I never been to a competition, do serious competitors enter into a competition with anything under 12s? So is it really practical to produce a spl 8 or is it more of giving the people what they want? Or will they not do a solo X 8 at all and do the new Q class SQL Driver, more practical.

MB if they come out with a solo X 8 you get full credit....period point blank.

I'd rather take the new Q L7 8 with a stronger motor force because of the plastic cone. That solo x 8 will have paper cone and not as rigid as the Q series. That's if it happens 😎

Did 2 12” Q Class L7 and was amazed at how good they sounded and loud they were. Was shocked when they stopped production.

Based on your recommendations I have used the DD 2508 F and G, The kicker Q class 8" I found in mint condition, The Sundown X8v3 and v4, The kicker comp R 8", The B2 Audio Rampage 8" v1 and (V2 pending)....several other sundowns....the DC Audio M3 and M4 and the JL Audio 8W1, 8W3 and 8W7....and all of these have there place under a seat....I designed a box for a 2508G netting 1.25cf with 34" of port area tuned to 33.....customer blew out a 2508G with and 8k DD M8000 and while waiting to get them fixed he threw his G7's in that box for the 2508 and let me tell you that box with those subs is probably the hardest hitting box ive heard yet. DB Drive says 1.4 cubic feet with a 4" port......NO thats a boom box with little articulation....put those G7's in 1.20-1.25 with 16" per cube and let me say those bad Boyz slammmmmmmmmmm. Really debating on buying the "refurbished" q's from hifisound just so i have one! Really want 2 in a big box but one im the metal case wouls be fine too lol wouls the kicker 800watt amp run it fine at 2ohm 600watt rms?

Edit: The following is all unofficial information sourced from Kicker employees during live streams and interviews. For those interested, Kicker had no intention of discontinuing the Q class because it's a great seller. It was forced on them, though. When Covid hit they could not get certain components to make them. Then the manufacturer they had a contract with decided to get out of speaker production (I suspect due to the idling production line costing them money). Anyway, Kicker has been sourcing new components and a new manufacturer to get production going again. They seem to flip flop on whether they will keep the name or retire it. I haven't heard any updates on when it will be back for sale, but I know it won't be anytime soon. I would guess sometime in 2025, but it could be at the end of 2024.

I watch most of their live streams and follow their comments and have picked up all of this information as things that they have actually said. Sometimes the employees let things slip out during live streams. Some of the information is even from Kip himself. I make sure to clearly identify my own opinions. For instance, I have heard nothing about when production will resume so I clearly state that I'm sharing my opinion on when it will resume. This is a logic-based opinion/educated guess. The reason I do this is to help other people understand the situation.

I've collected this information over the last 8 to 10 months. Some of it probably is outdated. It's also possible that the employees that said it may not be fully in the know of what's going on. Anyway, since there's a lack of official information coming out of kicker, I'm trying to keep people informed of what's going on. I'm a little skeptical of you saying that the larger size q-class drivers are still in production. (Is that what your saying? I'm referring specifically to the Q class subs, not the whole L7 range) I've heard numerous sources say that they are not and the larger sizes that are available is leftover stock. Just a few months ago they officially announced that the Q class was discontinued (at least in name). Then more recently they said that it is coming back. It's all a little confusing. Lol I'll update my original post to make it clear that this is unofficial information. Take it with a grain of salt. Lol

Update: Andy just did an interview with John Meyers a couple weeks ago (I'm just now seeing it). John goes into detail about how the manufacturer that was making Q class subs and Q component sets didn't have enough workers during covid so they decided to focus on home audio only. They told Kicker this will be the last order. It caught them off guard. It's at the 59 minute mark.

I believe they went with efficiency rather over spl for example put a 1k to the solo x and your favorite brand and see who wins…. Just a thought.
