Why I left China for Good!

Only now am I able to truly talk about all the things I saw, filmed and experienced in China. Having moved out of the country I now have the freedom to speak unreservedly and I would like to first let you all know why it is that I left China, a country that I loved in the first place.

Can’t imagine the fear, after watching his friends story or china seeking him out and Winston being jailed since 2018, I really hope he and their families got out if they wanted to. Seen so many videos of the one guy. The titles were like Wife love America dated six years ago, I’m moving back to China wife divorcing me, a few other things like dating foreign girls, five things I hate about my Chinese wife.:: I didn’t click any of these yet but I’m curious how it turned out for these two families for the kids. I’m not aware of any child agreement with kids who were born with a foreign parent.

@@serenityyang750 No he doesn't have all videos targeting China. I didn't watched this channel for a long time (few years), and from watching his videos, I really was curious and wanted to visit it. And since I'm socialist I wanted to see, something more about country that call itself communist. Winston seems to keep it real. As any intelligent person could describe good and bad in any country. I'm not fan of US driven, and visible propaganda against China, in the last few years. China is threat to capitalist dominance of US, that's reality. US like they like to do, they attacks in a way of labelling that China bad because it's communist. China is a fascist state. Communism means freedom. The end goal of communist society is borderless state, with decentralised power, means of production controlled by workers not some fucking party elites. Nationalism, any hate against any group (maybe except the rich) is forbidden (nationality/race/gender/orientation/religion). And by the way fuck the US too. China and US are both bad with their ideology of supremacy. Some strategics of control and influence on the global scale, sometimes are very different and sometimes nearly the same. If you want present better your regime, do better job, because this comment was so weak is just sad.

@@serenityyang750 I know China isn't communist/socialist. Again is more of a fascist state. Most people don't understand that word, and many in the West keep saying it's overused. That's because most people when they hear fascist have image of Hitler, and death camps, and holocaust. But that's just extreme example. Modern day Republicans in US are fascists, and I would argue those before too. Any government that's allows or praise nationalism, discriminate against foreigners, have or aim to have total control of it's citizens, deny any wrongdoing is fascistic. I don't know much about Winston travelling to HK, but him living for over a decade in China, having wife and family, should give him absolute right to going back mainland China. Same with being able to work. So those are not even any reasonable arguments for me. And yeah he can even collaborate with US intelligence currently, seeing all tittles lately. But he doesn't seem to make stuff up, I don't see hate from him. I can see anti China propaganda everyday, and they don't try to make any sense, since most people don't know anything about this country, just say hey they're bad because communism, and there's no freedom and the holocaust. Winston doesn't fit the profile at all. China just like US are countries with the biggest potential for being example of good progress for humanity, yet both choose to play imperial dominance game. That's sad, and everybody on the planet will pay price for this. All of this is too big and complicated topic, so I will finish here. Have a good day.

Everything you said in this video rings true with me. I lived and worked in Shanghai for 5 years during your early years in Shenzhen. I met my wife there as well (mainland Chinese, but not Shanghainese). I was moved with my job to Hong Kong 13 years ago, but regularly visit Shenzhen (day trips, so I don’t have to register with the police, which I also hate) and trips back to my wife’s family. I could never live in China again (and my wife even more so) and, with the new Security Law in Hong Kong, we are now counting down our time in Hong Kong. I love the vibrancy here too. I first came to Hong Kong in 1988 and was immediately smitten by the place, back when Shenzhen was the factory expansion outlet for Hong Kong toy companies and other low-end products. Honestly, I dread having to leave in many ways, but I value personal freedom too much to risk being here when Hong Kong becomes too much like the mainland. The gap is closing fast now.

The only crisis Hong Kong faces is the USA government and George Soros. The choked the students not to demonstrate, but to riot. People in Hong Kong just want to go to their work are suffering. People in HK not agreeing with the studens or "democray"are being bullied, molested, tortured or sometime being killed. CIA provide students from weapons, trainings of violance. Their advisers are even there to guide the violance. Also I realy don't understand UK, former opiumdealer in Hong Kong. I unknowingly worked for a business owner and Solar Manufacturer, wanted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I was on the inside of a real cloak and dagger story that was fraught with murder, missing persons and embezzlement. I was questioned by the RCMP and by the Chinese equivalent of the FBI about my boss and then approached by my boss' partner. It got to be frightening and I left China after cooperating with both Law Enforcement agencies. It was insane. within two months after I left, the Chinese government deported by boss and his family and took over the company. I saw the writing on the wall and got the hell out.

