Why I HATE The Word "Resilient"

Ойын-сауық

Soraya Chemaly’s powerful manifesto challenges the common notion that strength and mental fortitude come solely from within. Interdependence and nurturing relationships truly sustain us.

I have also heard people tell me, "You're so strong." I had the same feeling. Like, "You have no idea how exhausted and depleted I feel. I do not feel strong. "

Resilient. Another word our working society has deemed necessary to use when they don't know what else to say to a person who has had their heart shattered by losing their soul mate. People who cannot relate to the shoes you have been walking in just need to shut their pieholes!!! I am definitely not resilient, I gave everything I had to care for my wife during cancer and Caregiving. What little I have left is to try and put pieces of my life back together!!! There is a basic problem with our society and death. People who have not incurred great losses in their lives should probably just not say anything. Resilient my ass. A person has to live it in order to get it!!! Take care Nora, and thank you for your messages ❤🌹

I appreciate your honesty about how you were helped by friends and strangers via social media. I do wish everybody had that advantage or at least the opportunity for that type of assistance. I also don’t feel very resilient at least not yet ? I get up every morning and go to work but it feels like I’m doing it mindlessly ( zombie apocalypse is becoming me ? ) Anyway, I can believe you don’t have a music career and I’m glad you don’t…..you’re doing just fine at your day job. Please don’t stop !

You're doing a great job at a damn hard thing (life). And don't worry, I don't see myself pursuing a music career anytime soon seeing as how I'm still struggling to learn piano!

Loss of a soul mate breaks you. Then it is a process of picking up the pieces and still finding forward motion, somehow.

Somehow, however slowly it happens, we do it. Our hearts are never the same, but they do keep working💔❤❤‍🩹

People use the word as compliment, as though it’s a choice that is made. Resilience isn’t an option.

I hate when people tell me that I’m “strong”. 🤬 I know people mean well, but what’s the opposite with that in the context of losing everything?
