Good thoughts and respect for these subs. I had 1 L7 15 in a 73 Cadillac Seville and people heard me before they saw me. They get really loud with lower power. Even owned a set of kicker comp 10 s and they set off car alarms in the parking lot. I purchased a set of sa 10 v2’s and they get low. They both are great subs depending on what you’re trying to achieve with your build and application.

Listening to you talk about subs had me thinking about my first subs back in 1994 I was 15 with two cerwin vega 12s

I got a 08 honda ridgeline and had a pre fab box with 2 10" jl w1v2 on an old school rockford punch 200ix. It did fair. I watched your video and bought a single q class 8 and built a 1 cubic ft box tuned to 34hz. Front firing sub on passenger side and side fire port on driver side. It way outperformed the 2 jl 10's on the same power. Sounded better and hit harder and lower. On the down side, after 1 year of use i lost 1 voice coil. Ive sent it back through my dealer. Been almost 2 months and no word yet. I hope i can get another before there is no more. Love your channel.

Love the Q-class subs, I had one 12" Q-class in a custom box tuned to 33hz and that thing would hit, it flexed the doors, made your ears ring, would almost float a napkin, and played all the way down to 20hz. I would definitely recommend, I can't imagine how one would sound in an MBE box.

You right mbe apex audio had those kickers on their site man I remember when kicker 1st came out with the square solo baric subs man they pounded like hell I had 4 of those L5 series and the bass use to be like a fan blowing air over my head man kicker has been in the game for a very long time and the early 90s era those kickers when guys ran walls in those cars man the bass was different back then it was brutal bass that can be heard a very long distance away

Believe this or not.. when the first kicker L7 12 came out, I bought 2, had 2 huge separate slot port boxes made and stuffed them in the truck of a Geo Prizm on a Mono block kicker amp. I just finally blowed both 2 years ago. And they have been in 4 different vehicles. So 20 something years of service even for the amp has me still a kicker fan! Especially for a daily and occasional show off.

Biggest regret I only bought 1.!!!! Best part it’s 500rms you can get away with 1000rms in most stock systems

Just a reminder, Kicker did not voluntarily discontinue the Q-class. I don't believe it was at its end of life. They were still selling a lot of them. Two things happened, certain parts used in the construction of the Q class became unavailable due to covid and Kicker lost the build house that was making the Q class. So Kicker was forced to find replacement parts as well as a new location to build it. It's a pretty devastating blow to them, but they are working on getting get back into production as soon as possible. They are contemplating changing the name since the Q class amplifiers have been purposely discontinued. I'll let you know if I hear any more updates.

So, one of my co workers had a Solo baric 15" he wanted me to install, it came to me wired to 4 ohm, I wired it to 2 and installed a cheap amp in his Honda hatchback, and it had clear deep bass, too bad they stopped making those because even today they are in their own class with the way they are made

Blew mine (TW3 12s) in 3 months and now run 2 DB drive G5 8 inch subs and extremely happy.

I have an original SL712 Solo Baric (yes I still have it) that I worked all summer for in high school (2002). Man, it hit so hard. An older high school buddy bought a JL W612 in 2001 and when I rolled up in 2002 bumping my new SL712 and when I popped my trunk open, his jaw dropped and shook my hand and said you are now the new king of bump of this high school. My SL712 is now my garage sub. I bough a QL712 in 2017 and love it. But I will say, Sundown Audio gets real low. Much lower than Kicker, but Kicker hits harder. It's kinda like it evens out, one gets lower (SA), but the other hits harder (K).

@gemininimeg- Both of these companies= Kicker, and Sundown, have different models of subwoofers, some hit harder, some play low freq. better. The 2024 Kicker 12" Solo X= plays loud, hits hard, and low freq. very well. Sundown U 12" hits hard, but won't play 20 Hz as well as there 12" X series. Then again the X series will not hit 50 to 60 Hz, as well as a U series. They both have woofers to match different tastes. Its up to the buyer to ask the company what woofer would best match the sound they are trying to achieve. Then make a custom built enclosure, to rec.specs. Then add the proper amount of power, and tune the system= set gain/cross over/subsonic/eq settings. This will give best poss. results.

These companies need to stop with the bigger/more is better and start building more efficient speakers. Don’t matter if they keep pushing more power, more volume. Why not use their great scientific minds to build a 500 watt 8 inch to dominate all.

I wish kicker kept the same cut out for the new solo x subs instead they shorten it but like a inch or 2 😞

I love u MBE but I will never be convinced that Q 8 can outperform and get louder than that X 8. I’ve had them all multiple times. There’s just no way. That kicker cannot take abuse like that Sundown. Not even comparable

Thank you, he is delusional on this one. I sale both brands. Sundown destroys that Q, in fact, we had 6 Q class 15”s in a blazer, wasn’t impressed. Q’s can’t handle the power the X can. That’s a fact.

It depends on the box. If your using a 1 cuft box then you can use a sundown U series 10. Those square subs require more air space because they have more cone area. You can easily see the square sub is physically bigger. So comparing apples to apples your gonna have to compare that sub to a bigger round sub. Should be internal volume used since most everyone is limited to trunk size, hatch size etc. If you have 3 cuft of internal airspace what are you going to use? 2 of these "8s"or 3 10 inch U series subs? Not sure of I there brands that has a 10 that requires 1 cuft ported. Lot are around 1.2 cuft -1.5. Here is an 8 doing 173db in the kick. I think comparing a round 8 inch to a square 8-inch is going to be apples to apples since there are a lot of other factors involved other than just cone area.

I quickly looked up a sub from a different brand and compared the Sd of the 8-inch and the 10-inch version. 188cm² to 363cm². Going from the 8 inch to a 10 inch is doubling the cone area for a 100% increase. Kicker has said numerous times that the square cone shape can give 18% to 22% more cone area or an average increase of 20%. So I don't think we should be comparing a Kicker square 8" to any other companies 10". The difference in cone area is way too big.
