Why I Chose Not To Live Off Grid | Slow Living Anywhere | Slow Days Of Summer In The Countryside

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Living off grid - this is the reason why I chose not to live off grid when I pursued my slow living journey. I don't think slow living is necessarily about living remotely in the middle of nowhere. It can be done from anywhere really, so here are my thoughts on it.
___________
Nectarine hazelnut tart recipe (gluten & dairy free just because I wanted it like that)
Crust:
75g soft vegan butter (or normal butter)
2 tbsp any sweetener (I used maple syrup)
1 egg yolk
100g almond flour
30g rice flour (or oat flour, or white flour)
Mix soft butter with maple syrup and egg yolk, add flour and then refrigerate for 1h.
Hazelnut butter:
250g of roasted hazelnuts, remove as much skin as possible
4 tbsp of sugar
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp of water
Melt sugar and salt with water on the stove, add roasted hazelnuts and mix. Let it cool down on a piece of parchment paper.
Add everything to the blender once cooled and blend well scraping the mixture down, until hazelnuts release oil. It took me about 14 minutes. Make sure your blender is powerful enough for this, as there was a time my blender had blown up (oops).
Hazelnut filling:
3 tbsp of homemade hazelnut butter
1 egg yolk
15g of almond milk (or any other milk)
Mix well
You will also need 3 ripe sweet nectarines cut into slices.
Spread your crust on the round tart tin and bake for 10 minutes at 180 C/ 360 F. Add hazelnut filling and nectarines on top, bake for another 30 minutes.
Let it cool down and then serve chilled :)

I don't want to live off grid. I think it has been romanticized too much but most people have no idea of how much work goes into it & how hard it is. I think slow living has maybe different definitions to different people. Slow living for me means just stopping to pet my cat & enjoying the sound of her purring & thinking of nothing else. Or having a real conversation with my husband without phones in hand or TV on. Focusing on what matters to you in the moment. The tarte looked delicious!! Another just really beautiful thought provoking video. Take care & stay cool sweet girl!! 💖

So true that it has been romanticized too much! While I’m definitely a hopeful romantic, it’s important to understand the nitty gritty reality of things. I love your description of slow living. There’s nothing better than being in the moment and enjoying these little things.😌 Thank you so much for watching and hope you have a wonderful day!💕

It always feels like "slow living" implies moving somewhere remote. But it's good to know it can be done without resorting to that.

I am the same. I live a slow intentional life. No t.v. no computer, I have a low tolerance for noise and bright lights. My refuge is nature and home. Love all you said.

I live in the high desert of the southwest United States. I can really sympathize with the heat you are experiencing. We are in our monsoon season now, so it is quite humid. I lived off grid for about 6 years, in the late 90's. The summers were unforgiving. Some nights it was just too hot to be inside, so we would sit on the roof and watch the sky until we finally had to go in to get some sleep. We had to use a generator to get water from our well, it was noisy and not very peaceful at times. We used oil burning lamps for light and had a propane refrigerator and stove. I would not want to do it again. I do miss the night sky though. The lack of lights made stargazing incredible. In my experience, slow living can be done anywhere. I feel like it is a state of mind.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It was actually so amazing to read. The stars might’ve been something! 😌 But the rest sounds so difficult. Perhaps with popularity of remote/off grid /farm living people don’t realise how difficult and not-so-romantic it actually is. It looks lovely on social media, but what’s shown really are just the stars. The rest can be difficult.

@@IamDaria Yes, it was a very stressful life and not romantic at all. I really didn't realize just how stressful it was until we moved. I was able to take a deep breath and relax, finally! Fortunately, we were able to stay in a rural area on acreage. I love the solitude here, but it is not for everybody. I think we just find try what works for us, maybe through a little trial and error.

It is only me again, spending my Friday night watching and liking other one of your beautiful, deep, meaningful videos. I am unashamedly slightly obsessed at present with all your content. I live in the Irish countryside but know the English countryside so well, through reading many English countryside books and having spent some time in Norfolk. Both the Irish and English countrysides are very similar. Where you now live looks to be pure bliss! You are very classy lady with great taste xx

A truly beautiful and profound video. You are enormously talented, and you are producing work that is making the world a better place. Slow living is finding peace, and that peace must exist within us. Even in the most peaceful place, if our hearts and minds are not at peace, there is no peace. Find peace within you first. And then you have peace wherever you are. Find wealth in learning to be happy with what we have. Peace be with you friend. 💖

I believe slow living is as much a state of mind rather than a specific location, its the choice to step out of the raging current of life and sit on the bank for while and rest the body and mind, everyone finds there solution as you have.

My twin sister and I live with our teen girls in a rural area, and over the years found contentment without being too dependent on technology. Our slow living has become fulfilled now, and this is why I am so appreciative of your thinking, your wished-for way of life, and bravery to go against the norm to follow your heart, while being aware of the challenges that lay ahead. Thank you so much for this vlog. Truly, peace and love from Wendi in the UK. 🌻

Thankyou, you expressed this beautifully, I live in the city, and do live a quiet intentional life. One foot in the matrix, one foot out. I have been judging myself for NOT wanting to live off grid! I like electricity and air conditioning, and although I would like to live in a semi remote location I have not yet grown my business to be able to afford it. Your videos inspire me to keep moving toward creating the life I truly desire.

Thank you for sharing. I live in a somewhat remote area. It's peaceful and quiet but close to what we need. I have no desire to live off grid. I'm not afraid of hard work, as our small house and yard give us plenty to do. But I have enough to do. I do have a stressful job so when the work day is over, I enjoy spending time with my husband doing things we enjoy. And that's when we can slow down and relax and do what we want. Your videos are very beautiful and relaxing to watch and inspirational!

I got into slow living when I retired. It's a little hard to slow down after working your whole life. The only problem is my concept of reality has speeded up. At my age the days fly by. Enjoy the slow life when your young, it won't get any slower as you age.

It's true, any position in life depends on something and some can be more lucky (or dare I say more privileged) than others, however how you perceive your reality is completely up to you. It's easier to have it good when you don't need to worry about certain things but to each person the best and worst things are going to be proportionate to their overall or average experiences. That's why often first heartbreaks can feel like the end of the world when to more experienced people it's going to be along the lines of "meh, you'll be fine", you know, like that cliche teen dramas where the parents look at their teens and can't quite relate to their feelings since they have more experience in life? Odd example I guess and a tad on a tangent but something along those lines. 😆 Beautiful video, thought provoking ideas and hell of a decision to go out in 40C heatwave to film, love the dedication and standards! 😀

I understand what you speak of, but I still want to live as far as possible from big data and big media and pharmacy and this is the only reason for me to do my best effort to move off grid to a small village somewhere . I am far from it, long way ahead but I just want simpler life that are less comfortable. I think that one should find a community flash and blood an only than move off grid, it should not be done alone in the woods.

Similar situations are happening in the US. In the 1980's, everyone wanted to move to the "Big City", wear a suit and tie, while working for a Fortune 500 company in a 80 story hi-rise building. That was the dream of many. Rural areas emptied out as more and more people wanted the wealthy lifestyle that Corporate America promised them. Some forty years later and people have gotten tired of the rat race, office politics and the constant hustle and bustle of the big city. Congestion, lack of peace and quiet, as well as increasing crime have people wanting to escape to the rural areas and enjoy a slower, less stressful lifestyle. This has caused the price of land and rent to dramatically increase the last ten years or so, and now the once peaceful and idyllic countryside is slowly turning into the cities that people have attempted to leave behind.
