I agree with you. If we are true fans, we should want what is best for Michelle. She gave us all so much. I want her to find happiness and peace; I know she wouldn't find it here in the toxic, nasty, hateful beauty community that we currently have. It's not her job to save people or to fix something she never broke.

The solution lies in our hands. If we stop supporting all these toxic people then they will either change either they will go away. But the problem is that most of us love toxic people and we make them to climb up the social and economical scale. They might be talented but most of them are empty or i can even say petty and cruel sometimes. Idk what else to say. All i know is that I'm sick and tired of the beauty community as it is now.

@@kurlykayla9013 There's a blog named MichellePhail on Tumblr and it highlighted the drama that Michelle was involved in. She was angry at a 16 year old girl saying the word retarded. Promise also vented about her in a tweet (I can't remember) but never mentioned Michelle's name. She has been called out by others before but it's been a long time already. She hasn't been in the spotlight lately.

Especially with her past. The Internet is brutal nowadays. She has $50 million dollars anyways. She doesn't have to ever work super hard if she doesn't want to. I know she has her makeup line now that seems to be going well. I saw some of the comments here criticizing some past behavior but she admits in the video money and success brought out the worst in her so it's not like she lied about that. She admits she got too ambitious. So what is the issue here? Social media is so toxic now why would anyone wish that hell on her?

Literally rewatched this video after Tati's video and the collapse of the beauty community making me appreciating that back in the day we had Michelle who REALLY uploaded makeup videos without any drama,scandals or TEA whatsoever... These beauty gurus nowadays should really learn from Michelle and take a break from the internet to really figure out their miserable lives and solve all their problems privately like an ADULT !! It's so ridiculous that Michelle was the only person who did the right thing leaving the community and grew from within mentally and came back stronger and more mature.

Seeing you go through all this right before my eyes, I can tell you you've definitely blossomed in a beautiful Butterfly like the one we saw on our hike. Let see where life takes you .. Hopefully to a land with lot of yummy Pork buns and Bunnies !!!!

SO TRUE. Money CAN'T buy your way out of depression and success DOESN'T heal depression. Depression doesn't care how rich, popular, beautiful or successful you are..... Those that don't endure depression will never fully understand. Sure, they may post a blurb acknowledging it on their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram accounts..... but they wont understand that it can take you to the lowest of lows and make you feel completely alone even in a room full of people. That you can't just 'think happy thoughts' or have a girls day and shop until you drop and *poof* it's gone. It doesn't go away and it doesn't care who you are.

I don't care what anyone says. Michelle Phan is iconic, will always be a legend, and is an OG KZread Beauty Guru. She basically invented or predicted the mainstream success of things like Clarisonic: "Hey guys buy a sonic oscillating toothbrush and use it on your face to exfoliate." She also used to pull from her art background and give awesome DIY cheap hacks and tips like using Dawn antibacterial dish soap to clean makeup brushes and beauty blenders - instead of buying expensive cleansers - something that my female relatives still do, up to this very day.

Why is everyone being so salty that she has all this money. She grew up being poor and she earned this herself. She worked really hard for all of this, and y'all acting mad because she hasn't posted in ages or this video isn't a good enough reason on why she left. Michelle chased for her dream to have enough money to support her family and she has, why can't anyone just support that. I can't even watch them! why watch a video who's purpose is to try and make you feel more beautiful (teach you a new make trick, tutorial etc...) when they make you feel so ugly watching it with so much negativity!

She was the first “beauty gurus” I watched. My bf actually lives in her hometown when she was first getting big. He said everyone would go to the boiling crab because she was a waitress there! Small world!!

When she says "money can't buy happiness" she's not saying it from the perspective of a rich kid. She's saying it from the perspective of someone who grew up poor, soneone who has been a broke college student with bills to pay and a family to support. She's one of the first big KZreadrs. An Asian-american child, she was the daughter of two immigrants. Her family was very poor, so she worked extremely hard in school in order to get into a good college and support her family by making a lot of money. But in the end she realized med school was not for her and she applied to art school instead. I believe due to her grades, she even managed to secure a scholarship for art school as well. Her mother was devastated that Michelle would not go to med school but in the end accepted it. The students in Michelle's art school were all presented with laptops, which also had access to internet. She used the webcam to film a beauty tutorial and flash forward to the present: through consistent hard work Michelle has made enough money to support her family. Anyone who says she has no idea what she's saying, that she couldn't possibly know the true value of money is, I hope after reading this you've gained a new perspective.

