I enjoy the conversational style of your videos. Equilibrium works for me, but there's no effect on pH. You need to add buffers.

Heyoh, I use eggshells in my tank, plus some aragonite spread across the substrate. I just take the shells right after I've cracked them and put them in a tall mason jar. After I finish cooking whatever dish included eggs, I put enough water in the jar to cover the shells, pop it in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes, long enough to boil and cook any residual proteins, and sanitize the outer part. Drain, cool, and drop in the tank. The little bits of egg white and membrane on the inside of the shell is a treat for my endlers and mystery snails. 2 weeks later, and the sagittaria carpet will have swallowed them.

I have soft water like you. I keep my 29 gallon tank. I added 4 small seashells 2 years ago. It was an experiment. The ph went up from 6.5 to 8 and is stable since then. Also I add a small proportion of salt. It works for me.

I like the egg shell idea. Simple and cheap.

The wonder shells are insanely expensive, I have very soft water and quite low ph. I've never heard of eggshells omg thank you so much

Dan, I really appreciate your upfront, open & honest approach in fish keeping. There is much to be said in keeping the hobby simple & enjoyable for sure. Aquariums can sometimes become over-complicated, fairly easily. The eggshells are indeed a great idea & the price is right. I usually save the eggshells for the garden, but will have to save some for my aquariums. I usually add other buffers anyway, so it will be a good experiment for me. Good video. 👍📺😎

2:18 Seachem Equilibrium doesn't change pH! Only GH. You can check the ingredients and there is no carbonate or bicarbonates in the ingredients list. It's just Calcium Sulfate and Magnesium Sulfate, which add Calcium and Magnesium without affecting pH.

I have super soft well water and if I do not add any fertilizer for my plants along with gh booster or Equilibrium then my plants just die. :(

It should add minerals to the water, but I've never taken measurements.

How much of a jump does your ph go up using egg shells ? Also your kh I don’t like using BS because it seems to raise your ph faster then kh

The highest it went in a glass of water was about 7.8, but in my tanks, it usually stay around 7.3 because of the acids being produced in the tank.

Laughing because almost every time I decide I need to start doing and keep track of x or y, I forget to do it the 3rd or 4th time, then I guess dates or amounts and then say to myself well that was quite useless. Only with quarantine or medications have I been able to keep exact data and stay on top of the process 100%, I think because I know it is short term and essential. The rest of it has to be simple or I just won't get it done.

What species is the shark looking fish in the tank behind you? It looks like he has a sucker mouth (I say shark because that's the only way I can describe it)

There's a White suckerfish, a Creek Chub, and Golden shiners that all fit your description. Chub is blunt like a torpedo. Shiners are slender and fast. Suckerfish has downward facing mouth.

Equilibrium has never affected my pH

Simple is best

Saw u using egg shells in your tanks so I started using them for mine. I have good minerals in my water but I am using them for my snails to munch on. Cheap.

I think you do fine with your unscripted monologues but I just can't figure out why you want to "mineralize" tanks with fish that don't do well in hard water.

They need some minerals. My water has nothing but a bit of sodium in it.