And I get more and more awake with time and life experiences here. What you said in your videos I have to come to realize myself, too. this is no place to raise children, even if they make it to adulthood safe and sound, they would turn into robots eventually, cuz there is no other way. I don't want my future children to live in a place like this . This is no place for women, either!! I don't want to say too much here in case I get myself in trouble. anyways, in recent years I have made up my mind that I will get the hell out of here, now things are rolling, now under this covid control situation it is 1000 times harder if we want to leave. I hope everything will go swell and I will make it. Sometimes I feel so embarrassed and ashamed of where I'm from, as well as my ppl and the gov because I know we are just like an outcast to the world, what's even worse is our ppl are hostile to each other which is very rare to see in other ethnicity groups in the whole world, sometimes I just feel so frustrated and confused. lastly I want to say thank you very much for keeping up the good work on your channel, it takes a lot of effort, courage and dedication to reveal the truth, I really appreciate it. Great Wall wake up . Riots do happen in the U. S. and in China . Americans can know and see these things because we have press freedom and citizen activists not afraid to seek out and speak truth and protect one another . Hong Kong people want to keep their own democracy . Mainland Chinese don't know there are riots in China happening all the time because the CCP controls all the news and the police . Chinese people want peace so they don't question anything . They accept displacement and loss of rights and property if not they demonstrate. In America we question everything . We have that right we have citizen demonstrations big and small wherever and whenever. Unlike in China, American police do not routinely beat and drag off demonstrators , beat old women, destroy shops, yank people off their e-bikes, and club people randomly. Some American police have been brutal but there are consequences unlike Chinese brutality because the CCP protects and defends inorder to maintain control. Who profits ? That should be your concern . I visited Beijing, Hong Kong and Tokyo very briefly in 1995-1996 and found them fascinating, like you eastern cultures (particularly Japanese) have always held a magnetic interest for me. I’ve been following political developments in the South China Sea and that part of the Pacific for years now as I’ve held that the next world war will originate from this region. Hearing from someone with your perspective certainly helps clear away some suspicions I’m sure many have held but also dispelled some misconceptions on my part, too. Thanks.

@Soulwalker Young Your taking what I said a bit too literally. I don't mean that I ''completely'' understand a country by watching Serpentza's videos. Rather, they give me some insight to Chinese culture from a ''westerners'' or ''foreigners' point of view. Keep in mind, he's lived in China for about 14 and a half years. That's quite a bit of time for someone living in a foreign country and he has hundreds of videos talking about the culture, customs, foods, places, etc. Personally, I've learned more about China through his videos as compared to my parents who grew up in mainland China. Through his videos, I was able to understand a bit more clearly about the cultural differences between China and the West, and why my parents are the way they are. On a side note, I don't think anybody can fully ''understand'' a country, even if they lived there for their entire lives.

I left Beijing over a year ago. Lived there for 8 years. Let me add this experience to Winston's video to give you guys an even broader picture. 1) In the entirety of my time in China, the police visited my home a grand total of zero times... until Meng Wanzhou was arrested. Then they visited my home to check my documents FIVE times... in one month. They checked my passport, visa, residency permit, and housing contract each time looking for a problem. Did I mention that I'm Canadian? Must be a coincidence. 2) This is the big one. China implemented a new law which enabled the government, at will, to investigate any foreign bank accounts over 5000 RMB (that's less than 1000 USD). They would freeze your assets and ask you for tax documents. If you were unable to provide it then they'd seize your entire bank account. Some people might read this and think "Well, I guess that's fair right? Nations have a right to tax those living in them." Fair enough, and I agree. Here's the problem: You need to go to each and every single one of your previous companies to get those tax documents. Anyone who has worked in China immediately understands the problem. Chinese companies are often unprofessional, vindictive, and corrupt. This means that when you go to your previous company to ask for tax documents, you could be met with: "Well, you quit, so why should we help you?" or "You don't work here anymore so we don't have to give you anything." Not only that, but some Chinese companies claim to be paying taxes on your salary, but are actually just deducting those taxes and pocketing them. Try explaining that to the Chinese government. They don't care. It's the foreigner's fault ALWAYS. Then there's my favorite: Gross incompetence. Some Chinese companies simply have no idea what they're doing, no idea how to get tax forms, no idea how to do tax forms, pretty much no idea about anything. They've just blundered along their entire existence. China is hell. I left China for greener pastures. My new job pays me 70% less than China and I work literally twice as much and I'm 10x happier. Just wrap your mind around that. EDIT: I wanted to add something to this because I always get angry Chinese nationalists saying exactly the same thing to me when they read things like this: "Well, if you hate it so much, then why don't you leave?!" Let me tell you why. Because in my first year in China I adopted two kittens. I wanted to leave one year after that but China had a policy of one passport, one pet. So I wasn't allowed to leave with both cats. There was no way in hell that I'd leave one of my pets behind. Fast forward to a few years later, I got married. We were going to finish our contracts then leave, but we got drunk and accidentally rescued a dog from an abusive pet store. Now we needed three passports. Finally China changed the rule to 1 passport 2 pets. EDIT 2: My wife isn't Chinese.