You cannot compare Michelle's experience to everyone else's. I definitely can't fly away to another country but I'M NOT MAD AT HER just because she can. I mean, seriously. Everyone complains that she's gone for so long. They leave comments, questioning her and asking where she is. And when she finally posts a video explaining they attack her because they don't like her answer. This video isn't about other people and how hard it is for them. It's a response and an EXPLANATION, about HER life and HER decisions. Not about OTHER people struggling. Everyone's life is difficult, but not in the same ways. Grow up. And she can very well promote her makeup brand. Hell, IT'S HER CHANNEL.

Kristen Embry I totally get what you're saying. Beautiful comment worth thinking over actually. It's not that having a career out of KZread is bad, but everything comes with a price and one slightly influential person's actions /lifestyle or a trend these days influences many others. It isn't just KZread, society increasingly has been lacking soul. On the one hand you can say we have people who are very aware and open minded and accepting (compared to previous generations) , but there's also a lot of emphasis on glamour and marketability. Competition, the survival of the most aggressive and active lot, brings a strange obsession for perfection. A world where everything is for sale, is ultimately stifling as a whole, whether it brings profit for individuals or not is a different question altogether.

I cried...this was such a beautiful simple meaningful video and it makes me miss the days when KZread was drama free and simple. I'm so glad you're back! ❤️❤️

I have never watched a Michelle video as far as I remember. But I found her radio maybe a week ago, and then KZread now suggested this video. I would like to take the time to acknowledge and thank you Michelle for her message. I’ve been wanting to build my brand in the direction of making videos, but being a clairsentient I could feel the pull of wanting to conform to the energy of the platform(s) itself and all the competitiveness. In the past, My guides have guided me from taking consistent full force action towards this desire of mine, but I am getting the signs and energy it will be time to soon. I feel I was guided to this video to be reminded that this journey can be a fun, authentic and uplifting one- but I must stay true and strong above influential energies and even my own ego. I remember when this video first came out and I watched it while i was hanging out with my friends, I just couldn't hold the tears in at the end of the video. The words she says at the end of the video are not what I remember, but man do they still make my heart tingle. RIght now I'm at a point in my life where I'll probably want to wear make-up soon, so I told myself it was time to go find the OG that i watched when I was a preeteen/teenager when i didnt really like makeup, but man did I love Michelle!

this isn’t just a video about beauty and youtube and money. it’s a video for all of the people who are going through something tough. whether it’s depression, anxiety, stress, etc. everyone needs their own time to grow and learn. learning to love yourself isn’t taking a bath or having a “me day”. it’s a slow change. growth comes slowly. give yourself the time to slowly grow.

Honestly, looking at some of the comments that have already popped up, I can see part of the reason why she left. Whether you are rich or poor, anyone can be affected by depression. It's almost as if because she is Michelle Phan she's not allowed to feel isolated or lost- money or not, she is still human. People don't wake up one day and decide they want to have depression, or feel lonely or lost and the fact that society still thinks this way about mental health shows how backward our thinking really is. Michelle, thank you for the beautiful message and animation in this video, please never stop learning! x

To be honest, I really miss the old beauty community. No shade, no drama. It's all about beauty arts behind the makeup with makeup tutorial. No doubt that Michelle Phan is the real mvp of beauty gurus. We all were still young, living with big hopes and big dreams back then, sit in front of pc watching her Barbie Makeup Tutorial Video, which inspired us to do makeup as a kid. And I swear I miss all of that. Incredibly nostalgic. It's like the world knew that the community is about to be a huge mess and save Michelle from it, and im glad that she left youtube. You can tell how much she enjoy her peaceful life right now, living as a normal human without chasing the fame. And i'm happy for that. I'm happy that the world could save Michelle from toxic drama. That Barbie tutorial was one of my favorite videos growing. That and the Parisian makeup video were standout videos I rewatched growing up. I miss all of that so much, but I'm glad we can still watch the videos and appreciate Michelle's years of hard work. I'm glad she left too, it would be sad to see the toxicity of this platform ruin someone who is truly a beautiful soul.
