Why I changed from Santos to idworx - DUTCH TREKKING BIKES REVIEW - 'My' idworx oPinion BLT

A lot of viewers have been asking me: why did you change from Santos to idworx? I have been cycling on a Santos Travel Lite+ for a while, but changed to an idworx oPinion BLT. (Both with a Pinion gear system.) Why? In this video I give you some explanation, as honest as I can be. :)

Hi Jessica, thank you for another very interesting video. The history of Dutch bike companies and design was very good. Out very own Scot cycle adventurer Mark Beaumont has been an advocate of these bikes for years. Out of interest, are the frames for the idworx cycles made in Germany, or are they far-east built like most bike frames these days? Being a Brit living in a country where cycling is so 'sport' driven, your new bike does not look so sporty, but it does look purposeful. I love it. You say you are Pettit, what height are you? I only ask because I am short 162cm so am always on the lookout for bikes that suit my height, that reference would give me a clue about the relative geometry. Vrolijk Kerstfeest! Cheers, Tim.

Hi Tim, great you liked the video! The idworx bikes get assembled in Germany, but I am not sure where the frame are made. There are also some Dutch frame builders based in the east. I will be visiting their workshop pretty soon, so will ask your question when I am there! I am 158 cm, which is short for a Dutch person. :)

Very nice bike. My neighbour asked me for help fixing some chain tensioning, and i liked how little effort is needed to maintain. Its basically breaks and chain only. Gearbox is hidden under the crank like a small motor enginr.

My wife always gets a little sensitive about my getting a new bike. It's not the money, it's more like she takes the idea of trading in the old model for a newer one personally. You didn't feel like you were abandoning your old friend? I really enjoy the energy and humor you bring to your presentations.

I’m still looking for a touring but like you I have some issues to take into account, i.e. a less than perfect spine. I’m afraid that a sporty position like on your Idworx might not work for me. On the other 🤚 a very unsporty position has its own downsides. Anyways I’m currently mainly interested in the Fyts (also Gaastra) but of course the only right thing to do now is to go to one of the renowned travelbike retailers that have a bike fitting frame. Thanks for your upload anyhow, always fun to watch and informative 👍👍

Thanks! Did you already pick a bike? I really love my bike, but am thinking of getting handlebars which allow a few more different positions, such as the Jones Bars, that is probably the best when dealing with neck or back problems. Most important thing is to relax my muscles more though…

Prachtige fiets, duidelijk verhaal.

Hi Jessica, thank you for your interesting review. I own an oPinon BLT and can agree with nearly all of your statements. But: It might be that USB-C is the most modern USB connection. But according to my experince it's not robust enough for using it on a bike. Because of the vibrations I very often get a power interruption. This is especially annoying in combination with Garmin devices beause these devices show a message on the screen in case of a power interruption which must be manually confirmed (otherwise the device switches off.) Is the anybody who knows a solution to this problem?

@@carbon12atom Hello Bogdan, thank you for your hint. In my case the problem is clearly the play between the USB-C connector of plug5 and the plug of my cable. Even if I cautiously press the plug of the cable a bit together with my pliers there is no reliable connection. But maybe I will have antother try and buy me a better cable.

  • @Fietsvlogger

Ha yes I used pretty bad cables before, which I didn’t take out during heavy rain. 🙈 That happened with the Forumslader. So many times it wouldn’t charge, and mostly it was the cable… Ulrich: I definitely would try to use a better cable. If that doesn’t work maybe reach out to the makers? Maybe there is a problem somewhere inside the plug.

@@Fietsvlogger Hello Fietsvlogger, thanks for the replay (and sorry for my delay). I've tried several cables but more or less with the same result. I've even tried to squeeze the connector of the cable (cautiously) together with a pair of pliers without real improvement. If there is anybody out there who knows which brand/type of cable works fine I would be grateful for that information.

Hi Jessica, A little technical note. I see that you are inserting the front wheel thru-axle incorrectly(@ 2:42). You have to insert this on the right side, not the left side. Just compare it with the thru-axle of the rear wheel. I also made this mistake and noticed that the black cap nut had very little thread to turn on. If you insert the thru-axle of the front wheel from the right, the cap nut on the left side has more space to turn on it. This is because the hole of the front fork on the left side is made conical. On the right side it is flat. At least that's the case with my oPinion BLT. Enjoy your bike!
