord Euro in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and the Acura TSX in the United States. The 7th generation (Mk7) was introduced in the UK in 2003 and ran through to 2008. This is a 2007 2.0i petrol VTEC facelift Executive (EX) model with a high specification.
This review covers performance, economy, build quality, comfort, ride quality and equipment specification.
Covers Accords sold in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Also know as the CL7 or CL9 Accord.

    My Dad bought one of these new in 2003 and had it for seventeen years. It was bullet proof mechanically, only needing a handful of consumables. They were built properly too. No sqeaks, rattles or bits coming adrift. A true quality car as those that have experienced this car will testify. Still looks sharp too in my opinion.

    Bought one of these for my daughter a few years ago with only 57,000km in the ODO. Apart from changing the wheels like your car to the Accord Euro sport 17" that I think look better the car has been bulletproof in its reliability. The car drives better than a lot of newer but inferior cars. It's a quality product. The car is now appreciating in value which is a bonus for my daughter!

    I've had my 2008 model for over a year now. Like you say, well put together and very reliable. One issue I haven't seen any review mention is rear visibility when reversing. I find not being able to see the boot through the rear window tricky, and because the sides are bowed, the back end doesn't show in the mirrors. I fitted a Bluetooth reversing camera quite easily, and that's sorted that out.

    I always kept an eye on these. One of the best "affordable" sedan designs of all time in my opinion. About to get one with the same engine -and colour- but in auto. Mechanical issues of my own keep me away from manuals so the auto will do. Wanted a 2.4, but none in my budget now. 2nd hand market has gone bad and no sign of getting better with the way our part of the world is headed politically. Seems people are now aware of just how good these are and not parting with them. The 2.0 still has enough pep to enjoy some spirited driving and it's buttery smooth throughout the rev range. Also, these are really quite light for the size and era, spacious and have great suspension design (double wishbone front and multilink rear). Not perfect but one of the best for sure, all aspects considered. Well-rounded piece of machinery.

    I have a 2007 EX and it is brilliant, just so nice to drive. It is getting old now in 2024 and bought a Mazda 6 which has over 5 rubber hoses in the engine bay for no reason whatsoever a metal pipe at both ends and a rubber hose crimped in the middle so that the rubber rots away and you need a new car. Honda Accord 2007 amazing beast but the idiots buy German and BRAG about the repair costs.

    I think the Mk7 estate (tourer) was one of the best estate cars Honda have ever made. The Mk8 tourer that followed had a pitifully small boot size by comparison and I also had ongoing DPF problems that drove me to despair on a 2009 Mk8 DTEC. So I've just recently gone back to a well looked-after, low mileage one-owner Mk7 estate with a gorgeously smooth 2.0 V-Tec petrol, and I'm chuffed to bits with it. And we've got the big boot back!

    @@Teddymac86 Only valve clearance every 20.000km , this is mandatory and oil on MAX. LPG from 2007 till today maybe serviced three times. Car is now at 300.000km. Today my friend and I replaced: LPG MAP sensor (located on injectors, old one broke after 15years, and LPG was just going out with a lot of smell in cabin and car can catch fire in engine, so I pull out LPG fuse same minute , until new sensor arrive), price was 40Eur (42,59USD) for new one. Only one screw 10mm, 5minute job and I have a "new" car. LPG works like a charm, revs up to limiter in every gear on LPG (2.gear 110km/h (68miles) at 7000rpm and so on ). System is LANDIRENZO OMEGAS from 2007 . Second we replaced cruise and audio control on steering wheel, came new from ALIEXPRESS with all new cables. Now works everything : Cruise control + accel/deacel + volume UP/DOWN on my 10.1" android radio, don't know namer of android, pure china, but it's working for 5 years now. I have front and rear HD CAM, and everything works, no problems so far. Dual limate works, everything works and the car is just good. Never replaced SHOCKS or similar car parts, only some minor "cosmetics" like this steering wheel commands, but the car is 19 years old, it's OK after 19 years to replace some items like steering wheel commands :-). Rotors and pads before 5 years, still good today, Everything else is 100% stock. Hope that your ACCORD will service you just mine serviced me. Best regards.

I suppose most people will think they look dated but I think they look better on today's roads than they did when they were new. Among all the Tonka toy shapes and bulbous 'look at me' designs, the Accord looks rather rakish and dignified. It isn't tarnished with the image that BMWs and Audis suffer from either. Despite the poor mpg it's on my shopping list but should I wait until car prices fall? The car market is insane at the moment.