I'm an American, through and through. I have been to Japan seven times during my life (first trip was military, in 1973), and I feel deep inside that if I had my life to live over again, I'd really focus on learning Japanese and spending more time there. Last trip was with my wife in October 2019, and we loved it. I made sure to take my Chinese-Filipina wife to Hiroshima (where I'd had such a wonderful time on that first trip), and we both loved the city and the welcoming, friendly attitude of all whom we dealt with. The memorials to the atomic bomb were still heart-rending. (As a Navy veteran, I twice had the pleasure and honor of serving on joint military exercises with the Japanese navy and also visited the memorial battleship Mikasa. Great force and wonderful sailors!) The culture and history of your nation is in a class all its own and must always be defended. As soon as the Wuhan virus restrictions are lifted, we're going to make another trip to Japan. Japan is awesome!

i can relate to the part where you slept in hotels or mcdonalds as i too had a similar experience in Japan 3 years ago where i was working at a friend of mine from my country (Romania) and suddenly our relation went cold, we had a fight and i just took my bags and left his home with little to no money in my pocket and for almost a week i had the most intense experiences of my life. i slept in a park, used to leave my luggage which was really heavy and didnt wanna carry around all the time, unnatended in the park while i went like 200 meters to a 7/11 to wash up and use their toilets. i used to eat only food from those 7/11 which was rather cheap but warm, like pasta and rice. one girl paid a night at a hotel. another friend took me out to eat one day. but then, a miracle happened and i've met the most awesome Japanese girl which even spoke perfect english because she had some foreign exchange with a US family abroad. keep in mind the japanese speak usually no english at all so imagine my fortune and surprise when i met her. how i met her, just randomly saw her on the street one day and she immediately caught my eye, just went up to her and after i followed her around a little, i couldnt find her anymore in the crowds, she just vanished. after i went up in a mall to leave my heavy luggage for a day, i went outside and there she was, like she was waiting for me in a twisted kinda fate, we started talking and we immediately clicked, we connected and i ended up in a bus ride with her 30 km outside the city where she lived with her parents. that night i slept in her mother's car. following days, i was introduced to her friends and family and i slept a couple days at her friend's house, they were really nice to me, even bought some food and drinks, then i met her brother and mother and we even went out bowling and golf and i really fell in love with this girl. one little mention, when i met her she told me she was 7th place in a miss contest in her home town. after i left Japan, she became Miss, so she won 1st place. so i can just feel good about all this and about myself to just be so fortunate having met one of the most if not the most awesome girl in town, spending time with her friends and family. and this is how i spent my last week in Japan from sleeping in parks and sometimes using public bathrooms at the supermarkets, to being with amazing people and having tons of special moments.

living in China at first is charming, it's a totally new world, you like exploring it, it feels like it's so huge one lifetime will not be enough, you like people, they seem friendly and welcoming, you like the attention you receive. The food is delicious and there is so much variety ... you think you can live there forever. but just a few years the real China strikes back. although it is huge it has nothing new to suggest, every new place you visit seems just the same as the old ones, it can't offer anything new and exciting anymore, people actually are stupid, can't deal with elementary things and you have to have a lot of patience, their attention becomes abusing, you can't walk around normally, they stare at you shamelessly, in fact, they are not friendly, they are just uncivilized. the more food you taste the less delicious it feels, cause there is no new taste, just the same and same ... winter is freezing till the bones, in the south it's worth, wet cold. and summer is extremely hot, feels like you live in a hot stove. employers demand to work even on weekends, and the Chinese husband is cold like a dead fish and wants everything to be done only his way. today I think it is the worst place to ever visit or live! thank god I left it for good! no foreigner can be truly happy living there!

I remember as a kid someone who had lived in the Soviet Union telling me you could criticise specific little things within society like "my Russian washing machine keeps breaking down, its shit" but you absolutely could not criticise the overall system. So if you said instead "My washing machine keeps breaking down, I think Russian manufactured products are shit" you would get into trouble. China is exactly like that.

  • @draaagooonegggggg

But are you allowed to say in China "This washing machine is shit, why does China keep manufacturing such low equality products. How does the government let this low quality stuff get into the market?" without getting into legal trouble. Talking with my Chinese mom who definitely loves her home country, I would talk about the things in XinJiang with Uighurs, but as I mentioned the CCP being the one to prosecute them, she would get really defensive about things. I feel bad because she has lived her time in China for most of her life before immigrating to the Western world with freedom of expression, speech, religion etc etc. Looks like her past way of life of not criticizing the CCP is still with her and I feel so bad for her.

( Your Chinese ghost city ride came up, I was BLOWN AWAY!) Since then I have learned so much about China, their culture, and for that matter the situation in South Africa as well. Thank you for risking and sharing so much. Your videos are super interesting and professionally done. They have really been informative and enjoyable. I am sorry you had to leave China but perhaps this chapter of your life will be even better. I wish you and your family all the best! Anyway I hope you find what you are looking for here in America, Welcome and stay Awesome!

As a person who relishes learning about cultures and people other than my own, often by submerging myself in them, I in no way feel this threatens my 'culture' or sense of identity.

A lot of the people suck too. I've met plenty of Chinese who think their way of life/culture is better and more important than integrating because that's what the CCP has taught them. They say I should be grateful for them being in my country. Grateful for public indecency and rudeness? Some of them are educated, denounce the CCP and respect western values, but they seem few and far between. If you don't believe me, just look at all the controversies around the world e.g. Chinese students attacking Hong Kong protestors in many countries. They're brainwashed.