    It’s an excellent car for the budget and overall a good car, but tbh it doesn’t reach to the level of the bimmer 3 series from the same era (except perhaps the reliability, on average). I’ve owned 2 Accords over 2009 - 2014, both excellent cars, EX version, auto, all bells and whistles (03 and 07 regs), sold the first at 114K miles and the second at 87K miles. Then I bought a 2006 BMW 325ix auto with 105K miles and after driving it I thought “god, I wish I could afford this car earlier”.

It would be 'enough'. If you can find a nice 2.4 in budget then of course I'd say go for it, but the most important thing in my opinion is finding a car in good condition with service history etc. So if a perfect 2.0 comes up, then I'd snap it up!

    Thanks for the quick reply mate..was thinking for one of these to be able to drive to London because of Ulez. So that means at least 150 Miles a day mostly motorway. I know a 2.0 litre petrol 5 speed it's not quite the best motorway cruiser especially after 3 problem free years of 3.2 L6 diesel E class with 500 Nm of torque. Might aswell look for a 2.4i Accord or 2.5 Mazda 6.

    @@Marius0189 Oh man, that's a shame about the E-Class. You'll miss that as a motorway cruiser. ULEZ sucks. Could get quite costly in petrol with these older Mazda/Honda saloons as they're not the most economical. If anything, it's one of the weak points of this Accord, but that's just due to the era it was built really. You can only expect up to 40mpg on a run from it in my experience. Suppose it depends what you were getting from that E-Class though (and how much of that 500nm you were using 😄)

  • @Marius0189

    @Marius0189

    2 жыл бұрын

    I was thinking that if I get 40 mpg from one of these 2.0i would be great :)) The E class being an L6 engine, it is not that bad on mpg. I mean,I drove it across Europe few times. Normal motorway speed 120 130 I could get easy 45 mpg (or 6.2 6.3 l/100) and I was usually driving it fully loaded..Here in the UK at 70 mph it's even better. Can't say the same thing as soon as you hit the German autobahn for example,and the 500 Nm are just too tempting. (Can go down to 35 mpg if constantly drive above 180 km/h). As a motorway cruiser,on air suspension..perfect.

But it's still comfortable on long journeys. The VTEC engine is more fun than the Kompressor though. High revs and actually feels like a slightly faster car (at least vs the pre-2006 Kompressor) Fuel economy is about the same.

    The monetary difference in buying a Honda Accord 2006 manual diesel vs gasoline over a year of ownership Petrol Version: Initial price: $6,581 Fuel cost: (5000 km / 100) * 7.8 l/100 km * $1.41/l = $549.90 Maintenance cost: $262.50 The total cost of ownership for one year (Petrol Version): $6,581 + $549.90 + $262.50 = $7,393.40 Diesel Version: Initial price: $3,839 Fuel cost: (5000 km / 100) * 5.4 l/100 km * $1.37/l = $369.45 Maintenance cost: $282.50 The total cost of ownership for one year (Diesel Version): $3,839 + $369.45 + $282.50 = $4,491.95 Difference in price for one year: $7,393.40 - $4,491.95 = $2,901.45 (Petrol Version is more expensive) As: both spend more fuel than in this math (the price should be higher for both) At the initial price, the difference may be smaller And maintenance, might be higher on both cars, and I'm not sure if their maintenance difference wouldn't be bigger But as imprecise as the math is, it's worth the diesel version more from a monetary point of view (especially if you drive more km) It won't have v-tec and this k24 engine, but you save at least а thousands But maybe I should wait for a better deal for a petrol engine, what do you think?

  • @JJonCars

    @JJonCars

    Жыл бұрын

    That surprises me, as in the UK, the prices of petrol and diesel models are not all that different - certainly not thousands of £/$ different! So here it's usually a case of - how many miles do you drive? If it's a lot then get diesel, otherwise go for petrol. And usually diesel costs a little bit more to maintain as you get issues with turbos, EGR valves, DPFs etc (though this Accord won't have that) If you're really keen on having the smoother, quieter and better sounding petrol then the K24 would be maybe worth it, but for such a saving I think I'll have to suggest diesel! I am curious - what country are you in?
